Magarac – learn to play with

Get Ready to Play Magarac!

Hey there, I’m here to tell you all about a super fun card game called Magarac, also known as Jackass. It’s a game that you can play with anywhere from 3 to 13 players. The whole point of the game is to make sure you’re not the loser when the game ends, because nobody wants to be punished!

Let’s Set Up the Game

Getting started is easy. Depending on how many players you have, you’ll need a special deck of cards. You want to make sure there are enough cards for everyone playing. For example, if you have 3 players, you can use all the Aces, Kings, and Queens from a regular deck of cards. If you have 13 players, you’ll need all 52 cards in a deck.

Now, to decide who gets to be the dealer, everyone can pick a card from the deck. The person with the highest card gets to shuffle the deck and deal 4 cards face-down to each player. And off we go!

Time to Play

Alright, now that we’re all set up, let’s get into the gameplay. Here’s how it works:

Let me break it down for you. The game kicks off with the person sitting left of the dealer. They pick a card from their hand and pass it to the left. The next person checks their hand to see if they have a set of four cards that match, and if they do, they can pass any card to their left. This keeps going around the table until someone gets a set of four cards. When that happens, they slam their hands on the table and shout “Magarac”. The other players, when they see what’s going on, have to do the same thing – slam their hands on the table and shout “Magarac”. The last one to do so loses the round.

SCORING

Now let’s talk about scoring. The player who loses the round gets a mark against them. They’re trying to spell out the word “Magarac”, and each loss adds another letter to their score.

END OF GAME

When you play the game, it’s all about spelling out a word. The game comes to an end when a player finishes spelling the whole word. That player is considered the loser and the group doesn’t hold back in ridiculing them. In fact, there may even be special punishments in place that all players have agreed upon before the game begins.

A SPECIAL TWIST

Now, let me tell you about a special version of the game called the traveling card. It adds an extra element of excitement! During the game setup, a single card is added to the deck that doesn’t belong to any of the suits used in the game. If you’re playing with a full deck, you’ll need a joker to be the traveling card. When the deal happens, everything starts normally, but there’s a twist. The player to the dealer’s left gets an extra card in their hand – it’s the 5th one!

Once the players have received their hands, everyone takes a peek at their cards. And here’s the catch – if someone has the traveling card, they have to reveal it to everyone else. But don’t worry, after showing it off, the traveling card goes right back into their hand, and they have to secretly shuffle all their cards. It adds a layer of mystery and anticipation to the game – you never know who might have that tricky traveling card!

In this game type, a few rules change. Now, when I get a card, I’ll have 5 cards in my hand before passing. When I pass a card to someone, they can choose to refuse the first card without seeing it. Then, I have to pick another card to pass to that person, and they can’t refuse it.

If I have four cards of the same kind and the traveling card, I can’t call Magarac unless I can successfully pass the traveling card. If I can do that, then I can declare Magarac.
