Get Ready for a Fun Adventure: The Great River Game!
Hello there! Are you excited for an amazing adventure? I know I am! I’m here to introduce you to an awesome game called The Great River Game. It’s a thrilling experience that you won’t want to miss out on. So put on your explorer hat and let’s dive in!
In The Great River Game, you’ll find yourself in a world full of wonders and challenges. The goal of the game is simple: navigate through a vast river and reach the treasure hidden at the end. But wait, it’s not as easy as it sounds!
The river is filled with obstacles and surprises at every turn. You’ll encounter treacherous rapids, swirling whirlpools, and tricky currents. It’s like nature’s very own obstacle course! But don’t worry, I believe in you. With a little patience, strategy, and some quick thinking, you’ll conquer them all.
Now, let’s talk about the rules. To navigate the river, you have a trusty boat at your disposal. You’ll control the boat using your arrow keys: up to paddle forward, down to paddle backward, and left or right to steer. It’s just like being a real captain, exploring uncharted waters!
As you progress through the game, you’ll come across treasure chests scattered along the river. Make sure to grab them! They contain valuable items that will help you on your journey. You might find a magical compass that shows you the way, or a powerful paddle that boosts your speed. Keep your eyes peeled for these treasures!
But beware, my friend. The river is also home to mischievous creatures. You might encounter some playful dolphins or sneaky crocodiles. They won’t harm you, but they might try to slow you down. Stay alert and navigate around them to keep your momentum.
Remember, the key to success in The Great River Game is to stay focused and keep moving forward. Don’t let the challenges discourage you. Every obstacle you overcome brings you closer to the ultimate reward – the hidden treasure at the end of the river.
I hope you’re as excited as I am to embark on this thrilling adventure. Get ready to test your skills, embrace the unknown, and discover the wonders of The Great River Game. Good luck, adventurer!
The powerful river originates in the mountains, meanders through the hills, and eventually forms a delta in the swamp before reaching the sea. This river is abundant in gold, which can be found along its banks.
Everyone wants to construct roads, settlements, and cities along the river to collect the precious gold and gain bonus victory points.
Let’s introduce some new elements to the game:
You’ll need all the regular components from the Settlers of Catan game, with the exception of 1 mountain, 1 hill, and 1 desert tile.
New additions include a 3-hex connected Great River tile and 8 Victory Point Tokens.
Here’s how you set up the game:
First, place the River tile so that the two sides with water hexes are at the edge of the island, closest to the sea.
Next, build the rest of the island using the remaining tiles.
Now, place the number tokens as you normally would. However, do not place a number token on the swamp hex.
When I start the game, I find myself in the swamp. I can’t build my starting settlements next to the swamp hex, which makes things a bit tricky.
Fortunately, I can still build roads across the river as usual. It’s my way of connecting with other players and expanding my territory.
Here’s what you need to know:
Most of the basic rules remain the same. The river-hill and river-mountain hexes still produce ore and brick, just like in the regular game.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. Each road that runs along the edge of a river hex is worth 1 gold point (GP). Cool, right?
But it gets better. Each settlement or city that sits on a corner of a river hex is also worth 1 GP. And if you manage to build a settlement or city right on the swamp at the tip of the delta, where the gold nugget is, it’s worth a whopping 2 GPs!
Now, don’t go thinking you’ll get extra GPs for upgrading a river settlement to a river city. That doesn’t earn you any additional points, unfortunately.
But here’s the good news: for every 3 GPs I collect, I get a victory point (VP) token. And the more victory points I have, the closer I am to winning the game.
To win the game:
All I need to do is be the first player to reach 12 VPs. It’s not going to be easy, but with strategy, skill, and a little bit of luck, I know I can do it. Are you ready to join me on this exciting riverside adventure?
Being a Sailor
If you decide to become a sailor and have your ship parked on the edges of the Delta, you can earn yourself 1 GP. However, there’s a catch: you’ll only get the GP if your ship remains stationary. If you choose to move your ship away from the Delta, you lose the GP. And not only that, losing the GP can even cost you a valuable Victory Point (VP) if it brings your total GPs below a multiple of 3.
To make the scenario more challenging, you need to increase the number of VPs required to win by 2. It’s worth considering this adjustment when planning your strategy.
Cities and Knights
Did you know that Knights are worth zero Victory Points (VPs), even if you build them on river hexes? It’s true! And here’s an interesting tidbit: the same applies to roads removed by a “Diplomat” card in the Seafarers expansion.
Now, let’s talk about the Victory Points needed to win. To make the game more challenging, you need to increase the number of VPs required by two. This adds an extra level of strategy and difficulty, forcing you to really think about your moves.
