Gather your friends because King’s Pot is perfect for a group of 3 to 22 players. It’s a thrilling game that only requires a standard deck of 52 cards.
Before we dive in, let’s go over the ranks of the cards. They go in this order: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2.
King’s Pot is a popular casino game that is enjoyed by adults who love a good card game challenge.
Get Ready, Here’s How to Play King’s Pot
Are you ready for some excitement? King’s Pot accommodates a minimum of 3 players and can be played with up to 22 players. All you need is a standard deck of 52 cards.
In this game, Aces hold high value. However, keep in mind that in a straight, Aces can also be considered low.
When you play this game, the dealer sets up the cards in a special arrangement called a 5×5 grid. There are 25 cards in total. From this grid, you can create 12 different poker hands. These hands are made from the rows, columns, and diagonals of the grid.
Let’s take a closer look at how the grid is organized. The top row is called the “Ace’s hand.” Then, we have the “two’s hand,” and it continues like that until the “fives hand.” The first column is the “six’s hand,” and the hands continue until the “ten’s hand.”
There are also two special hands formed by the diagonals of the grid. One is called the “Jack’s hand,” which goes from the northwest corner to the southeast corner. The other is the “Queen’s hand,” which goes from the southwest corner to the northeast corner.
Finally, we have the “King’s hand.” This is a separate pile of 5 cards that doesn’t belong to any row, column, or diagonal.
Take a look at the image below to see an example of the tableau.
If you want, you can mark these hands with the appropriate cards from another deck. But that’s up to you, and you can do it only after you finish setting up the tableau.
LET’S PLAY
Once the tableau is finished, the dealer has 22 cards left. Since each player only needs one card, there can be a maximum of 22 players in the game. The number of cards that each player can have or buy depends on the number of players.
3 Players: You can buy up to 7 cards.
4 Players: You can buy up to 5 cards.
6-7 Players: You can buy up to 3 cards.
8-11 Players: You can buy up to 2 cards.
11-22 Players: You can buy only 1 card.
When we play the card game called Ante, we each put a bet in the King’s pot. This bet is called an ante, and it’s a special rule that we all agree on at the beginning. The amount of the bet depends on how many players there are.
Once we’ve all put in our bets, we get our cards. The number of cards we get is the same as the number of bets we made. These cards are like our team, and we have to decide which hand to bet on.
Now, it’s time to flip over some cards and see what we’ve got. We flip over the five cards labeled “1” in the middle of the table. Each card represents one of our hands, except for the King’s hand. Then, we start the round of betting. We bet, raise, and call, just like in regular poker. We put the money in a separate pot, not the King’s pot. The amount we bet has to match the number of cards we have in our hand. If we want, we can choose to fold some or all of our cards.
Next, we flip over the cards labeled “2”. These cards can be any cards from Ace to Queen. We have another round of betting. We keep going until all the cards are flipped over and there are no more bets.
Now, I’m going to flip over the cards with a “3” and show you what’s underneath. Can you guess how many cards there’ll be?
SHOWDOWN
Once everyone’s done betting, it’s time for the big showdown. We’re going to reveal all the cards in my hand and on the table. And don’t forget, everyone else has to show their cards too. The person with the best hand wins the game. But here’s the catch – the winning hand might not be the one on the table. It could be a combination of cards from someone’s hand and the table. If two people have the same winning hand, they have to split the prize.
If my hand is the winner, then I get both pots. But if not, the King’s pot keeps growing until someone has a real chance of winning it.
