Welcome to the Nightmare
I’m thrilled to introduce you to Nightmare, an exciting, heart-pounding board game with a horror theme. It’s designed for 2 to 6 players, and the goal is simple: you must gather all your keys and escape from your nightmare before time runs out!
Setting Up the Game
Now, let’s get everything in place so we can begin the adventure! Take a seat where you can see the game screen clearly. Separate and shuffle the time, chance, and fate cards. As for the keys, make sure to shuffle them as well and keep them separated by color. Don’t forget to keep the coin and die nearby for easy access during the game.
Before we dive into the game, each player has a secret card where they can write down their worst fear. Take a moment to jot down yours and put the card in the nightmare bag, which should be placed near the board.
Now, it’s time to choose your character! Each player should pick a character and let fate decide their number token. Make sure there’s a token for each player, and then place your character on your gravestone on the board.
Alright, get ready to play! Once you press the play button, the game begins.
The Game Begins!
The Gatekeeper is in charge of running the game. At the start of the tape, he’ll explain most of the rules to us. Remember, the game lasts for a maximum of one hour. If nobody has won by then, we all lose and the Gatekeeper is victorious!
Whenever the Gatekeeper appears on the screen, we can’t move our game pieces. And if he calls out our player number or any other identification, we must instantly respond with “yes, my gatekeeper!”
The objective of the game is to collect all six keys of your color. You can accomplish this in a couple of ways. Sometimes, the Gatekeeper will give you special cards that will help you collect your keys. Other times, you’ll need to land on specific spaces on the board. Once you’ve collected all your keys, you’re not allowed to go down the middle path, known as the nightmare path. To get on the nightmare space, you need to roll the dice and be exact in your roll.
Imagine this: you’ve entered the nightmare space, and now it’s time to face your fears. Your heart races as you draw a card, hoping it doesn’t reveal your worst nightmare. If it does, you lose. But if it doesn’t, you can breathe a sigh of relief and stop the tape. Just remember, you must do this before the hour is up if you want to claim victory.
The Element of Time
In this game, time is of the essence. Each time card you draw has a specific time stamp printed on it, along with instructions on what you need to do at that exact moment. Successfully completing these tasks often grants you an advantage, giving you an edge over your opponents.
Embracing Chance
When it comes to chance cards, anything can happen. Some of these cards require you to flip a coin to determine an outcome, while others depend on your particular identity or assigned number. And then there are those that have half of a key printed on them. Regardless of the nature of the card, all of them offer the potential to reward you with keys or other beneficial advantages.
The Power of Fate
Fate cards are an intriguing mix. They often revolve around scenarios where opponents land on your gravestone, and they can also help you escape from treacherous black holes and similar perils. You never know when a fate card might come in handy, so keep an eye out for these. They could very well turn the tide in your favor.
THE END OF THE GAME
The game comes to a close when either the time runs out, and the gatekeeper emerges victorious, or when a player successfully completes the challenge and triumphs over the game.
