Now, I know you might be wondering, “What are variant rules?” Well, my friend, variant rules are additional guidelines that you can follow to spice up your Solenia gameplay. They give you the chance to try out different strategies and add some extra excitement to the game.
Today, I want to walk you through a few variant rules that you can use in Solenia. These rules can take your gaming experience to a whole new level, so get ready to have some fun!
Rule #1: Trade Routes
Here’s an interesting twist for you. With the trade routes variant rule, you can establish trade routes between cities. This means you can transport goods from one city to another, opening up new opportunities for resource management and strategic planning.
Imagine the possibilities! You’ll have to think carefully about which cities you connect and what resources you’re transporting. Will you focus on delivering high-value goods to earn big rewards, or will you prioritize efficiency to maximize your trading potential? The choice is yours!
Rule #2: Nomads
Get ready to meet the nomads! This variant rule introduces a group of wandering nomads to the game. These nomads are constantly on the move, and if you manage to meet them, you can benefit from their expertise and unique abilities.
Imagine stumbling upon a group of nomads who excel at resource gathering. They can help you gather more resources or even protect your cities from certain events. It’s like having a powerful ally by your side!
Rule #3: Hidden Objective Cards
Now, this one really adds a mysterious touch to the game. With hidden objective cards, you’ll receive secret objectives that you need to achieve during gameplay. These objectives can give you extra points or special abilities.
But here’s the catch – you have to keep your objectives hidden from your opponents. Can you imagine the thrill of secretly working towards your goals while trying to decipher what your opponents are up to?
Rule #4: Legendary Buildings
Ah, the legendary buildings – the stuff of legends! In this variant rule, you’ll have the opportunity to construct powerful legendary buildings. These buildings provide unique abilities and can elevate your gameplay to a whole new level.
Imagine having a building that generates extra resources or one that allows you to take additional actions. It’s like having your very own secret weapon!
Rule #5: Time-Limited Gameplay
Feeling a need for speed? With the time-limited gameplay variant rule, you’ll add a time pressure element to your Solenia sessions. You’ll have a set amount of time to make your moves and complete your actions.
This rule will keep you on your toes, forcing you to think quickly and adapt to changing circumstances. Can you handle the thrill of racing against the clock while trying to outsmart your opponents?
So there you have it – five exciting variant rules to take your Solenia experience to new heights. Are you ready to give them a try? I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Remember, these variant rules are just options you can explore. If you enjoy the base game, don’t worry – it’s still a fantastic experience on its own. But if you’re looking for a little extra excitement and a chance to try something new, these variant rules are just the ticket.
So gather your friends, set up the game, and let the Solenia adventure begin! Happy gaming!
Hey there! Let’s talk about playing the game with the winter side of the player boards. It’s pretty much the same as playing with the summer side, but with a twist. Instead of one slot for each day and night at levels 1-6, the winter side has two slots for each at levels 1-3.
How to Play
The game is played just like the summer side, with one important difference. When you claim a Delivery tile, you have to decide which slot to activate on your player board. Here’s the catch: you can only activate a power if there’s already a lower-level power activated in the same row. This means that if you want to activate a second power at the same level, you need to have two lower-level powers activated in that same row.
Example: To activate a level-2 day power, you need to have a level-1 day power already activated. To activate a second level-3 day power, you need to have two level-1 and two level-2 day powers already activated.
- On your player board’s winter side, you only have 6 storage spaces.
- Throughout the game, you can increase your storage capacity by two spaces, bringing your total to 8.
- At the end of the game, tiles in day/night pairs do not earn gold stars.
Using Improvement Tiles
Setup
Same as when using the winter side of your player boards. Then, reveal as many level-1 Improvement tiles as there are players.
To start the game, we need to create tiles for each player. We do this by randomly pairing a day half-tile and a night half-tile, making sure their powers are different.
We’ll choose the tiles in reverse turn order, so the last player goes first. Each player gets to choose a level-1 or a level-3 tile. Then we’ll do a second round of selections, choosing the other level, so that everyone ends up with one level-1 tile and one level-3 tile.
Now that we have our tiles, it’s time to place them on our player boards. Each player will put their 2 Improvement tiles on the spaces reserved for this purpose, following the rules for level (level 1 / level 3) and type (day half-tile / night half-tile).
Let the Game Begin
The game will unfold just like it does when we use the winter side of the player boards. The only difference is that our powers have changed. It’s time to unleash our new abilities and see who comes out on top!
