You’ve been playing the game for a while now, and you’re starting to crave a new challenge. That’s where Expert Mode comes in. It’s only for those players who have truly mastered the Classic mode and are looking to spice things up.

Expert Mode brings a longer gameplay experience, with 5 rounds instead of 4.

Let me explain how Expert Mode is set up and what changes in the gameplay.

Setting Up for Expert Mode

To start Expert Mode, follow the same setup as the Classic mode, but with a few exceptions:

Player Mat

Hey there! Let me explain how to use your Player Mat like a pro.

So, the city is made up of 5 Districts, each with its own unique background. Pretty cool, right?

Now, here’s the nitty-gritty: each District is divided into 4 squares, and guess what? Each square has its own number. Keep that in mind, it’s important!

When it’s time to add a Building to your city, you have a couple of options:

  • You can place it on an empty square that matches the number of the Architect you played. Simple as that!
  • Or, you can place it on an empty square in the District that matches the number of the Architect you played. The choice is yours!

Now let’s talk about these Architects

When it comes to playing the game, we all start with a common pool of Architects. The Architects are these special pieces that we can use to build our structures. We have different numbers of Architects, and they all have a gray-colored side. You’re going to love this game – it’s all about strategy and planning!

Now, here’s the deal: we need to make sure that each player has at least one Architect of each number. So, if there are two of us playing, we each get two Architects #1, two Architects #2, and so on. And don’t worry about the Architects we don’t use – we’ll just put them back in the box.

Here’s the best part: the Architects don’t belong to any specific player. So, on your turn, you can simply choose one from the available options. And if you see that there are multiple Architects with the same number, you can even play them all at once, as long as your opponents don’t take them first!

Now, here’s something important to remember: just like in the Classic Mode, we have four turns each round. And since we have a limited number of turns, some Architects might not get used. At the end of the round, there will be as many Architects remaining as there are players.

After every round, I’ll put all the Architects back in the pool so we can start the next round fresh. They’ll be right next to the Construction Site, ready for action.

Now, let’s talk about the Buildings. In this round, we’ll introduce two new types of Buildings. We’ll replace the ones with a “Classic” back with Buildings that have an “Expert” back. These new Buildings will give us even more options and opportunities to unleash our architectural creativity.

Speaking of Expert Buildings, let’s start with the Office Towers. They are tall and majestic, towering over the city skyline. With their sleek design and sprawling spaces, they are perfect for housing large corporations and bustling businesses. Imagine the hustle and bustle happening inside those walls!

Now, let’s get ready to dive into this new round and explore the possibilities these Expert Buildings bring. It’s time to turn our architectural dreams into reality!

So here’s the deal: Office Towers are pretty important because they can score you victory points (VPs). The amount of VPs you get depends on how tall the Towers are and whether they are next to each other or not.

  • When activating an Office Tower, you need 1 Inhabitant and 1 Energy Unit.
  • You can build up to 5 floors in the tower. Any floor after the first can be constructed with an Architect that has the corresponding number.
For example:

I have three Office Towers right next to each other.

So now, I have to look at the third line in this table to figure out my score. Two of my Office Towers have two floors and they’re worth 5 VPs each. But the third one, it has three floors and scores me 9 VPs.

So, when you add it all up, my final score for my Office Towers is 19 VPs. That’s 5 VPs for each of the first two Towers, and 9 for the third.

Monuments

When I’m playing a game, I always look for ways to score more points and get ahead of my opponents. One of the ways to do that in the game I’m currently playing is by strategically placing my Monuments next to certain Buildings. You see, in this game, Monuments earn Victory Points (VPs) when they are next to specific Buildings.

Let me break it down for you. Monuments are these special structures that I can build in the game. They can be different shapes and sizes, but they all have one thing in common: they’re important. Monuments bring prestige and fame to my civilization, and when I place them strategically next to certain Buildings, they generate a response. That response is a bunch of Victory Points.

Now, let’s talk about these Buildings. Buildings are structures that I can construct in my civilization. They can be anything from houses to markets to farms. These Buildings have their own unique attributes and perks. Some of them have specific requirements, while others have certain abilities. But the important thing to know is that when I position my Monuments next to these Buildings, I score Victory Points. It’s like a symbiotic relationship between the Monuments and the Buildings.

So, why is this important? Well, Victory Points are like gold in this game. The more Victory Points I have, the closer I am to winning. They are a measure of my civilization’s success and progress. But here’s the thing: Victory Points are not easy to come by. I have to work for them. I have to think strategically and plan my moves carefully. And one of the strategies I employ is placing my Monuments strategically next to the right Buildings.

By doing this, I not only score Victory Points, but I also elevate the status of my Monuments. People look at my civilization and admire the synergy I’ve created between the Monuments and the Buildings. They appreciate the beauty and functionality of my civilization, and that’s a win in itself.

So, if you’re playing this game or any game that involves Monuments and Buildings, remember the importance of strategic placement. Consider the unique attributes of your Monuments and the requirements and abilities of your Buildings. Find those perfect spots where your Monuments can generate a response and earn you those valuable Victory Points. By doing so, you’ll not only be closer to winning the game but also be admired for your clever strategy and skillful gameplay.

  • In the game, each player has their own Monument to play with.
  • There is one Monument given per round, except for the first round. In two-player games, there are no monuments in rounds 1, 4, and 5. In three-player games, there are no monuments in rounds 1 and 5.
  • The Monuments do not have to be activated in order to score points.
  • You cannot stack Monuments on top of each other.

Expert Scoring

The scoring for buildings works the same as in the Classic Mode. However, because the players’ cities are bigger and there are new Architects, Tower Blocks, Public Services, and Harbors can earn more Victory Points than in the Classic Mode. Shops can attract more Customers, and Parks and Factories have interactions with the new Office Tower Buildings as well.
