Optional Rules for GoodCritters

GoodCritters Optional Rules

Hey there! I’m here to tell you all about some cool optional rules you can use to spice up your game of GoodCritters. These rules aren’t necessary, but they can add an extra layer of fun and strategy to your heist.

First up, we have the Double-Dealing rule. This rule allows the Boss to secretly double-cross another player during the Choose Your Role phase. It adds a lot of suspense and uncertainty to the game. You never know who you can trust!

Next, we have the Underdog rule. This rule gives a bonus to players who have the fewest coins at the end of a round. It’s a way to level the playing field and give everyone a chance to catch up. It can really change the dynamic of the game and keep things interesting.

Another optional rule is the Vendetta rule. With this rule, players can hold a grudge against another player and target them specifically during the Loot Distribution phase. It adds a personal element to the game and can lead to some intense rivalries.

Lastly, we have the Price Control rule. This rule allows players to manipulate the value of the loot cards during the Loot Distribution phase. It adds a strategic element to the game and gives players more control over their fate.

I highly recommend trying out these optional rules if you’re looking to take your game of GoodCritters to the next level. They add a whole new dimension of fun and excitement. Just remember, these rules are optional, so feel free to mix and match or come up with your own variations. The most important thing is to have a blast heisting with your friends!

Hey there! So once you’ve got the hang of GoodCritters and you’re feeling like adding a little extra fun to the game, you can try out these optional rules:

Payoffs

With this variant, each player starts with two Payoff tokens and five Payoff cards.

Your Payoff cards are separate from your Stash, so nobody can take them with a Rob Action card. And here’s the really exciting part – at the end of the game, each Payoff card is worth a whopping $1,000!

Giving Bribes

When we’re playing the game, we have the option to offer bribes to other players in order to get them to do what we want. We can use bribes to try to influence their votes, make them rob another player, protect our stash, and more. We can even try to convince the Boss to give us more Loot.

Our bribes can include various things, like promising to do something in the future, offering a favor, or giving them Loot cards or Payoff cards. When using Loot cards in a bribe, we can either show them to everyone or keep them hidden by playing them face-down.

If we choose to play the cards face-down, we can let the player take a sneak peek at them or keep them a mystery (“I’ll give you this secret Loot card. Trust me, it’s worth $4,000!”).

Receiving a Payoff

Here’s the thing about bribes: they don’t follow any rules in the game. It means that players can cheat, trick, or lie as much as they want. It’s like a free pass to do whatever they please.

But if you want some assurance for your favor, you can offer a Payoff.

When we’re playing this game, each of us has two special tokens called Payoff tokens. These tokens are like little treasures that we can use to make deals with other players. To make a deal, I can give one of my Payoff tokens to another player, and I can also give them some of the cards I have collected called Loot cards, or even more Payoff cards if I want.

Let’s say I want to get more Payoff cards for myself. If I don’t have any more Payoff cards, I can ask another player if they will sell me some. In exchange for the extra Payoff cards, I can offer them some of my Loot cards from my own collection. It’s kind of like trading in a store, but we get to decide how much the Payoff cards are worth.

At the end of the game, each Payoff card is worth $1000, but during the game, we can talk to each other and work out our own prices. It’s all about making deals and negotiating with the other players. So remember, those Payoff tokens are really important in the game, and they give us a lot of power to make things happen!

Each Payoff token has two sides: one says Yes and the other says No. The side that is visible determines the action the other player has to take in order to receive the Payoff.

If the player chooses a different action, they can’t take the bribe, and the cards go back to the person who offered the bribe. However, the owner always gets their Payoff token back.

Bribes are settled right after the player reveals their Action card during Step 4 – Count the Votes.

Because you have two Payoff tokens, you can offer bribes to two players every round.

Once all the bribes are done, the players put their Loot cards into their Stash and set their Payoff cards aside (the bills can’t be stolen with a Rob card, so they don’t go in the Stash).

When the game is over, you add Payoff cards to your Stash. These cards are important because they determine the winner of the game. After adding the Payoff cards, you count your loot to see who has the most and wins the game!

Understanding Limited Boss Terms

Sometimes, when there’s a really charming player, they can become the Boss and dominate the game. To make sure everyone gets a shot, we limit the Boss to just three rounds.

After the third round, even if the vote passes, the title of Boss moves on to the next player in a clockwise direction. And as a little reward for their cleverness, the previous Boss gets an extra Loot card from the top of the pile.

If the Loot card they draw is The Fun! card, they get to draw another Loot card as their bonus. And that’s when the game ends right away.

Now, if you already know the game well, you can mix things up. Instead of separating the Loot pile, randomly add The Fuzz! card to it. Depending on where you place it, closer to the top or bottom, you can make the game shorter or longer.

Oh, and before we finish, let me tell you about the Promo Cards.

Promo cards are special cards that you can get at game conventions, local game stores, or purchase on the website: http://shop.arcanewonders.com/. If you have a Promo card, it might have a special ability written on it. These abilities are usually only usable once.

Treat Promo cards just like any other Loot item. They get shuffled into the Loot Pile and are not given out at the start of the game. If you get a Promo card, add it to your Stash like you would with any other card.

The text on the card will tell you when you can use the ability. When you want to use it, take the card out of your Stash and show it to the other players. Once you’ve used it, set it aside. It won’t go back into your Stash for the rest of the game, but it still counts towards your total score. You just can’t use its special ability anymore.
