A Castle for All Seasons

An Overview of A Castle for All Seasons

All across the land, workers are arriving to help build the king’s new castle. As a master builder, I have the power to make my own decisions as the game unfolds. The winner will only be revealed in the end, when the points are counted. Throughout the game, I will gather resources, money, and construct magnificent buildings that will stand as a testament to my skills.

Setting Up the Game

To begin, I need to place the board at the center of the playing area, making sure the side showing summer is facing up. This way, it’s easy for everyone to reach the board. If there are two or four players, I should put a “taler” coin on the first twelve spaces. If there are three players, I should place them on the first fifteen spaces instead.

So, here’s what you need to do to set up the defense tower: first, you’ll need to place a clay slab, a silver bar, a stone block, a wooden beam, and a sand pile, making sure to arrange them with the matching pictures. Once that’s done, it’s time to choose your color and gather your supplies.

Choose a point marker, six helpers, a set of cards, and a summary card that all match in color. Don’t forget to grab three talers, a wooden beam, and a sand pile too. Place these items in front of you to create your play area and get ready to start the game.

Now, let’s talk about the rest of the game setup. The remaining supplies are distributed and organized into the four carts located at the bottom of the game board. The rest of the talers will become the bank, so put them beside the game board. And that’s it – the game is all set up and ready to go!

GAMEPLAY

So here’s how the game goes down: there are twelve rounds, and each round has five phases. In phase one, the starting player gets the starting player marker. In phase two, we all choose our character cards and put them on the table. Next comes the exciting part – we all reveal our cards at once! If you’ve got a worker card, you can outfit it with some resources. But don’t forget, there’s a specific order for executing the cards.

During each round, we all play one card from our hand, facing down on our playing area. If you’ve picked a worker, you get to add three resource pieces from the stock onto your card. Pretty cool, right? Oh, and each worker card shows which three resources it needs. Gotta keep that in mind!

So, here’s how it goes. First, the messenger gets to do their thing. Then, it’s the trader’s turn. After that, we have the bricklayer, followed by the stonemason. Then we have the worker, and lastly, the master builder. If there’s more than one player with the same card, we start with the first player and keep going clockwise.

Once all the cards for the round have been played, the first player changes, and it goes around the group in a clockwise direction. The first player also gets to collect the taler from the highest space. And that’s how the game keeps going for 12 rounds.

The Game Ends

After those 12 rounds, it’s a wrap. Now we tally up our scores. The way to do it is by adding up our helpers. But wait, the helpers in the carts don’t count for victory points. Only the ones that aren’t in carts get scored. Here’s how it works:

Scoring

The Keep: If you have the helper in the keep, you will earn 3 points for each empty place in the castle.

The Tavern: If you have the helper that cost twelve talers, you will earn 1 point for each helper in the castle at the end of the game. If you have the helper that cost six talers, you will earn 1 point for every 2 helpers in the castle.

The Gates: If you have helpers at the small gates, you will earn 1 victory point for each tower. If you have helpers at the big gates, you will earn 2 victory points for each tower.

The Stable: If you have the helper on the 16th spot, you will earn 3 points for each house. If you have the helper on the 12th spot, you will earn 2 points for each house.

Let me tell you about some interesting places in the game called The Gallerist. These places can really help you score some points!

First, we have the Servants’ House. If you have helpers in this house, you’ll earn one point for each un-built building tile.

Next, we have the Market. If you have one helper in the market, you’ll score one point for every two talers that you convert. And if you have two helpers in the market, you’ll score one point for each converted taler.

Now, let’s talk about the Palace. If you have a helper in the palace, you can convert up to five resources into victory points. But if you have two helpers, you can convert as many as ten resources into points. That’s pretty cool!

Lastly, we have the Forge. If you own a helper on the 10th spot of the forge, you’ll score one point for each bar of silver at the end of the game. And if you own the helper on the 6th spot, you’ll score a victory point for every two bars. Isn’t that amazing?
