Mysterium – learn to play with

Welcome to the World of Mysterium

In the game of Mysterium, there are two types of players: the psychics and the ghost. The psychics are trying to solve a murder, while the ghost is helping them. The ghost uses strange visions to guide the psychics towards the correct suspects, locations, and murder weapons. The goal is for all players to work together and guess the correct solution before time runs out.

Getting Started

Phase one: Setting up

First, a player is chosen to be the ghost and they will be in charge of most of the setup. The other players each receive a character sleeve, a marker, a clairvoyance marker, and a number of clairvoyance tokens (the exact amount is determined by the number of players, as stated in the rules).

Hey there! So, while the ghost gets everything ready, I’ll explain how to play the game. First, the ghost will set down all the boards, just like you see in the picture. They’ll shuffle all the separate decks and deal out the cards, following the directions. The psychic cards go to the players, and then the ghost secretly assigns the matching ghost cards on their game screen. The vision cards get shuffled and put next to the ghost. Oh, and the ghost gets some crow tokens based on how hard you want the game to be. Once we’re done with phase 1, we can start setting up for phase 2. Simple, right? Let’s have some spooky fun!

Let’s move on to phase two!

Once everyone has figured out their character, location, and object, it’s time to start the second phase of the game. Here’s what you need to do:

First, remove any cards that haven’t been used, as well as the location, character, and object progress markers. Then, the ghost will place the ghost tokens on the table. Each player will need to associate their solutions with one of the ghost markers. The ghost will then secretly choose which solution is correct and take the corresponding culprit marker, placing it facedown on the epilogue progress marker.

And that’s it! You’re now ready to start playing phase two of the game.

GAMEPLAY

The Game Begins…

Alright, folks, let’s dive into the exciting world of gameplay! Trust me, you’re in for a wild ride. So, here’s the lowdown on how it all goes down.

Phase One: Ready, Set, Go!

First things first, we’ve got to get the game started. In this initial phase, it’s all about setting the stage for what’s to come. We lay the groundwork, preparing ourselves for the adventure that awaits.

Now, pay close attention, because this is where things start to get real. It’s time to make some decisions that will shape the course of the game. What kind of character will you be? What skills and abilities will you possess? The possibilities are endless, my friend.

You see, this is a crucial moment. The choices you make here will determine how you navigate the challenges that lie ahead. So take your time, think it through, and choose wisely. Remember, this is your chance to create a character that embodies your unique style and personality.

Once you’ve made your choices, it’s time to embark on your epic journey. The game world opens up before you, stretching out in all its vastness. It’s a sight to behold, let me tell you.

As you traverse the world, you’ll encounter all sorts of quests, challenges, and puzzles. Some will test your strength, others your cunning, and a few might even tug at your heartstrings. Each one brings its own set of rewards and opportunities for growth.

Phase Two: The Plot Thickens

As you progress through the game, the story starts to unfold. You uncover the mysteries that lurk in the shadows, delve into the secrets of the past, and forge alliances with intriguing characters you meet along the way.

Get ready for some plot twists, my friend. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, a twist comes out of nowhere and leaves you gasping for air. It’s like a rollercoaster of emotions, and you’re right in the driver’s seat.

Phase Three: Bring It On

The final phase is where things really heat up. You’ve grown stronger, wiser, and more skilled. You’re ready to face the ultimate challenge and claim victory. It’s do-or-die time, my friend.

The final battle awaits, a test of your courage, determination, and strategy. Every decision you’ve made, every choice you’ve pondered, has led to this very moment. You’ve come a long way, and now it’s time to show the world what you’re made of.

The Epilogue

And just like that, the game comes to an end. You’ve conquered your fears, overcome obstacles, and emerged victorious. It’s a moment of triumph, and you bask in the glory of your achievement.

But remember, my friend, every ending is also a new beginning. The adventure may be over, but the memories and lessons learned will stay with you forever. So take a moment to savor your victory, and then, when you’re ready, embark on yet another thrilling journey.

Remember, it’s not just a game – it’s an experience that transports you to a world of endless possibilities. So grab that controller, or click that mouse, and let the games begin!

Once I’ve set up the game, I’ll draw the top 7 cards from the vision deck. After that, you and the other players will place your character markers on the character progress marker. And with that, the game begins!

Now, here’s how it works. As the ghost, I’ll take a look at my vision cards and try to find ones that hint at one of the character cards in your solution. I can give you multiple cards or just one, but I have to give you all the cards at once. Once you have the cards, you won’t get any more clue cards this round.

Once I’ve handed out the cards, I’ll refill my hand to seven cards and keep doing this until all players have their vision cards. And once the last player has their cards, the timer starts! You and the other players have a minute to work together and decipher your clues. Your goal is to choose a character to accuse by placing your character marker on it.

Remember, time is of the essence, so work quickly and communicate with your teammates. Good luck!

After a minute, when everyone has picked their characters, I’ll go through each player one by one and tell them if they got it right or not. If they’re right, they move their character’s progress marker forward and keep the character card in their sleeve. They give back all their vision cards to me. If they’re wrong, they stay where they are and go back to the character progress marker. They know that the character they chose is not in their solution and keep their vision cards for the next round.

This is how the game will go on. I’ll keep giving you visions, and you’ll use the clues to make your choices. Once everyone has passed the object progress markers and has their complete individual solutions, we can move on to Phase two.

Welcome to the world of Clairvoyance Tokens and Tracker!

So, here’s the deal: the clairvoyance tokens let you have a say in other players’ guesses. When you think someone’s got it right, give them a checkmark. If you think they’re wrong, use an X. It’s like voting, but for guessing! And hey, if you get it right, you’ll move up on the Clairvoyance tracker. That means more points for you!

Speaking of the tracker, everyone starts at zero. But the further you move up, the more cards you’ll see when it’s time to guess the final solution. Plus, being higher up can also give you the power to break ties. Pretty cool, huh?

Now, the tokens are a limited resource. Once you use them to vote, they go on the clock board. But don’t worry – they’ll refresh when the clock strikes 4. So you’ll get all your used tokens back, ready to use again.

Ravens

Hey there! Did you know that spirits have a special trick up their sleeve? They can use a raven to completely change their hand of vision cards! It’s like having a fresh start whenever they want. But here’s the catch: once a raven is used, it can’t be used again for the rest of the game. So, spirits need to be strategic about when they unleash their feathered friends.

Clock Board

Tick tock, time is running out! The clock board is like a timekeeper in the game. You have until the clock strikes 7 to finish phase one. Easy, right? But wait, there’s more. After every round, the clock moves forward. If you don’t finish phase one by the end of the 7th round, it’s game over for everyone. So keep an eye on that clock!

Phase Two

When we all have our solutions and Phase Two ready to go, I’ll use my hand of cards to choose which solution I’ll give you hints about. I only get three cards to help you out. I’ll use one card to show you the character, one card to show you the location, and one card to show you the object.

So, here’s the deal. We start off by choosing these cards, right? Then the ghost shuffles ’em up and shows each of us our own set of cards. We can’t talk to each other about the clues we get – it’s all hush-hush. Once we’ve all seen our clues, we take as much time as we need to figure out the right solution. Then, we get our clairvoyance tokens back and secretly vote for which solution we think is correct. We all reveal our guesses at the same time, and the solution with the most votes is what we go with. If there’s a tie, the player with the highest clairvoyance involved in the tie is the tiebreaker.

Now, here’s the tricky part. The ghost finally shows the culprit token, and if that matches our guess, we’ve won!

The Game is Over

Hey there! It’s time to wrap up the game. There are a couple of ways the game can end, so let me explain.

First, the game ends if time runs out without all players finishing their solutions. It can also end if phase two is completed and the players haven’t figured out the correct solution yet.

Unfortunately, the game is lost if either all players didn’t complete phase one or if the majority of them couldn’t guess the correct solution for phase two. It’s a tough outcome, but it happens. Don’t worry, though, there’s always the next game!

On the bright side, if at the end of phase two, most of the players voted for the correct solution, then congratulations! You’ve won the game. Give yourselves a pat on the back.
