When you become skilled at the fundamental rules, you can start exploring different versions of the game to make it more exciting. Here are some alternative ways to play:

  1. When I’m playing the game, I have the power to demolish both my opponents’ tower tiles and walls. Just like with walls, I need to make sure that the tower tile I destroy is an exact match.
  2. When it’s my turn, I can choose to draw my first tile from the discard pile. However, I still have to draw my second tile from one of the face-down piles.
  3. When I’m building my castle, it’s not enough to just match one side of the tower or wall tile. I need to make sure that it matches on both sides.

Alternate Game Versions

Try out these different ways of playing to test your “fortress fortitude.” These versions have their own rules that you can add to the standard game rules.

Two-player Takeover

In a two-player game, when you successfully attack, instead of discarding destroyed tiles, you can use them to build up your own castle on future turns.

Empire

In the Empire version, each player builds two castles. The goal is to finish both of your castles or destroy all of your opponents’ castles. You can switch tiles between your two castles during your turns.

King of the Castle (for Two Players)

In this version, both players work together to build a single castle during their turns. Just like in the regular game, you can use your tiles to destroy matching tiles. The first player to complete the castle wins.

Siege Solitaire

I’m going to tell you about a fun game that you can play all by yourself. It’s called “Castle Builders.” Here’s how it works:

To start the game, deal yourself four tiles and turn over another tile from the draw pile to begin building your castle. There’s no rule saying that you have to start with a wall or a tower first, so you can even place a keep first if you want!

Each turn, you’ll draw one tile from the draw pile and then play tiles from your hand, just like in the regular game. Make sure to discard down to four tiles after playing.

At the end of every turn, you’ll turn over two tiles from the draw piles. If any of those tiles match any tile in your castle, including the keep, those matching tiles are destroyed. If there are any adjacent walls or towers of the same color, they will also be destroyed. If a tile matches more than one tile in your castle, you get to choose which one to destroy.

The goal of the game is to build a complete castle before the draw piles run out. If you can do that, you win! However, if your castle ever has no tiles, or if you haven’t finished building it by the time the draw piles are empty, you lose.

So, are you ready to start building your castle? Let’s go!
