Fe fi fo fum – learn to play with

FE FI FO FUM

Hey there! Have you heard of Fe Fi Fo Fum? It’s a super fun card game that can be played by 4 – 6 people. The goal of the game is simple – get rid of all your cards before anyone else does. It’s like a race to empty your hand! Kids love it, but I bet it would also make for a great bar game. Plus, the loser buys the next round. How cool is that?

THE CARDS & THE DEAL

You just need a standard 52-card deck to play this game. To decide who gets to deal first, each player picks a card from the deck. The one with the lowest card becomes the dealer. Simple, right?

The dealer has to shuffle the deck really well and deal out all the cards, one by one, to each player. Sometimes, if there are five or six players, some people might end up with more cards than others. But don’t worry, it’s all part of the game. Once everyone has their cards, it’s time to begin!

THE PLAY

So here’s how the game goes. It all starts with the player to the left of the dealer. They pick a card from their hand and play it on the table. And while doing that, they gotta say, “Fe”.

Now, if the next player has a card of the same suit and in ascending order, they can play it and say, “Fi”. Then it’s the next player’s turn, and they say, “Fo”. And this goes on until we reach the final player, who says, “Giant’s Bum”. And that player gets to start a new run with a card of their choice, and they begin the chant again by saying, “Fe”.

But here’s the twist. If someone happens to play a King, the whole chant gets reset. And the player who played the King gets to choose the new starting card and starts the chant all over again.

As I keep playing the game, I notice that the pauses in the run become more frequent. It happens when the card needed to continue the sequence has already been played. In such cases, the player who made the last move gets to choose a different card and starts the chant again. It’s like a never-ending cycle of playing and chanting.

We keep going like this until someone at the table manages to get rid of all their cards. That’s when the game comes to an end.

WINNING

The winner is the first player who successfully gets rid of all their cards. And that’s the ultimate goal of the game – to be the first one to empty your hand.
