BOON

Hey there! Let me tell you about Boon, a cool card game created by Alex Lau and Jess Warren in Austin, Texas. You might be wondering what it’s all about, so let’s dive in!

MATERIALS

All you need to play Boon is a deck of 32 cards. This deck has four suits: green, red, blue, and gold. The gold suit is super special; it’s called the trump suit and has 14 cards ranked from 1 to 14. The other three suits each have 6 cards ranked from 1 to 6. And hey, every card also has a point value right in the center!

When we start playing the game, each of us will have something called Victory Cards. These cards are an important part of the game because they determine who wins and who loses. The person who wins each round will receive victory cards from the people who lost.

SETUP

Hey there! Let’s dive into the wonderful world of website creation. Today, we’ll be exploring the magic of HTML markup and how it brings web pages to life. So grab a cup of hot cocoa and get ready to embark on this exciting journey with me!

Now, I know you might be scratching your head, wondering what HTML markup is all about. Don’t worry, my friend, I’ve got you covered. HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It’s like the skeleton of a webpage, giving structure and organization to the content you see on your screen.

Think of HTML tags as mighty superheroes that have unique powers. They have the ability to make text bold, create headings, add images, and much more. These tags are written in angle brackets, like “, and they always come in pairs: an opening tag “ and a closing tag “. The content between these tags is affected by the superpowers of the tag.

Let’s take a quick look at some common HTML tags:

– `

` – This tag is used for creating the main heading on a webpage.

– “ – The paragraph tag is great for writing chunks of text.

– `` – This tag allows you to insert images into your webpage.

Are you excited yet? I sure am! Together, we’ll unleash the power of HTML markup and create stunning web pages that will leave everyone in awe. So, grab your cape (figuratively speaking) and let’s get started on this epic adventure!

I’ll give you five Victory Cards.

For a game with three players, we need to take out the Green 1 and the Red 1 from the deck. You will each receive nine cards, and the remaining three cards will be placed face down to create the Boon. The Boon will act as a kitty.

If there are four players, we don’t remove any cards. Each player will receive seven cards, and the four remaining cards will make up the Boon.

The dealing order moves to the left each round.

THE BOON

Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, each person has the choice to pick up the Boon and add it to their hand. Only one person can do this. If you don’t want the Boon, you pass it along.

When you pick up the Boon, you have to choose the same number of cards from your hand to discard face down. Make sure you start the round with the same number of cards you were dealt.

As the one who picks up the Boon, you become a solo player for this round. Your goal is to gather the most points available. The other players at the table are now a team trying to prevent you from winning the majority of points.

If everyone passes without picking up the Boon, the round switches to Leaster Mode. In this mode, each player is on their own, trying to win the round individually. The objective in Leaster Mode is to capture as few points as possible. It’s crucial for each player to win at least one trick, or else they won’t be able to score in this round.

THE PLAY

When playing a card game, like the one I’m about to explain, the first move is crucial. The person to the left of the dealer takes the lead and plays the first card. Here’s the catch: everyone else must follow suit and play a card of the same color, if they have one. However, if they don’t have a matching card, they can play any card they want.

But wait, there’s more! The trick is won by the player who plays the highest card in the led color or the highest trump-suited card. Pretty cool, huh? The winner of the trick then gets to lead the next one, and this continues until all the tricks have been taken.

Now, let’s talk about scoring. Once all the tricks have been played, it’s time to add up the points. Each player counts how many points they’ve captured. Imagine, there are a total of 120 points up for grabs in each round!

Oh, and here’s another interesting part: based on the scores, Victory Cards are awarded. So, the higher your score, the more Victory Cards you’ll receive. Cool, right?

So, let’s keep playing rounds until we reach the win condition. Are you ready for the challenge?

If you collect 0-29 points while holding the Boon, you have to give 2 victory cards to every other player. But if you score 30-60 points, you only have to give each player 1 victory card.

If you’re the one who has the Boon and you earn more than half of the possible points, you win victory cards. If you get 61-90 points, you receive 1 victory card from each player. And if you manage to capture 91-120 points, you get 2 victory cards from everyone else.

In Leaster Mode, if you have the lowest score but still managed to capture at least one trick, you get a victory card from each player.

The game continues until a player runs out of victory cards.

WINNING

The player with the most victory cards wins the game.
