Objective

I’m excited to explain to you the fantastic rules of the game Ubongo Extreme. It’s all about challenging your brain and having a blast while doing it! Your main objective in this game is to solve as many puzzle boards as you can within the time limit.

Setup

Before we jump into the game, let’s make sure we understand the setup. You’ll need a game board, a set of tiles, a timer, and puzzle boards. Each player will also need their own puzzle board. Make sure everyone has enough space to work comfortably without peeping at each other’s boards, as honesty is key in this game!

Gameplay

When the timer starts, it’s go time! Flip over a puzzle board to reveal the shape you need to create with your tiles. Then, begin placing your tiles on your own puzzle board to match the shape shown. Remember, each shape must be completely filled with tiles. Don’t leave any empty spaces!

It’s important to note that you may need to rotate and flip the tiles to make them fit correctly. This adds an extra challenge to the game, but don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it!

If you manage to fill your puzzle board correctly and within the time limit, shout “Ubongo!” to let everyone know you’ve solved it. Then, flip the timer to stop it.

Once the timer stops, it’s time to compare your progress. Take a look at everyone’s puzzle boards and count how many shapes each player has correctly filled. The player with the most shapes wins the round!

Scoring

Scoring in Ubongo Extreme is easy. For each correctly filled shape, you earn one point. If there’s a tie in the number of shapes filled, the fastest player to shout “Ubongo!” wins the tiebreaker.

When you play this game, you and the other players each get a set of ten tiles. At the beginning of each round, we each get a new puzzle card.

When the round starts, we all try to cover the light-colored area on our puzzle cards with the right tiles. We have to make sure none of the tiles stick out of the area.

If I’m the first person to finish my puzzle, I shout “Ubongo!” and start counting down from 20. The rest of you keep working on your puzzles.

Object of the Game

If you solve your puzzle before the countdown ends, you earn one victory point. Keep the puzzle card you solved off to the side to show your earned point.

The round ends when the countdown ends. If you didn’t solve the puzzle in time, you don’t earn any points. Give your puzzle card to the first player as an additional victory point.

The player with the most victory points after eight rounds wins.

Setup

Take the 32 puzzle cards from the box. Each puzzle card has two levels of difficulty. The A sides have easy puzzles that need three tiles to solve.

When it comes to these puzzle tiles, there are two sets to choose from: the A sides and the B sides. The A sides are a great option if you’re new to these puzzles and want to start with something easier. They have three tiles that you need to match up to solve the puzzle. The B sides, on the other hand, are a bit more challenging. They require four tiles to solve the puzzle.

In my game, I need different amounts of puzzle cards based on how many people are playing:

– If there are 2 players, I need 16 puzzle cards.

– If there are 3 players, I need 24 puzzle cards.

– If there are 4 players, I need 32 puzzle cards.

If I’m playing with less than four people, I can put the extra cards back in the box.

Now, I’ll flip all the puzzle cards I need for my game so that the side with my chosen difficulty level is facing down. I’ll shuffle them up and put the stack in the middle of the table. I want to keep the puzzles hidden at first.

Each player gets ten shape tiles. If there aren’t four players, I’ll put the extra tiles back in the box.

Playing the Game

When you play this game, it lasts for eight rounds. Each round, you solve a puzzle by using the tiles shown on the card. In the first round, you use the tiles that are in the upper-left corner of the card.

Then, in the second round, you use the tiles from the upper-right corner. After that, you move on to the tiles in the lower-left corner, and finally, the lower-right corner.

When you reach the fifth round, you go back to using the tiles from the upper-left corner and continue in the same pattern until you reach the eighth round, where you use the tiles from the lower-right corner.

How to Play the Puzzle Game

Let’s talk about how to play this awesome puzzle game! It’s a fun and challenging activity that you’re definitely going to enjoy. Here’s what you need to do:

First, I’m going to give each of you a puzzle card. This card has a difficulty level on it. We’re all going to turn our cards over at the same time, so get ready!

Once the cards are turned over, it’s time to start. Your goal is to fit the tiles into the light-colored placement area on your puzzle card. This is where the challenge comes in. You have to make sure that the tiles cover the entire area and don’t stick out over the edges or overlap with other tiles.

Don’t worry, though! You can rotate and flip the tiles to make them fit. Be creative and find different ways to solve the puzzle. It’s all about using your problem-solving skills and having fun!

When one of us finishes our puzzle, we shout “Ubongo!” and start counting down. If we’re using the easy puzzles, we count from 20 to zero. If we’re using the harder ones, we count from 30 to zero. Of course, we can agree on a different countdown number if we want.

Whoever finishes their puzzle first gets to keep their card as a victory point. The rest of us keep playing while they count down. If any of us finish our puzzle before the countdown ends, we get to keep our card as a victory point too.

When the countdown reaches zero, everyone has to stop. If I didn’t finish my puzzle, I have to give my cards to the person who solved their puzzle first. These cards are worth points at the end of the game.

A Fresh Start

Now we all take a new card and try to solve our puzzles as quickly as possible.

The End

The game is over after eight rounds, which is when we run out of puzzle cards. Each of us counts our puzzle cards, and each card is worth a point.

The person with the most points wins. If there’s a tie, we play one more round.

We take the top puzzle card from the person on our left and use the tiles shown in the upper-right corners.

In the final round of the game, the player who finishes first is the winner.

Solo Play Option

If you want to play Ubongo Extreme by yourself, you’ll need a clock or stopwatch.

See how many puzzle cards you can complete in five, ten, or twenty minutes. You can also time yourself to see how long it takes to complete five, ten, or twenty puzzles.

If you get stuck on a puzzle card, set it aside and draw a new one.

Keep track of your results and try to beat your previous record each time you play.

Added Challenge

Follow the instructions for eight rounds as explained before. However, only the first player to complete the puzzle in each round gets to keep their puzzle card as a victory point.
