NINETY-NINE: The Exciting Adding Card Game

Hey there! Have you ever heard of Ninety-Nine? It’s a super fun card game that you can play with your friends. The best part is, it’s really easy to learn!

Let’s Get Started: Setup

First things first, we need to get everything set up. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Shuffle the deck of cards.
  2. Deal 3 cards to each player.
  3. Put the rest of the cards in a pile in the center of the play area. This is called the stockpile.
  4. Make sure there’s space next to the stockpile for a discard pile.

You also need to give each player 5 chips or pennies. If you’re playing with 4 or more players, each player gets 3 chips instead.

Got it? Great! Now, let’s move on to the next step.

How to Play

The goal of the game is simple: avoid making the discard pile add up to more than 99. If it does, you lose!

Each player takes turns playing a card from their hand and then draws a new one from the stockpile. The card you play determines how much you add to the discard pile.

Here’s what each card does:

  • Ace: Adds 1 to the discard pile.
  • Two: Adds 2 to the discard pile.
  • Three: Adds 3 to the discard pile.
  • Four: Subtracts 4 from the discard pile.
  • Five: Skips the player’s turn (does not add or subtract anything).

Now, here’s the tricky part: if you play a card that would make the discard pile exceed 99, you have to subtract the total from 99 instead. It’s all about careful calculation!

The game continues until one player runs out of cards or the discard pile reaches 99. If the discard pile reaches 99, the player who played the last card loses.

Winning the Game

The player who did not cause the discard pile to exceed 99 is the winner! Congratulations!

You can play as many rounds as you like. Just remember, the dealer passes to the left at the start of each new round.

Give it a Try!

Ninety-Nine is a thrilling and addictive game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. So grab your friends, shuffle those cards, and let the fun begin!

I hope you enjoy playing Ninety-Nine as much as I do. Trust me, it’s a blast!

When playing this game, I have the option to choose whether an Ace has a value of 1 or 11. The Four cards have a special ability to change the direction of play, but the value of the discard pile doesn’t change. Nines, on the other hand, are worth nothing – zero. Now Tens, they can either increase or decrease the value of the discard pile by 10. Queens and Jacks each have a value of 10. And then we have Kings, which set the value of the discard pile to 99. As for the remaining cards – Twos, Threes, Fives, Sixes, Sevens, and Nines – they all increase the value of the discard pile by their respective numeric value.

Let’s Play!

The gameplay is really straightforward. It all begins with the player sitting to the left of the dealer, and from there, we go around the table in a clockwise direction. When it’s my turn, I pick one card from my hand – the one I want to get rid of – and I place it on the discard pile. But wait! That’s not all. After I discard the card, I make sure to say out loud what the new value of the discard pile is. And then, to keep the game going, I draw a new card from the stockpile and add it to my hand.

When we start playing the game, the discard pile is empty and has a value of 0 points. As we play cards and add them to the discard pile, the pile’s value will change. But be careful! If the value of the discard pile ever reaches 99 points, you will lose a chip. We collect all the cards from the discard pile and start a new round.

If you run out of chips to discard, you will be eliminated from the game. So make sure you manage your chips wisely!

But what happens if we run out of cards in the stockpile? We keep the top card and shuffle the remaining cards to form a new stockpile. Don’t worry, the value of the discard pile will still be the same.

The End of the Game

The game comes to an end when there’s only one player left who hasn’t been eliminated. And that player is the winner!
