The Thrilling Game of Bidding Kozel

Hey there! Have you ever heard of Bidding Kozel? It’s a really cool card game that can be played by 2 to 5 players. The objective of the game is to win pots by having the highest score at the end of a round.

Bidding Kozel is usually played as a gambling game, so it’s important to decide on the value of the stakes before starting the game.

Let’s Get Set Up!

First things first, all players need to put in an equal number of stakes into the pot. Then, we have to modify the deck by removing all cards ranked 5 and lower. This will give us a smaller deck of 36 cards to play with.

Now, time to choose the first dealer! It’s a random selection process. Once the dealer is chosen, they will shuffle the deck and deal each player a 4-card hand. Remember, cards are dealt one at a time.

Here comes an exciting moment! The dealer will reveal the next card to determine the trump suit for this round. Then, the remaining cards in the deck will be placed on top so that everyone can see the trump suit.

Understanding Card Ranking and Points

The order of the cards from highest to lowest is Ace, 10, King, Queen, Jack, 9, 8, 7, and 6. Aces are worth 11 points, 10s are worth 10 points, kings are worth 4 points, queens are worth 3 points, and jacks are worth 2 points. All other cards have no point value.

HOW TO PLAY

The game begins with the player sitting to the left of the dealer, and then moves clockwise around the table.

The first player starts a round by playing any card, or a set of 3 cards of the same suit.

Following players are not required to play cards of the same suit, but they must play the same number of cards as the first player did.

A single card can be beaten by a higher-ranked card of the same suit, or any trump card if the originally played card is not a trump card. To beat a set of cards, you must individually beat each card in the set with one of your own cards played in the round.

When I win a trick, I get to add all the cards played during it to my score pile. But here’s the catch: once they’re added, I can’t look back at them. I have to rely on my memory to keep track of my score.

After each trick, all players have to refresh their hand. We draw cards from the stockpile, one at a time, in a clockwise order starting from the winner of the trick. But here’s the twist: if there aren’t enough cards left to refill everyone’s hand, we don’t draw any more cards. We just finish the game with the cards we have.

The winner of the previous trick gets to lead the next one. So they have a head start in the next round.

When the round ends

Once the round is over and all the tricks have been played and won, I tally up the scores. The player with the most points wins. If there’s a tie, we split the pot among all the winners.

We gather up the ante and start a new round, with everyone contributing the same number of stakes as before. The person who won the pot becomes the new dealer. In the case of a tie, the player sitting closest to the left of the last dealer takes on the role of the new dealer.

EXTRA SPECIAL COMBOS

There are two special combinations that automatically grant victory and win you the pot: Bura and aces.

To play Bura, you need to put down any three trumps in a trick. To win with Aces, you must have all four aces in your hand.

In the game of Bura, if a player has four aces in their hand or plays a Bura, the round ends, and they win the pot. When multiple players have Buras, all Buras are played out in the trick, and the Bura that wins the trick also wins the pot.
