Hey there! Let me tell you about a cool game called Kop, also known as Baska. It’s a fun and fast trick-taking game that you can play with just 16 cards from a regular deck. And guess what? You don’t need a big fancy table to play it! You can even play it while waiting in line!

Now, let’s talk about the cards and how to deal them. In Kop, we use a special set of 16 cards. The game is usually played for just one round, but with the rules I’m about to explain, you can have a whole bunch of rounds.

THE CARDS & THE DEAL

Let me tell you about a unique card game called Kop. It’s different from most American card games because it only uses a small deck of 16 cards. You’ll only need 10s, Jacks, Queens, and Aces.

The way the cards are ranked may seem unusual if you’re used to American card games, but if you’re familiar with German A-10 games, you’ll find Kop’s rank structure more familiar.

In Kop, the trump suit is made up of specific cards: 10♦, A♦, J♦, J♥, J♠, J♣, Q♦, Q♥, Q♠, Q♣, 10♥, and A♥. The Ace and 10 of both Clubs and Spades are always non-trump cards.

Before starting the game, you need to determine the dealer. The dealer will then distribute 4 cards to each player. Additionally, each player should receive 5 Victory Cards. These Victory Cards can be any card from the deck or tokens.

Now, let’s talk about determining partnerships in Kop.

When it comes to the game, the players who have the black queen cards are automatically partners. If one player has both black Queens, they have a choice: they can ask the player with the highest Jack to be their partner, they can keep it a secret, or they can declare solo.

At the beginning of the game, nobody knows who is partnering with whom. The players shouldn’t openly announce their partnerships; instead, the non-partner players have to figure it out on their own. If a player declares solo, the other three players know that they are working together to defeat the solo player.

HOW TO PLAY

The game starts with the player to the left of the dealer playing any card they want. This game has some special rules: you must follow the suit that is led, you must play a trump card if you have one, and you must try to win the hand. In this game, all the trump cards are considered to be the same suit, so you don’t have to pay attention to the symbols on the cards.

If you can’t play a card of the same suit, you have to use a trump card. And if you can win the trick with the cards you have, you should. The player with the highest card gets the trick and gets to start the next one.

We keep playing until we’ve finished all 4 tricks.

SCORES

We get points for the cards we capture. When we’re on a team, we add up our points. If you’re playing solo, you only get points for the cards you capture. To win the round, you need to get at least 53 points.

Aces are worth 11 points.

Queens are worth 3 points.

Jacks are worth 2 points.

If we’re playing in teams, everyone on the winning team gets one Victory Card from each player on the losing team.

If someone goes solo and wins, they get 2 Victory Cards from each opponent. But if they lose, they have to give 2 Victory Cards to each opponent.

Hey there! Let me break down what happens when a player runs out of Victory Cards in the game.

Winning the Game

So, here’s the deal: when the game is over, the player with the most Victory Cards is crowned the winner. Simple as that! In case of a tie, we don’t pick sides – ties remain unbroken.
