Hollywood Eights

Welcome to Hollywood Eights, where the objective is simple: be the first player to earn 100 points, and you win!

This game is perfect for groups of 2-5 players, making it a great choice for a fun-filled gathering with friends or family.

Now, let’s talk about the cards. To play Hollywood Eights, you’ll need a standard 52-card deck. The rank of the cards, from highest to lowest, goes like this: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.

Hollywood Eights falls into the shedding game category – a game where the goal is to get rid of all your cards before your opponents do. It’s a fast-paced game that keeps you on your toes!

Designed with kids and teens in mind, Hollywood Eights is a great option to keep the younger crowd entertained and engaged. They’ll have a blast!

The Deal – Hollywood Eights

When it’s time to play a card game, someone has to be the dealer. The dealer is picked randomly, and then the game begins!

The first thing the dealer does is hand out the cards, one by one, to each player in a clockwise fashion. Each player gets five cards in total. The rest of the cards are placed face-down in the middle of the table, creating what we call the stockpile. Now, here’s where things get interesting!

The dealer takes the top card from the stockpile and turns it face-up. This card is the starter card. But, here’s the twist. If the starter card happens to be an 8, the dealer keeps it aside and reveals the card right beneath it from the stockpile. This second card becomes the new starter card. Isn’t that neat?

Let’s Start Playing!

Now that we have everything set up, let’s dive into the play! The player to the left of the dealer is the first one to make a move. Every player must place a card on top of the starter card pile, but there’s a rule – you can only play a card that matches either the suit or rank of the card on top.

Let me give you an example. If the starter card is the Queen of Diamonds, you have two options. You can either play another Queen card or a Diamond card on top of it. It’s all about finding a match!

If you can’t play a card, draw from the stockpile until you find one you can play. If the stockpile is empty and you still can’t play, you have to pass. You can also draw from the stock even if you have a playable card in your hand.

Eights are special cards in this game. They can be played on top of any card during your turn. But if you play an 8, you have to say which suit it represents, so the next player knows what suit to play or if they have another eight.

THE SCORING

The first player to score 100 points wins the game.

Eights are worth 20 points each.
