Get Ready to Play Ging
Are you ready for an exciting card game showdown? Ging is the name, and it’s time to dive into the action!
Prepare for Action
Before we get started, let’s make sure you know exactly what to do. Ging is a four-player card game that requires a special 28-card deck. You’ll also need some stakes to place on the layout. The goal of the game is to use your cards to create the best hand and win stakes from the layout.
Getting Set Up
First things first, let’s determine who the dealer is. The first dealer is chosen randomly, and for future rounds, the dealer will pass to the player on their left. Each player should have an equal number of stakes to use in the game.
Now let’s get the deck ready. In Ging, we modify the deck by removing all the aces, as well as any cards that have a value of 6 or lower. This means we’ll be playing with Kings, Queens, Jacks, 10s, 9s, 8s, and 7s.
When we start the game, we all put two of our bets in the center of the table. These bets form a square with the other players’ bets and occupy one of the four empty corners.
Next, the dealer shuffles the deck and deals each player a hand of seven cards. The dealer goes clockwise, giving each player one card at a time.
The Value of the Cards
In this game, the cards don’t have ranks. Instead, they have a value. Kings, queens, and jacks are worth 10 points each. The other cards have a value that matches the number on them.
How to Play
Once I receive my cards, I take a moment to assess my hand. I can either focus on gathering the majority of a suit or try to form a combination. The order in which we call our decisions doesn’t matter; we simply need to announce our highest-scoring hand.
Once everyone has made their choices and announced their hands, it’s time to compare. If someone has called a combination, it takes priority over the majority of a suit. In the case of multiple combinations being called, we look at the rankings to determine the winner. And if no one has called a combination, we resort to the majority of a suit, with the highest-scoring hand taking the trophy. In some cases, the second highest most of a suit also scores points.
Now, let’s dive into a more detailed explanation of what it means to claim the majority of a suit or a combination.
When it comes to playing cards, the aim is to gather as many points as possible in a single suit. The specific suits themselves don’t actually matter. So, when you’re announcing your points, all you need to do is declare the number of points you have in one suit. For instance, you might say “most points 30.” Simple, right?
But what happens if multiple players have the same highest value? Well, in that case, we determine the order of ranking. The player with the highest value goes first, followed by the player to their left, and so on. Let’s say we have Player B, Player C, and Player D, and they all claim to have 30 points. Since Player D is the dealer, we start with Player B, then go to Player C. Player A, who has a lower score, doesn’t count in this case.
Now, here’s an interesting twist. It’s actually possible for a player to have the highest and second-highest values if they have two suits with high point values. In that scenario, they can claim and score both suits. Talk about a winning hand!
Hey there! Let’s talk about combinations in the game. There are 5 possible combinations, each with different rankings. The highest one is called “Seven cards,” and it consists of having all 7 cards of the same suit. It’s super rare and impressive!
Next up, we have “Four sevens.” This means you need to have all 7 fours in your hand, and nothing else matters. It’s all about those lucky sevens!
Now, let’s talk about “Ging.” To achieve this combination, you must have exactly 37 points in a single suit. No more, no less. It’s a tricky one, but totally doable!
Another combination is “Gentlemen.” To declare this, your hand must be composed only of face cards. That means kings, queens, and jacks. Feel like a royal, right?
Lastly, we have “Bare shoulders.” This requires you to have a hand without any face cards. It’s all about simplicity!
Now, let’s move on to scoring and the next round!
Alright, let’s get right into it! You and a bunch of other players have just finished declaring your moves in the game. This is where the showdown begins – the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Now, if someone has managed to come up with the highest combination of cards, they’re the lucky one! They get to score big time and take home all the stakes from the layout. But hey, don’t worry if you didn’t score a combination. You still have a chance to claim a stake or two!
If no combinations were made, the player with the highest suit among their cards can claim a single corner stake. And guess what? The player with the second-highest suit gets to claim another corner stake. Simple as that! Oh, but hold on. If the same player manages to have both the highest and second-highest suits, they’re on a roll! They get to score a whopping 3 corner stakes. Talk about luck!
Now, let’s talk about the next round. If the layout was cleared by a combination in the previous round, it’s time to set up again. All players, including you, will place 2 stakes onto the layout, just like we did before. But if only corner stakes were taken in the previous round, don’t worry. The players who didn’t manage to score will replace those missing stakes with one of their own. Fair and square!
The End game!
Finally, we come to the end game. There are two ways this can happen. Either we play a set number of rounds, predetermined before the game started, or one unfortunate player runs out of stakes to place. In that case, the player with the most stakes at that point wins the game. It’s as simple as that!
