Welcome to Lords of Vegas!
In this game, you become a casino owner in the dazzling city of Las Vegas. Your ultimate goal is to acquire land, construct extravagant casinos, and expand your empire, all in pursuit of becoming the most successful casino owner in Vegas.
Getting Started
To begin playing Lords of Vegas, select a color to represent your player. You will receive colored dice, a score chip, and player markers. Place your score chip on the 0 mark of the score tracker. A banker will be chosen to oversee the game.
The banker’s first task is to remove the end of the game card from the deck. Next, they should shuffle the remaining cards and deal each player two cards.
These cards are then revealed and will determine your starting cash and properties. The properties associated with the cards will be indicated using your markers, and the total sum of the card values determines your starting cash.
So, here’s what happens: the cards are put in their respective sections on the board and the deck is divided into four even piles. Then, the end of the game card goes on top of one pile, and the other piles are stacked on it. And that’s it! Now we can start playing.
How to Play
We play Lords of Vegas in turns until we reveal the end of the game card. Each turn consists of two steps: the draw step and the play step. Don’t worry, there are smaller actions within these steps that we’ll get to. But let’s cover the basics first.
A “lot” is a space that doesn’t have anyone’s marker on it. It’s basically unclaimed. Now, once you draw a card corresponding to a lot, it becomes yours. You mark it with your marker, and now it’s officially yours!
If you own a lot, you can pay to add a casino tile to it. When you do this, your marker is replaced with a die. The die belongs to you and stays in the casino tile you added.
If two or more casino tiles of the same color touch each other, they form a casino. Multiple players can have dice in a casino, but the boss of the casino is the player with the highest number on their die. If there is a tie, the players will reroll until there is a clear boss.
Getting Started
Every turn starts the same way: a player draws the top card from the draw pile. This triggers a series of events. First, the player places their marker on the corresponding lot.
After that, each player gets paid for their owned lots. This means that each player receives 1 million dollars for each lot that has one of their player markers on it (casinos and dice are not counted).
So here’s how it works: when a card is drawn, the casinos that match the color of the card will pay out. This means that any casino with that color, even if it’s just one tile, will give money to each player who has a dice of their color in it. You’ll get paid based on the total number of pips you have in each casino of that color. But there’s also something called strip cards. Instead of matching the color of a casino, these cards pay out any casino that’s touching the strip, which is the road that runs through the center of the board. They’ll pay out in the same way as the other cards.
When we play, each casino that matches the color or strip of the card I pull gets points. We score one tile at a time, so if I am in charge of two casinos, one worth one point and the other worth two points, I don’t score three points. Instead, I score one point first, and then two points. This is important because moving up on the score track becomes more difficult as we go higher. Whenever we score points, our score marker moves up accordingly.
After taking care of all these steps, we can discard the drawn card into the appropriate pile.
Now let’s talk about playing the game.
Once you throw away your card, you’re all set to take your turn and do stuff. There are 5 things you can do on your turn, as many times as you want, as long as you follow the rules (the only thing you can only do once is gamble). These things include:
Build
You can do the build thing as many times as you want in your turn, as long as you have the lots, money, dice, and casino tiles for it. To build, you pay the price on your lot. Then you can choose any of the remaining casino tiles and put it on your lot, replacing your marker with a dice that has the same face as the one on the lot.
Sprawl
When it’s your turn, you can spread out as much as you want, as long as you have enough money, own a casino, and follow the rules. Spreading out means buying a new lot adjacent to a casino tile you already own. The new lot must not be owned by another player. To spread out, you need to pay double the price of the lot you want to buy. Once you’ve paid, you place a casino tile of the same color as your existing tile on the new lot. You also place one of your dice on the lot to match the dice shown on the tile. But watch out – if another player draws the lot you just bought, they automatically take it over. They remove your dice and replace it with their own, matching the illustrated dice on the tile.
Remodel
If you’re the boss of the casino being remodeled, you have the freedom to remodel it as many times as you want, as long as you have the money. Remodeling your casino involves paying 5 million for each tile in the casino and then exchanging all the tiles of one color for another. Just remember, if you can’t change all the tiles in the casino, you can’t remodel it to that color.
Now, let’s talk about reorganizing. You’re allowed to reorganize as many times as you like during your turn, but you can’t reorganize the same casino twice in a turn. Before you can reorganize, you need to have the required amount of money and own at least one casino tile. When you decide to reorganize, you’ll need to pay 1 million for each pip on each die in the casino. After that, all the dice will be rolled again and replaced. The die with the highest pip will determine the new boss of the casino.
Lastly, let’s discuss gambling. This is an exciting aspect of running a casino. Before you start gambling, you need to ensure you have the necessary funds. After that, it’s all about taking risks and hoping for the best outcome. Gambling can bring both joy and disappointment, but it’s a thrilling experience nonetheless.
When it’s my turn, I get one chance to gamble. To gamble, I have to choose a casino to go to. The casino boss is the person in charge. I can only bet the amount of money I have right now. I can bet up to 5 million dollars for each tile in the casino, but I can’t bet more than the casino can pay me. The casino boss can decide to pay the full amount if I win, or they can split the payment with the bank. If they split it with the bank, the casino boss only has to pay me half of my winnings, and the bank pays the rest. But if I lose, the casino boss only gets half of my bet, and the bank gets the rest.
So, here’s how it works: first, you need to figure out how much you want to bet. Once you’ve got that all sorted out, it’s time to roll the dice – but don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it sounds!
When you roll the dice, you want the total number to match one of the numbers on the house card. If you get lucky and roll a 2 or a 12, you’ll win double the amount you bet. But if you roll any other number, you’ll need to pay the house the amount you bet.
Once you’ve made your move and you’re happy with your turn, it’s time for the next player to draw their card. And the game continues like that, with each player taking their turn and hoping for the best.
Now, let’s talk about the rules for a two-player game:
In a two-player game, the “F” cards are off the table. If you happen to draw one of these cards, you can just discard it and draw another one. These “F” lots don’t really count – you can’t build on them or put your markers there. So, you’ll keep playing, following the same steps, until you draw a card that’s not an “F” card. Then, you can carry on with your turn.
And that’s how the game ends!
Let me explain how the game works. When someone reveals the final “End of Game” strip card, that’s when the game ends. Your goal is to score points by building and managing your casinos on the strip, just like with strip cards in the past. Once everyone is done, we’ll tally up the final scores, and the player with the highest score wins. It’s that simple!
Oh, and there’s another way to win. If you manage to get over 90 points, you can also win the game. But honestly, I’ve never seen anyone achieve that! It’s quite a remarkable feat.
