Getting Started
So, let’s get this game started! First things first, we need to choose our colors. Each player will pick a color to represent them throughout the game. Once we’ve made our choice, we’ll take the palace of our chosen color and place it in front of us, facing up. This is our palace, our little kingdom.
Now, let’s set up our palace with some cards. We’ll need the one thousand ducat card, six thousand ducat card, ten thousand ducat card, and the three thousand ducat card. We’ll place them to the left of the game board, forming our majestic palace. Make sure all the cards are facing the same way.
Next, we need to gather our scholars. Each player gets eight scholars in their matching color. These little guys will be our helpers throughout the game. We can either place them to the side or under our blue palace. It’s up to us.
The island, where all the action will take place, goes in the center of the playing area. It’s like the heart of our kingdom, the place where all our dreams will come true.
Lastly, we need some cash, right? Each player starts with thirty-two thousand ducats. Wow, that’s a lot of money! We can have two of each bill type. Let’s keep our cash hidden from the other players. It’s our secret treasure.
Alright, so here’s what we need to do. First, let’s divide up the starting money among everyone playing. Once each person has taken their share, the remaining money goes in the middle of the playing area. That’s gonna be the bank, where we’ll all be able to reach it. Now, we’re all set to start the game!
How to Play
First things first, we need to choose who goes first. It’s completely random, so everyone’s got a fair shot. Now, pay attention because there are three things you need to do on your turn. First, you gotta collect your salary. Then, you can hire some scholars. And finally, you have to send two of your scholars to apply at other palaces. Got it? Great! Once you’ve finished all three tasks, it’s the next player’s turn. We’ll keep going around the group in a clockwise direction. When everyone has had a turn, that’s the end of a round.
When I collect my salary, I get paid for each scholar that I have working at someone else’s palace. This money comes from the bank. In the first round, I won’t earn any salary because I haven’t placed any scholars yet. After collecting my salary, I need to review applications, resolve any conflicts, and choose the scholars I want to hire.
Once I’ve hired my scholars, I send two of them to other palaces by placing them in front of the palaces I choose. I can send them to the same palace or two different palaces.
The game continues like this until we’ve completed five rounds of gameplay. It’s important to keep my money hidden from the other players throughout the game.
