CTRL
Are you a fan of construction and strategy games? Well, you’re in luck because CTRL is the perfect game for you! In this game, I’ll be attempting to build my Domain by adding blocks to the Battlefield. These blocks will come together to create a large, 3-dimensional field that might be a bit challenging to navigate.
But here’s the twist – I can build on top of my opponents’ blocks to take control of their areas! And whenever I want to protect an area for future construction, I can plant my flag to mark it as mine. Just remember, I must be careful not to get blocked myself!
SETUP
Game Setup
First things first, let’s set up the game. I’ll place the central cube on the table where everyone can reach it. Then, I get to choose my color – the color that represents my Domain in this game. I’ll gather my flag and twenty-two blocks, all in my chosen color.
As we get ready to start the game, each of us will connect our own block to the side of the Central Cube. This will be our starting point. Make sure your starting block is right next to the table surface. Next, you can attach your flag to your starting block, pointing upwards. And now, we’re all set to begin!
Let the Game Begin!
Since you were the one who suggested playing CTRL, you get to make the first move. Each turn has three steps. First, you need to remove your flag from the Battlefield, along with any blocks that are attached to the Central Cube. This way, you’ll clear up space for new blocks to be placed.
Okay, here’s where things get interesting. The first thing you gotta do is put three blocks of your color in a line. But there’s a catch! The first block you place has to be next to another block that’s already in your area. This is gonna mark the starting point for your line. Once you’ve put down the first block, you need to decide which direction you’re gonna go. The playing field can be turned around, but it always has to stay on the table. You gotta figure out the best way to go using the available options.
Now, here’s the next important part. Your blocks have to be put down in a straight line on the surface of the playing field. You can’t go off in some random direction away from it. When you get to the edge of the field, you gotta roll your next block 90 degrees forward onto the new surface and just keep going. But here’s the thing – you can’t keep going in a straight line once you hit the edge.
If I hit a wall, the next block I place will roll 90 degrees backward, allowing it to climb the wall. I should treat the top of a wall as if it were an edge. If there is a wall or edge that is only one block high, I can step up or step down as needed.
When I finish placing blocks, I can then place my flag on any exposed side of a block within my Domain. I have the freedom to choose which direction it faces.
Obstructions
If there is an obstruction in my path, I must choose a different path because my original one is considered illegal. For example, if there is a table blocking my path, I need to find another way around it. The same applies if another player’s flag is obstructing my path.
So, let’s talk about the game. When it’s your turn to play, there’s something important to remember. You can’t choose a path that would put your blocks next to another player’s starting block. That’s the rule for your first turn.
When the Game Ends
Now, let’s talk about how the game ends. It’s simple, really. When all the players have placed their blocks, the game is over. But who wins? The player with the highest score in their Domain wins!
So, how do you score points? It’s based on the exposed faces of the blocks on each side of the Battlefield. You count the exposed faces on all sides and add them together. That’s your score.
It’s all about strategy and trying to get the highest score. Good luck!
