When you’re in Apple Hill mode, you can use apples (Granny Smith – green, and Red Delicious – red) freely. It doesn’t matter who got them last – anyone can gain or spend them. When you gain apples, the value of the corresponding apple supply track goes up (up to a maximum of 6). On the other hand, when you spend apples, the value of the track goes down.
Remember: Apples are special resources and can’t be used as food, wood, or stone.
Apple Hill Actions
Get Apples
When I play the game, I get excited about a strategy that can help me earn more points. You see, there’s this supply board, and on it, there are Granny Smith (green) apples and Red Delicious (red) apples. These apples have a value that can go up, and I want to increase their value as much as possible. To do this, I need to look at the number of apple icons shown and add that number to the value of the apples on the board. But there’s a catch! I can only increase the value of each type of apple up to a maximum of 6.
It’s important to note that apples are a shared resource. So, if I don’t spend all the apples during my turn, they will stay on the board for other players to use. This means I need to be strategic and make sure I use as many apples as I can while still leaving enough for others.
One important action in the game is harvesting apples.
Hey there! Let’s talk about a fun game called Apple Hill Summit. We’ll explore how to play, and all the cool things you can do. Ready?
So, the objective of the game is to count the number of Granny Smith (green) and Red Delicious (red) apples on orchard cards along your trail. Oh, and don’t forget to increase the value of Granny Smith and/or Red Delicious apples on the apple supply board based on the number of apple icons shown. You can increase them by a maximum of 6 each, though!
But wait, there’s a note! It’s totally up to you whether you want to skip this action or not. It’s not mandatory, so no pressure.
Now, let’s move on to the Apple Hill Summit actions. Exciting stuff, right?
One of the actions you can take is called Apple Trade. It’s pretty self-explanatory – you get to trade apples! Cool, huh?
Hey there! Let me break it down for you. Spend apples of the colors and quantities shown to get the resources you need.
Note: If the apples are gray, it means color doesn’t matter. You can use apples from either track, in any combination.
The Apple Homestead
- When you move up on a homestead track, you get a reward:
- If you choose the Granny Smith track, perform the Fur Trade action.
- If you choose the Red Delicious track, gain 2 gold.
- If you can’t move up anymore on a track, leave your marker where it is and get the reward.
- The apple homestead tracks don’t have a limit on the number of players who can reach the top spaces.
Apple Hill Extra Scoring
You score points on the red and green apple homestead tracks the same way as the other tracks: Multiply the positions of your markers by your wagon’s position (read about Scoring above).
Woah! You’re ready to play the game!
You still need to check the functions of the different cabins, but don’t worry! We’ve put them in a reference section at the end of these rules for you.
By now, you’ve learned all the essential information about the Apple Hill mode. When you want to try a different mode, just follow the setup rules for that mode and read its specific rules section. This way, you can dive into Sierra West with a fresh perspective!
Guitar Boats
In Boats & Banjos, it’s impossible to catch fish if there are none available. Fish are viewed as valuable assets and not something found in abundance. This means that when I go out fishing, I can only catch fish if they are present in the supply.
Now, let’s talk about the different actions I can take in the game using boats and banjos. One of the actions is called panning.
Panning is an important fishing technique in Boats & Banjos. It involves using a boat to navigate through the water and find areas where fish may be present. By carefully scanning the surface of the water, I can identify regions where fish are likely to be found. Panning requires keen observation and patience as I search for signs of movement or disturbances indicating the presence of fish.
When I identify a potential fishing spot, I can cast my line and try to catch fish using my banjo. The banjo serves as a tool for attracting fish and enticing them to bite the hook. It creates an alluring sound that mimics the natural noises of their environment. This makes the fish curious and encourages them to investigate and potentially engage with the bait.
I then patiently wait and hope for a fish to take the bait. If I’m lucky, I’ll feel a tug on the line, indicating that a fish has bitten and is now hooked. This is an exciting moment, as it means I’m about to reel in a catch and add to my collection.
Overall, panning is a challenging yet rewarding aspect of fishing in Boats & Banjos. It requires skill, attention to detail, and a bit of luck to successfully catch fish and add them to my inventory. By practicing and honing my panning technique, I can increase my chances of finding fish and enjoy the thrill of the catch. So, if you’re a fan of fishing, you’ll definitely enjoy the fishing experience in Boats & Banjos.
So, here’s the deal. When I’m trekking along my trail, I make sure to snatch up the resource on the left side of each river card. It’s kind of a rule I go by. But hey, if there are no resources left on a card, I just keep moving.
Hey, check this out: If you ever come across a Banjo Hazard or Dueling Banjos, things get a little interesting.
Banjo Hazard & Dueling Banjos
If you encounter a banjo hazard, there are two ways to deal with it: either use the Dueling Banjos path action with your tan-path pioneer or take some damage.
Here’s the important part: you can only move your green-path pioneer past the banjo hazard if your tan-path pioneer is already using the Dueling Banjos path action. The Dueling Banjos action itself doesn’t do anything other than allowing your other pioneer to escape the banjo hazard.
Double Paddle, Single Paddle, Rapid Paddle:
When I’m canoeing in the game, I have a few different ways to move around on the river. It’s important to understand these actions so that I can make the best choices and navigate effectively.
The first action I can take is called the Single Paddle. With this action, I can move my canoe to an adjacent river card. This means I can go from one card to the next, or even move between the Fish Market tile and the first river card. It’s a simple and straightforward way to move along the river.
If I want to cover more ground with each move, I can choose the Double Paddle action. This action is like using two Single Paddle actions at once. It allows me to move my canoe a farther distance with each move. However, I have to remember that once I start a Double Paddle action, I can’t interrupt it with another action or save it for later use. It’s a bit more of a commitment, but it can be worth it when I need to make progress quickly.
For more flexibility, I can use the Rapid Paddle action. This action allows me to move my canoe to any River card or the Fish Market. It’s a powerful move that gives me the freedom to choose my destination more freely. However, I have to keep in mind that I can only move in one direction per use of the Rapid Paddle. It can’t be used to move back and forth between cards multiple times.
It’s important to note that I’m not limited to moving my canoe only along my trail. I can move my canoe onto any cards, even if they are not directly connected to my current position. This gives me the ability to explore different parts of the river and make strategic moves.
So when I’m playing the game, I have a few different options for moving my canoe. I can use the Single Paddle for simple moves, the Double Paddle for longer distances, or the Rapid Paddle for more flexibility. With these actions in mind, I can make the best choices and navigate the river effectively.
To get the fish on the river cards to the left of your canoe, you need to collect them. Don’t forget to take the card that your canoe is on as well.
Remember: There’s only a limited amount of fish. If there’s not enough of a specific fish when you Go Fish, just ignore the ones that aren’t available at the moment.
The Boat Banjos Summit
Get Fish for Your Boat
Just spend some of your basic resources, and you can get a fish of any color from the supply. You can do this as many times as you want.
Fishing at the Market
If your canoe is on the Fish Market tile during your Pioneering step, you have the option to trade fish for resources, depending on what the tile offers:
- Swap 1 fish for a resource of the same color
- Exchange 2 different fish for 1 gold
- Trade 3 different fish for 2 gold
- Swap 2 matching fish for 3 gold
- Exchange 3 matching fish for 4 gold
Note: Don’t worry about losing your fish! They go back to the supply, so you can get them again later if you need to.
Setting up the River Cards
Every time a new river card is added to the river, we need to provide it with resources. To accomplish this, you should examine the card and place the resource tokens in the same order from left to right as they appear on the card.
Boats and Banjos Extra Scoring
There are no additional points awarded in this mode.
Note: Unused fish do not grant any points, and the position of your canoe has no impact once the game is over.
Gold Rush
Did you know that mine carts have a limited supply of gold? Once they run out, there’s no way to get more. And once gold is placed in a mine cart, it can’t be taken out.
Ways to Get Gold in a Rush
Mining
In today’s lesson, we’re going to talk about an interesting game mechanic called “Mining.” Have you ever played a game where you have to mine for resources? Well, in this game, mining is an action that allows you to exchange gold for other valuable items. Let me explain how it works.
When someone says “Mining Action,” what comes to mind? Do you think of going deep underground, digging for precious metals? Well, in this game, it’s a bit different. The Mining Action is actually a way to exchange your gold for something else. Let me show you how it works.
When you decide to use the Mining Action, you grab a special six-sided die, also known as a “D6.” The D6 is numbered from 1 to 6, and each number corresponds to a different outcome. Here’s what happens depending on the number you roll:
– If you roll a 1 or 2, you get to exchange 1 gold piece.
– If you roll a 2 or 3, you get to exchange 2 gold pieces.
– And if you roll a 5 or 6, you get to exchange 3 gold pieces.
It’s pretty simple, right? You just roll the die and exchange your gold based on the result. But there’s a catch: if the number of gold pieces you’re supposed to exchange is more than what you have, you can only exchange what you have. Any excess gold is ignored.
So, let’s say you roll a 5 and you’re supposed to exchange 3 gold pieces. But you only have 2 gold pieces. In that case, you would exchange your 2 gold pieces and ignore the extra 1 gold piece.
Now, here’s something important to remember. When you use the Mining Action, it only affects the gold you exchange. Any gold you already had before using the Mining Action is not affected. So, if you had 5 gold pieces and you roll a 2, you would exchange 2 gold pieces and still keep your other 3 gold pieces.
Now that you understand how the Mining Action works, let’s move on to the next exciting part of the game: gaining the Lantern. Stay tuned!
Hey there! Let’s talk about a cool game called “Lantern Card.” In this game, you can do something pretty neat – take the lantern card! You can get this card from the supply or even from another player. Now, what can you do with this lantern card, you may wonder?
Well, if you have the lantern card and you decide to use a Mining action, something great happens! You get extra gold pieces! How cool is that? These extra gold pieces are actually shown on the “dark mine” cards along your trail. It’s like finding hidden treasures in the dark!
But hold on a second! I gotta tell you something important. If you already have the lantern card, using this Mining action won’t make a difference. You won’t get any extra gold pieces. So make sure you don’t waste your action if you already have the lantern card, okay?
Now, here’s a little secret. The lantern card is actually worth 3 points at the end of the game. So, if you manage to grab the lantern card, it might just give you an advantage over other players. Keep that in mind!
Load a Mine Cart
Hey there! Did you know that you can choose one of your mine carts and put either 1 or 2 gold in it? Pretty cool, right? Oh, and by the way, each cart can only hold a maximum of 2 gold. But here’s the best part – the gold in your carts is actually worth 3 points at the end of the game, instead of just 1 point. Talk about a sweet deal!
Now, I have a little heads-up for you: once you load gold into a mine cart, you can’t spend it or take it out. It has to stay in the cart until the end of the game. But trust me, it’s totally worth it because those extra points can really make a difference.
Ready to unleash the dynamite?
If you get the dynamite card (from the supply or another player), you can trade 2 stone for 1 gold. You can do this as much as you want during your Pioneering Step.
Remember: If you already have the dynamite card, this doesn’t change anything. At the end of the game, the dynamite card is worth 3 points if you have it.
Actions at the Gold Rush Summit
Get a Mine Cart
Hey there! So, here’s what you gotta do: use the resources I’m about to tell you to get a mine cart from the supply (if we have any) and put it by your player board. Once it’s there, you can use it when you take the Load Mine Cart action.
Super Cool Scoring in the Gold Rush
- Each gold piece on a mine cart is gonna get you 3 points, instead of just 1 point. Oh, and just so you know, empty mine carts don’t count for anything.
- Now, the dynamite and lantern cards are each worth 3 points. So they’re pretty valuable.
Outlaws and Outposts
In the wild West game of “Outlaws and Frontiersmen,” there are 10 to 12 outlaws lurking on the outposts. As you eliminate these outlaws, each card that gets uncovered gets flipped over and placed in a row below, like a poster with better shooting odds.
Once you have managed to remove the final outlaw from the mountain, the outpost card marked with a “V” is revealed and added to the row. Additionally, five extra outlaws from the supply are placed on the mountain base. It’s important to note that you don’t have to eliminate all the outlaws to end the game. The game still ends as soon as the final special card is added to the row.
When you eliminate outlaws, you earn points based on a multiplier determined by your wagon’s position. For instance, if you have four outlaws and your wagon is at the x3 space, you gain 12 points.
Keep in mind: The frontiersmen on the mountain base are not affected by the newly added outlaws. This means that they do not cause players to take damage, and so on.
Fierce Rebels and Remote Hideouts: Taking Bold Action
Picture this: you’re a daring adventurer exploring a world filled with danger and intrigue. You’re faced with a choice – how do you proceed? Well, let me tell you about an incredible option called Outlaws and Outposts Path Actions.
Unleashing Your Inner Wild West
When I think about Outlaws and Outposts, the first thing that comes to mind is boldness. These path actions offer you a way to gain Bullets – a valuable resource in your journeys. But what exactly are they?
Bullets are like a secret currency in this vast landscape. They have the power to unlock new paths and access hidden treasures, and they can be used to confront enemies head-on or negotiate with them – it’s up to you how you want to wield this power.
Seizing Opportunities
By using Outlaws, you’ll be able to tap into your rebellious side. The world will become your playground, and you’ll have the chance to stir up trouble, gather information, and gain the upper hand in unexpected ways.
On the other hand, Outposts give you a chance to experience the wild beauty of hidden areas. You’ll stumble upon mesmerizing landscapes, encounter unique characters, and unveil the secrets of these remote locations. It’s all about exploring the unknown.
The Power is in Your Hands
So, are you ready to embrace your inner outlaw or embark on a journey to a hidden outpost? With Outlaws and Outposts Path Actions, the choice is yours. Trust me, it’s an adventure like no other.
Remember, the path you take is entirely up to you. Do you want to provoke, persuade, or explore? The decision is yours, and it’ll shape the course of your thrilling expedition.
New Sheriff
I am about to embark on a new adventure and take on a new role. I am the new sheriff in town, tasked with upholding the law and maintaining peace and order. It’s an important responsibility, one that I take seriously.
As the new sheriff, I am known as the enforcer of justice. But it’s not just about catching criminals and putting them behind bars. There’s more to it than that. It’s about building trust with the community, earning their respect, and making them feel safe.
One of the key aspects of being a sheriff is understanding the needs of the community. I need to be aware of the challenges they face and the issues that affect them. By listening to their concerns and taking them into account, I can better serve and protect them.
Interpreting the law is another crucial part of the job. It’s not always black and white, and there are often gray areas that require careful consideration. I must navigate through these complexities and make fair and just decisions. It’s about finding the balance between enforcing the law and showing compassion.
Being the new sheriff can be both exciting and daunting. There’s a lot to learn and a lot of responsibility on my shoulders. But I am ready for the challenge. I am committed to serving the community and making a positive difference in people’s lives.
If you’re looking for someone who will take the job seriously and have your best interests at heart, then you’ll love having me as your new sheriff. I will work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the community.
With these factors in mind, I am confident that I can fulfill the duties of the sheriff and make a meaningful impact. I am excited to start this new chapter and begin serving the community. Together, we can build a safer and stronger town.
When I have the Sheriff card, I get a little boost – I add 1 to the number I roll on the dice for the Six-Shooter action. If I manage to capture an outlaw using the Six-Shooter or Rifle action, I even earn 1 gold. It’s like a little bonus for being the Sheriff.
But here’s the thing, if I already have the Sheriff card, these actions don’t give me any extra advantage. It’s like I’ve already maxed out on the benefits. The Sheriff card is pretty valuable on its own though – at the end of the game, it’s worth 3 points. So even if I don’t get any bonuses from the actions, having the Sheriff card is still a good deal.
Now, let’s talk about the Outlaws and Outposts Summit Actions. Specifically, I want to focus on the Six-Shooter action. It’s a pretty important one.
Hey there, partner! Let’s talk about a nifty game called “Bullet Bounty.” Here’s how it works:
First off, you’ll need some bullets. You can spend them one at a time. Whenever you spend a bullet, you’re gonna roll a six-sided die. Now, if the number you roll matches any of the faces on your trail, you get to remove and capture one of them outlaws from the lowest-numbered card on the board. Yeehaw!
And get this, if you’ve got the Sheriff card, it’s gonna give you a little boost. You add 1 to every result you roll on that dice. Howdy, advantage!
But watch out! If you manage to capture the last bad guy on an outpost, that outpost is gonna drop down to the next row on the board, with the wanted poster showing. Now, if you managed to nab an outlaw with your six-shooter, you can’t use it again to go after another bandit. Gotta play by the rules, partner.
Now, here’s the kicker – if you weren’t successful in capturing an outlaw, either because you’ve run out of bullets or you made a choice to stop, you’ve gotta take some damage. Ouch! No pain, no gain, I reckon.
Rifle
Let’s talk about rifles. Rifles are these fascinating weapons that have a long history and are still used widely today. When you think of a rifle, what comes to your mind? Maybe it’s the image of a soldier on a battlefield or a hunter in the woods. Well, rifles are indeed used in both military and recreational settings. They are versatile tools that can be used for various purposes. But what makes rifles so special? Let me break it down for you.
First of all, rifles are known for their accuracy. Unlike other firearms, rifles are designed to have a longer barrel, which helps to stabilize the bullet as it exits the barrel. This, in turn, allows for greater precision when aiming at a target. Imagine being able to hit the bullseye every time you shoot. That’s the kind of accuracy that rifles offer.
Another aspect that sets rifles apart is their range. Rifles can shoot bullets at a much greater distance compared to handguns or shotguns. This makes them ideal for situations where you need to engage targets from a distance. Whether it’s a military operation or a hunting expedition, rifles provide the advantage of reaching targets that are far away. This gives you the ability to stay out of harm’s way while still being effective.
Now, let’s talk about power. Rifles pack quite a punch when it comes to firepower. Their bullets are larger and more powerful than those fired from handguns or shotguns. This gives them the ability to penetrate objects and deliver significant damage. With a rifle in your hands, you can take down pretty much anything that stands in your way. It’s like having a force multiplier at your disposal.
Of course, with great power comes great responsibility. Rifles can be dangerous if mishandled or used improperly. It’s crucial to always prioritize safety and follow proper procedures when handling firearms. This means being mindful of your surroundings, keeping your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, and storing your rifle securely when not in use. Remember, with great power comes great responsibility.
In conclusion, rifles are more than just weapons. They are precision instruments that offer accuracy, range, and power. Whether you’re a soldier, a hunter, or simply someone interested in firearms, rifles have a lot to offer. Just remember to handle them with care and responsibility. With a rifle in your hands, you’ll have the ability to hit your targets with precision and force. So, if you’re looking for a versatile and reliable tool, consider choosing a rifle. You won’t be disappointed.
Getting Extra Points in Outlaws and Outpost
- I’ll multiply the number of outlaws you catch by where your wagon is. Let’s say you catch 3 outlaws, and your wagon is on the “4x” spot. You’ll earn 12 points!
- Oh, and don’t forget about the Sheriff card – that one’s worth 3 points all on its own.
