Welcome to the Top Speed Game
I’m excited for you to begin playing the Top Speed Game! It’s an awesome game that will challenge you and test your speed skills. But first, let me explain how to play.
Objective: The objective of the game is simple – to answer a series of questions as quickly as possible. The faster you answer correctly, the more points you will earn.
Gameplay: The game consists of multiple rounds, and each round has a time limit. When a round starts, a question will appear on the screen along with multiple choice answers. You need to select the correct answer before the time runs out. If you answer correctly, you move on to the next question. If you answer incorrectly, you lose a life, and the game continues with the next question.
Lives: At the start of the game, you have three lives. You will lose a life with each incorrect answer. If you lose all your lives, the game ends. However, if you answer all questions correctly within the time limit, you will earn a bonus life.
Scoring: Your score in the Top Speed Game is based on two factors – the number of questions you answer correctly and the time it takes you to answer them. The faster you answer correctly, the more points you will earn. The goal is to achieve the highest score possible.
Tip: To maximize your score, try to answer each question as quickly as you can. However, accuracy is also important. Make sure to read and understand each question before selecting an answer. Don’t rush and risk making a mistake.

Setting Up
First things first, let’s prepare the game board. Take the four lane cards and shuffle them up. Place them face down in a line between you and your opponent. Remember, we need them to be nicely oriented, so take a good look at the illustration for reference. Now, turn two of the cards face up. And don’t forget, you’ll need easy access to the checkered flag card, so make sure it’s within reach for both players.
Now, let’s get your deck of cards ready. Split the rest of the cards into two piles, one for the red-backed cards and one for the blue-backed cards. Each player gets one deck. Shuffle your cards up, and hold them, face down, in one hand – ready for action!
Let the Games Begin!
Alright, it’s time to rev those engines and start playing. When you and your opponent are all set, flip over one of the remaining face-down lane cards. This card will kickstart the game and set the pace for both of you.
Alright, here’s how it goes. We’re gonna play this game where we have to get rid of our cards as fast as possible. To do this, we’ll place the cards face up into these eight rows. Each row corresponds to a numbered car on the four lane cards. But wait, there’s a rule we need to follow:
Listen up, because this is important. In each row, we can’t have any repeated colors or car parts. Let me break it down for you. If there’s already a purple traffic cone and an orange spark plug in a row, we can’t put anything purple or orange there. And we can’t put any other traffic cones or spark plugs in that row either. Got it?
Race Tips
- You can put cards on either side of the lane cards.
- Make sure the cards overlap when you place them in the rows. (Keep half of each card visible as the game goes on. Look at the picture on the left).
- Hold your deck with one hand and turn over the top card with the other hand. Put it in the rows.
- You can only look at the top card from your deck, not multiple cards at once.
- If you can’t or don’t want to play your top card, put it at the bottom of your deck and flip over the next card.
- If you accidentally play a card in a row that already has another card with the same car part or color, you can fix it right away and put the card in another row or take it back into your hand. But if there is already at least one other card covering the “mistake” card, it has to stay in the row until the end of the game.
- Here’s a strategy tip: try to put cards in rows with higher-number cars first.
End of the Game
If you have no more cards to play, or if you can’t play any more cards without repeating a color or part in any of the eight rows, shout “Top Speed!” and take the checkered flag card. This ends the game.
Scoring
First, check if there were any cards left in your hand that you could have played. If there were, your opponent wins the checkered flag card.
So, here’s what you do: first, make sure to go through all eight rows and look for any mistakes with the colors or parts that repeat. If you find a row with no repeats, then flip over the card at the bottom of that row (the one farthest from the card in the center lane) to see who played it.
But if you come across a row with a repeat in either the color or shape, then you’ve found a mistake. Flip over the “mistake” card and put it face down in the row, diagonally across from the center lane card, so everyone can see who made the error. Just remember, if there are multiple mistakes in a row, only turn over the closest one to the center lane card.
Now, let’s talk points. You’ll need to add up the points from the cards at the top of each row where your color is at the end, but not diagonally. For example, if you’re playing with the red deck, you’ll count the points for any rows where the end cards are red but not diagonally. But here’s the cool part – you also get points for any rows where your opponent’s card is diagonally!
Hey there, let me break down the rules for you!
First off, here’s a neat trick: if you have the checkered flag card, you’ll score an extra 3 points. Pretty cool, right?
Now, onto the main event: the player with the most points takes home the victory! Simple as that.
But wait, what happens if there’s a tie? Well, here’s the deal: if both players have the same number of points, the winner is the one with fewer cards left in their hand. If they’re still tied and have the same number of unplayed cards, the player holding the checkered flag card gets the crown.
Oh, and just to give you a taste of what I mean, here are a couple of scoring examples:
When I reach the end of the game, I see four cards in the #1 car row: a yellow tire, a red helmet, a blue tire, and a yellow muffler.
The blue tire is the first card in the row that represents a “mistake” (the yellow muffler mistake occurred later). Therefore, I need to flip over the blue tire card and position it diagonally.

Looking at the back of the card placed horizontally, it’s clear that the blue player messed up and that means the red player earns a point for this row.

I wonder what happens when there are no errors in a row. Let’s find out! In this game, the red and blue players are trying to form rows without any mistakes. They earn points for their successful rows. If there are no mistakes in a row, the red player gets 1 point for the top row and the blue player gets 5 points for the bottom row. So, even though both rows are perfect, the blue player gets more points because their row is on the bottom. I find it fascinating how small differences can make such a big impact!

So here’s what happened: the blue player scored 4 points for the top row and an extra 2 points for the bottom row because the red player made a mistake and played a card there. Pretty neat, huh?
