Tiles of Suburbia
Hey there! Welcome to my guide to the wonderful world of tiles in suburbia. If you’re like me, you’ve probably walked past countless houses with beautiful tiles without giving them a second thought. But let me tell you, those tiles have a story to tell. They’re not just pieces of ceramic or stone – they’re works of art, expressions of creativity, and symbols of history.
When I see a house with tiles, I can’t help but wonder about the person who picked them out. Did they choose a simple design, or something intricate and eye-catching? Did they go for bright colors or subtle earth tones? Each tile is like a brushstroke on a canvas, contributing to the overall picture of a home.
Tiles are also practical. They protect the walls and floors from wear and tear, adding durability to a home. They’re easy to clean, which is always a plus. And the best part? They come in all shapes and sizes, so you can create a design that’s uniquely yours.
But it’s not just about aesthetics and functionality. Tiles have cultural significance too. Different patterns and motifs can represent specific regions or traditions. They can tell a story about the local community, its people, and their heritage. Just by looking at a set of tiles, you can learn something about the place you’re in.
So next time you’re out and about, I encourage you to take a closer look at the tiles around you. Notice the colors, the patterns, and the textures. Appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that went into creating them. And remember, each tile is a window into a world of creativity and culture – it’s a small detail that can make a big impact.
When you place a tile in your city, it has a direct impact on your city’s progress. There are four types of tiles that you can choose from:
You have Residential tiles , Industrial tiles
, Commercial tiles
, and Civic tiles
.
Most of these tiles will give you bonuses or penalties in the areas of Income , Reputation
, or Population
. Some tiles will even grant you special abilities!
Each tile is made up of four or five main elements, which are shown in the example below:
When you play with tiles, it’s important to remember that each tile must connect to another tile. You can place the tiles next to each other, either face up or face down. However, you can’t place a tile on top of the Borough Board.
Have Fun with Interactive Icon Tiles!
When you play some tiles in the game, they have special icons on the right corner. These tiles are interactive and have a unique effect. Let me give you an example: the Business Supply Store gets an increase in income for every tile that has an office icon (a little briefcase) on it. This includes the Office Building, the Office of Bureaucracy, and the Local EPA Office.
Order of Resolving Tile Effects
When resolving the effects of tiles, make sure to follow this order:
- First, pay the cost of the tile that is shown on the left corner of the tile. If there are any additional costs shown on the Real Estate Market, pay those as well.
Adjusting tiles in the game is a crucial aspect to consider. Here are some guidelines to help you make the necessary adjustments:
1. Take a look at the immediate effect shown in the upper right of the tile, and adjust accordingly.
2. Consider the conditional effect at the bottom of the tile, and make the necessary adjustments based on that.
3. Also, take into account the conditional effects of any adjacent tiles and make the appropriate adjustments.
4. Similarly, consider the conditional effects of any non-adjacent tiles and adjust accordingly.
5. It’s important to communicate with other players and see if any of their tiles will require you to make adjustments.
6. Additionally, check with other players to see if the tile you’ve played impacts their boroughs.
Remember, tile effects can stack, and you can have multiple copies of the same named tile in a single borough. For example, it’s okay to have two Fast Food Restaurants in one borough. Happy adjusting!
