The Doomsday Module of Anachrony
Imagine a world where time is running out, where the future hangs in the balance.
Now, picture yourself as the leader of a group of survivors in this post-apocalyptic wasteland. You hold the fate of humanity in your hands, and it’s up to you to make the right decisions and ensure our survival.
But here’s the catch – there’s a doomsday module in play. This means that as we progress through the game, the threat of doomsday looms ever closer. It’s a constant reminder that time is of the essence, and we must act swiftly and wisely to prevent the end of the world.
As the leader, you’ll need to carefully manage your resources, make tough choices, and strategize for the future. Do you focus on rebuilding and regenerating what was lost, or do you prioritize defense and protecting our fragile existence?
The doomsday module adds a whole new level of tension and urgency to the game. Every decision you make, every move you take, has consequences that ripple through time. And the clock is ticking.
But don’t despair – you’re not alone in this fight. Your fellow survivors are here to support you, offering their expertise and assistance. Together, you can push back against the forces of destruction and find hope in this desolate world.
And when you emerge victorious, when you’ve thwarted doomsday and secured our future, the sense of accomplishment will be immeasurable. The weight of the world will have been lifted off your shoulders, and you can proudly say that you saved humanity.
So, are you ready to take on the challenge? Can you handle the pressure and make the right decisions? Step into the world of Anachrony’s doomsday module and find out. Your destiny awaits.
When it comes to playing the Doomsday module, you have the power to decide the fate of humanity. By conducting different Experiments, you can actively change the course of events leading up to the Impact and potentially prevent its devastating effects.
However, it’s important to remember that not all Paths have the same goal of saving Earth from destruction. Some Paths see this as an opportunity to eliminate their rivals and establish their dominance once and for all.
The Role of Experiments and the Doomsday Track
Experiments are a key feature in the game and represent the Paths’ efforts to influence the timing and impact of the impending catastrophe. Each Experiment card has a condition, a cost, and a reward in the form of Victory Points.
When you’re focused, you can claim experiments using the new Experiment Action on the Main board. Each experiment you claim gives you Victory Points and a chance to move forward on the Doomsday track, depending on which path you choose to follow – either saving Earth by reducing the damage from the Impact, or sealing its fate.
The Paths can earn extra Victory Points for their experiments based on the progress of the Doomsday track. The timing of the Impact can even change.
Setting Up
1. Put the Impact tile between the fifth and sixth Timeline Tile, instead of the fourth and fifth.
Alright, let’s get started. Here’s what you need to do:
First, we’re going to lay out the Timeline. Take the first Timeline tile and place a random level 1 Experiment card face-up beneath it. Then, place a face-down Level 1 Experiment card beneath each of the following Timeline tiles. Any leftover Level 1 Experiment cards should go back into the box without peeking at them.
Now, let’s set up the board for the start of the game. The first Timeline tile should have a face-up Superproject on top and a face-up Level 1 Experiment card beneath it. All other Superprojects and Experiments should be face down.
Next, grab the Doomsday board and place it next to the Main board. Think of it as an extension of the Main board. Put the Trajectory dice in their designated slots on the Doomsday board, and place the Save Earth and Seal Fate tracker tokens on their starting positions on the Doomsday Track.
Lastly, take all the level 2 Experiment cards and shuffle them into a face-down stack. Put the stack next to the Doomsday board.
Hey there! Let me tell you something cool. You know that game, the one where you have to choose the 5 random Endgame Condition cards? Before you do that, make sure you add the “Most Completed Experiments” card to the mix. It’s kind of important, you know? This card will spice things up and make the game even more interesting.

Getting Ready – Making Adjustments
All right, let’s get things started! To prepare for the next phase, follow these steps. First, turn over the Superproject tile on top of the Era’s Timeline tile. As you do that, you’ll also flip the Level 1 Experiment card underneath it from face-down to face-up. Great job so far!
Now, take a look at the Timelines. If there’s any Timeline without an Experiment card beneath it, grab a Level 2 Experiment card from the top of the stack and place it face-up below that Timeline. Make sure everyone can see the card clearly.
#image.jpgIntroducing a New Action – The Experiment
I want to tell you about a cool new action in the Doomsday module of Anachrony: the Experiment.
So, when you decide to take the Experiment Action, you have the exciting opportunity to get an Experiment card. But how do you claim one, you ask? Well, it’s simple:
- If you’re focused on it,
- If you meet the conditions on the experiment card,
- If you pay the cost indicated on the experiment card.
When you successfully claim an experiment card:
- Take it from below the Timeline tile and put it next to your Player board as a reminder.
- Get a number of VP tokens shown on the experiment card (either 2 or 3), and possibly more VP tokens based on your position on the Doomsday track.
- If you follow the Path of Harmony or the Path of Dominance, you can move the “save earth” tracker one step up on the Doomsday track.
- If you follow the Path of Salvation or the Path of Progress, you can move the “seal Fate” tracker one step down on the Doomsday track.
Details about workers:
Any worker can take the Experiment Action.
The Hex Pool in Experiment is a special space where you can put as many Workers as you want. It’s like a little experiment hub.
The Doomsday Track
When you conduct an Experiment in the game, you have two choices: you can either move the “Save Earth” tracker up or the “Seal Fate” tracker down. Which one you choose depends on your Path.
After you move the tracker, take a look at the spot where it landed. If there’s a number next to your Path symbol (those symbols in the corners), you get that many Victory Points, plus the Victory Points you already earned from the Experiment.
But here’s the catch: only you can get Victory Points from the Doomsday track. No sharing! And the Paths of Harmony and Salvation give you more Victory Points when you’re at the end, while the Paths of Dominance and Progress give you less at the beginning.
Example 1: Ready for some next-level gaming action? Dominance player’s move is all about taking charge and showing off your skills. With this strategy, I’m always on the hunt for the biggest and best power plays. From aggressive tactics to epic battles, I’m in it to win it. Taking risks and going for the glory is what it’s all about for me. So, if you’re ready to dominate the game and leave your opponents in awe, this is the move for you.
Example 2: Looking for a gaming experience filled with collaboration and teamwork? Harmony player’s move is the way to go. With this strategy, it’s all about working together and creating a harmonious atmosphere in the game. I thrive on cooperation, communication, and finding common ground with my team. Together, we can achieve greatness and overcome any challenge that comes our way. So, if you’re ready to build bridges and forge strong alliances, this is the move for you.

When I’m conducting Experiments, there are a couple of things I need to keep in mind. One is whether the Impact has already happened. I can tell this by checking if the “Save Earth” or “Seal Fate” tracker is in the final slot on the Doomsday Track. If it is, then the Impact has already occurred, and I can proceed with my Experiments.
Another thing I need to consider is the VP values. Even if the Impact has occurred or the trackers are in the final slot, I can still conduct Experiments for their VP values. So if I have any Experiments that I want to try out, I can go ahead and do them.
Now let’s talk about the Clean Up Phase and the changes that happen during this time. Specifically, I want to focus on the step where I need to check for Impact. Before I resolve a potential Impact, I roll the two trajectory dice and count the number of – and + symbols. I look at the result of the Trajectory die roll and also the slots on the Doomsday track where the “Save Earth” and “Seal Fate” Trackers are.
Based on the result, one of three things can happen. Either the Impact hasn’t happened yet, in which case I can continue with my Experiments. Or it could be that the Impact has already occurred, and I need to deal with its consequences. Finally, it’s possible that the result is inconclusive, and I’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
So, that’s the process I follow when conducting Experiments and dealing with potential Impacts. By understanding these steps and keeping them in mind, I can navigate this challenging but exciting world of scientific exploration.
- When there are more + symbols than – symbols, the Impact tile moves 1 space to the right on the Timeline track. This means the Impact will happen one Era later.
- When there are more – symbols than + symbols, the Impact tile moves 1 space to the left on the Timeline track. This means the Impact will happen one Era earlier. However, if the Impact tile would end up behind the current Era tile, it does not move.
- If there are an equal number of – and + symbols, the Impact tile does not move.
Hey there! I have an important rule to share with you. If the “Seal Fate” tracker is at the bottom of the Doomsday track during the Check for Impact phase, here’s what you should do: instead of rolling the Trajectory dice, just place the Impact tile after the current Timeline tile (no matter where it is) and resolve the Impact right away.
Now, here’s another crucial point: If the “Save Earth” tracker is at the top of the Doomsday track, that means you’ve saved the Earth! Congrats! This also means that the Impact’s damage to the present is completely avoided, and the game is over. Time for the final scoring. Just keep in mind, if the Earth is saved, there won’t be an evacuation, so adjust your game plan accordingly!
Optional Rule – Planned Experiments
If you’re already familiar with the Doomsday module and you prefer planning your Experiment Actions ahead, then these optional rules are for you.
- Put the Level 2 Experiment stack facing up next to the Doomsday board (not facing down). You’ll always be able to see the top Level 2 Experiment card.
- As soon as a player takes an Experiment card, replace it with the top Level 2 Experiment card from the stack. Keep doing this until there are no more Experiment cards left in the stack.
- During the Preparation phase, do not place any Level 2 Experiment cards under the Timeline.
