Four of a kind – learn how to play with

FOUR OF A KIND

Welcome to Four of a Kind, a game that everyone in the family can enjoy! Whether you’re playing with 4 people or more, this fun bidding game is sure to keep you entertained. You can even play it for small stakes like nickels or dimes, or just for the thrill of the game!

The objective of each round is simple: you either want to have four cards of the same rank, or the lowest-ranked hand, to win the pot. But before we get started, make sure everyone agrees on the antes, which are the initial bets that go into the pot.

SETTING UP AND PLACING YOUR BIDS

First, every player puts their antes into the pot. Then, a dealer is chosen at random who will shuffle the deck and let another player cut the cards. For future rounds, the deal can pass to the person on the left or to the winner of the previous round. The choice is yours!

So here’s how the game goes: first, the dealer gives each player a card facing up. If someone gets the same rank as someone else, they have to put their card back in the deck, reshuffle, and draw a new one. This keeps going until everyone has a unique card.

Once we all have our cards, the betting starts. The person with the highest ranked card goes first. And just like in other poker games, you can check, bet, raise, fold, or call.

The first player can either check or bet. If someone bets, then the options are to call, raise, or fold. The bidding only stops when everyone who’s still in the game has put the same amount of money into the pot.

But here’s the twist: in this game, you can only raise a total of three times. After that, you have to either call or fold. So make those raises count!

Card Ranking

When we play cards, we assign a rank to each card. The highest-ranking card is the Ace, followed by the King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2 as the lowest-ranking card.

How to Play

Once everyone has finished betting, the dealer starts revealing cards one by one from the top of the deck. If a revealed card matches a player’s card rank, that player gets to keep the card. After a player receives a new card, a new round of betting begins with the player who has the highest-ranked hand.

If a revealed card does not match any player’s card rank, it is discarded, and another card is revealed. This process continues until a player has four cards of the same rank, known as four of a kind.

It’s important to know that if a player folds, they are out of the round and do not receive any cards.

How the Game Ends

I’m going to explain what happens when a player gets four cards of the same rank in a game. When that happens, the round is over, and we determine who gets the pot. First, we look at the player with the four of a kind. They will share the pot with the player who has the lowest-ranking hand. If they can’t split it evenly, the player with the four of a kind gets a bigger portion. That’s how the round ends.

Now, let’s talk about when the game ends.

The game goes on until the players decide they want to stop playing. It’s up to them to say when it’s over.

Now, I want to introduce you to Amber. They are an Austin writer who loves games. They think they’re a real gaming master! They also love dogs, plants, and the game Dungeons & Dragons (D&D).
