CLUBBED
Hey there! I want to tell you about Clubbed, a super fun card game for 2 players. It was created by Dave and Kendall Cline back in 2017. The goal of the game is to make your opponent collect as many cards as possible by “clubbing” them with Club cards. It’s like a cool twist on the classic game of Crazy Eights. The person with the fewest collected cards at the end wins!
THE CARDS & THE DEAL
Okay, so in Clubbed, you’re going to need a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Each player starts with 5 cards in their hand. The rest of the cards go in the middle as a draw pile, and one card is flipped over to start the discard pile.
THE PLAY
When you play the game, you’ll have a turn to try and get rid of one of your cards by placing it on the discard pile. To do this, you need to find a card in your hand that has the same suit (like Hearts or Clubs) or rank (like a 3 or a King) as the top card on the pile. For example, if the top card on the pile is a 3 of Hearts, you can play any card that is also a 3 or a Hearts card.
If you have a card that matches the suit or rank, it’s your job to add it to the pile. But there’s a twist! If the first card on the pile is a Club, the player who goes first can play any card they want to start things off.
So, here’s another option you have as a player: you can play any Club card. If you’re not into matching the suit or rank of the top card on the discard pile, you can just go ahead and play a Club. The best part? You don’t have to play a Club if you don’t want to. It’s totally up to you!
Now, when you play a Club card and add it to the discard pile, something interesting happens. The player on the other side of the table has to pick up the whole pile and keep it face down in front of them. It’s like they’re getting “clubbed”! But don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sounds.
Actually, it’s kind of a perk for the player who just got clubbed. They get to play any card they want next. It’s like a second chance to turn the game around. And if they decide to start the new discard pile with another Club card, well, that card gets snatched up right away by the other player. Talk about a quick response!
If I can’t play a matching card to the discard pile, or if I don’t want to play a Club, I have to keep drawing cards until I can play. If I’ve been hit with a Club and I only have Club cards in my hand, I can choose to draw more cards instead of playing a Club to start a new discard pile.
The game keeps going until there are no more cards left in the draw pile and one of the players can’t play a card to the discard pile. When that happens, both players have to add the cards that are left in their hands to their collection of cards. The cards in the discard pile are not given to either player.
WINNING
The player who has the fewest cards at the end of the game is the winner.
