Playing Suburbia Solo: A Guide

So you’ve heard about Suburbia, the popular board game where players compete to build the best city. And now you’re curious about playing it solo? Look no further! I’ll walk you through the game rules and everything you need to know to enjoy a fun and challenging solo experience.

Setup

First things first, let’s set up the game. Place the main game board in the center of your playing area. Make sure you have all the tiles, markers, and reference cards handy.

Now, grab the solo goal cards and shuffle them. Flip over the top three cards and place them face-up next to the main game board. These cards will guide your objectives in the solo game.

Next, you’ll need to choose a player board. Each player board represents a different suburb. Pick the one that resonates with you the most. Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore other suburbs in future games.

Choose a difficulty level. If you’re new to the game or prefer a more relaxed experience, start with the Beginner difficulty. If you’re up for a challenge, choose Advanced. The Expert difficulty is for seasoned players looking to test their skills.

Now it’s time to grab your starting tiles. The number of tiles you get depends on the difficulty level you chose. Place these tiles facedown in front of you. You’re now ready to start building your suburb!

Objective

The goal of Suburbia solo is to create the most prosperous and well-balanced suburb. You’ll achieve this by strategically adding tiles to your suburb, managing your resources, and fulfilling the objectives on the solo goal cards.

Gameplay

On your turn, you have three main actions to choose from: Buy, Take a Tile, or Pass. These actions will allow you to gradually expand your suburb and accumulate income, reputation, and population.

When you buy a tile, you’ll pay its cost, place it in your suburb, and follow its effects. Each tile represents a different building or improvement that will impact your suburb in various ways.

If you decide to take a tile from the marketplace, you’ll add it to your hand. This can be a good option if you’re not ready to buy a tile or if you want to save up resources for a better purchase in the future.

If you choose to pass, you’ll receive income and reputation based on the position of your population marker on the income and reputation track. Passing strategically can boost your income and reputation, but be careful not to fall behind!

Throughout the game, you’ll need to manage your income, reputation, and population wisely. You’ll also need to keep an eye on the solo goal cards and work towards fulfilling their objectives.

Scoring

In Suburbia solo, your score is based on the income, reputation, and population of your suburb, as well as the objectives you’ve completed. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.

Now that you know the game rules, it’s time to dive into the world of Suburbia solo. Will you be able to create the most successful suburb and outdo your own expectations? There’s only one way to find out – let the solo building frenzy begin!

Welcome to the thrilling world of multiplayer gaming, now condensed into an action-packed 30-minute adventure! It’s just like the 2-player game, but with a twist – you only need one Borough Board. How cool is that?

Getting Started

Setting up is a breeze – simply use the 2-player tile stacks setup. The only difference is that you won’t be placing or distributing any goals. Easy peasy!

Let the Games Begin

Gameplay is intense, so brace yourself! Moving past a Red Line brings excitement and a sense of achievement. You’ll feel like a champion. Check out these images for an idea of what awaits you:

Once your turn is over, it’s time to bring out your strategic skills. You have to remove an additional tile, following the same rules as if you had placed an Investment Marker or a basic tile. Challenge accepted!

Meet Dale the Bot

In this super cool solo game, you’ll be going head-to-head against Dale, the bot. He might not have any emotions or friends, but he’s always ready to play with you. And guess what? You get to go first each round because, well, Dale doesn’t mind. It’s game on!

Time for You

It’s your turn now—time to make some decisions! Just follow the normal rules of the game. Remember, the three tiles that weren’t bought will stay in the Real Estate Market without moving.

Time for Dale

Dale, well, he may not be the smartest player, but he does have a few advantages. Here are the rules Dale plays by:

  • On each turn, Dale buys the most expensive tile available. But here’s the catch: he only pays $3 for it! And if there are multiple tiles with the same price, he’ll go for the one on the left.
  • Dale never settles for basic tiles, creates lakes, or uses Investment Markers. Not his style.
  • When it’s time to place the purchased tile, Dale looks for the spot that will give him the biggest boost in Reputation and Income—both numbers matter, but if there’s a tie, Reputation takes the lead.
  • If you follow the rule above, you can place the tile on any valid space.
  • After I buy a tile, place it, and adjust my Income and Reputation, the two remaining tiles in the Real Estate Market are discarded.

Next Round

Four new tiles are placed in the Real Estate Market on spaces worth $6, $4, $2, and $0 (leftmost).

Game End

When the 1 More Round tile appears, the game ends immediately. You don’t take another turn, but instead go directly to goal scoring and Population-for-money scoring.
