How to Play the There’s a Moose in the House Game
Hey there! Ready to have some fun? Let’s dive into the rules of the There’s a Moose in the House game. It’s a super exciting game that’ll have you laughing and strategizing all at once.
Here’s how it goes:
Objective
The goal of the game is to avoid getting moose cards in your house. The player with the fewest moose cards at the end wins. Simple, right?
Setup
Before we can start playing, let’s set things up:
- Shuffle the deck of cards.
- Each player gets a house card facedown in front of them.
- Deal five hand cards to each player.
- Keep the rest of the deck nearby as the draw pile.
Gameplay
Now the real fun begins! Here’s how we play:
- The youngest player goes first. That could be you!
- You start your turn by drawing a card from the draw pile.
- Then, you look at all your cards and decide which one you want to play.
- When you play a card, you place it face up in front of another player, putting it in their house. Oh no, a moose!
- Sometimes, you might get lucky and play a moose card in your own house. That’s totally fine!
- If a player has a moose card in their house, they can try to avoid it by playing a moose-eating card. Phew, disaster averted!
- Play continues in a clockwise direction, with each player taking their turn.
- If the draw pile runs out, shuffle the discard pile and use it as the new draw pile.
- The game continues until all players have played all their cards.
Scoring
Once the game is over, it’s time to check who’s the moose-avoiding champion. Here’s how you score:
- Count the number of moose cards each player has in their house.
- The player with the fewest moose cards wins the game! Congratulations!
And that’s it! You’re now ready to play the There’s a Moose in the House game like a pro. Have a blast and remember to laugh when those moose start piling up!

Hey there! So, here’s the deal: we’re playing a game, and the goal is to make sure that there are no moose in your own house while putting them in your opponents’ houses. Simple, right?
Setting Up
Before we start, let’s take a look at all the cards in the deck. Pay attention to the ones that have a colored moose on an empty room.
We’ll need to choose someone to be the dealer. The dealer shuffles the deck, gives each player four cards, and puts the rest in a pile facing down in the middle of the playing area. Make sure to keep your cards to yourself!
Playing the Game
Now comes the fun part! Everyone starts with an invisible empty “house” in front of them. As the game goes on, we’ll fill up our opponents’ houses with rooms, and then fill those rooms with moose. Got it?
When we play the game, the player on the left side of the dealer always goes first. After that, we take turns in a clockwise direction. To start your turn, draw one card from the deck that is face-down. Then, you can choose from the following options:
1. Put a “There’s a Moose in the House” card on any opponent who doesn’t already have one.
2. Put an empty room card on any opponent who has less than three empty rooms.
3. Put a matching “Moose in the Room” card on top of an opponent’s empty room, but only if they already have a “There’s a Moose in the House” card in front of them.
4. Put a Door card on one of your empty rooms.
If you don’t have any cards that you can play, just discard one and place it face-up next to the draw pile. This means that your turn is over, and it’s now the next player’s turn.
Now, let’s talk about the actions you can take with each type of card.
First, let’s look at the “There’s a Moose in the House” card. This card allows you to place a moose in an opponent’s room. If a player has a moose in their house, they can’t win the game.
Next, we have the empty room card. You can use this card to claim an opponent’s empty room. By doing this, you prevent them from putting a moose in that room.
If the opponent already has a moose in their house, you can play a matching “Moose in the Room” card on top of their empty room. This way, you increase the number of rooms they have with moose, making it harder for them to win.
Lastly, we have the Door card. This card is played on one of your empty rooms, creating a barrier and preventing opponents from putting a moose in that room.
Remember, if you can’t play any of your cards, just discard one and move on to the next player. Keep in mind the different actions you can take and strategize accordingly. Now, let’s get ready to play!

Hey there! Let’s talk about a really important card in the game – “There’s a Moose in the House!” This card has a big impact early on, because you can’t put any moose into your opponents’ houses until they have one of these cards in front of them.
When you want to play this card, just put it face up in front of any opponent and say, “There’s a Moose in Your House!” Once you give someone a There’s a Moose in the House card, it stays there for the whole game.
Now here’s the thing – you can’t avoid getting one of these cards yourself, and you can’t get rid of it once you have it. But here’s the good news – each player can only get one There’s a Moose in the House card during the whole game.
Just a reminder…
Once everyone has a There’s a Moose in the House card in front of them, you can discard any extra ones from your hand. Then, draw new cards so you have four again.
Hey there! Let me tell you something interesting about the card game “There’s a Moose in the House.”
What Happens if You Draw a Card
If you ever draw a There’s a Moose in the House card once everyone already has a card in front of them, don’t worry! Just toss it away and draw a new card.
Empty Rooms

Hey there! So, here’s the deal: your house has four empty rooms – a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. During your turn, you can give one of these rooms to another player.
If someone gives you an Empty Room card, you gotta put it face up in front of you for everyone to see. Once you have an Empty Room, other players can slap a Moose in the Room card on top of it, unless you close it with a Door card first.
Now, here’s the catch – you can only give opponents an Empty Room card if they don’t already have a There’s a Moose in the House card in front of them.
Remember:
- When building your “house,” start from the left and keep the There’s a Moose in the House card on the far left side.
In your house, you can have several rooms that match each other. You might have two kitchens or three bedrooms, for example. However, there is a limit to how many empty rooms you can have at once. During the game, you cannot have more than three empty rooms without a Closed Door or a Moose in your house. So, it’s important to keep track of your empty rooms and make sure you don’t exceed that limit.

In the game of Moose in the House, each empty room has a corresponding Moose in the Room card. Once your opponents have a There’s a Moose in the House card, you can sneakily place moose in their rooms. Take a look at the Empty Room cards in front of your opponents.
If you have an Empty Room card that matches a Moose in the Room card from your hand, gently place the card face up on top of the Empty Room card and exclaim, “There’s a Moose in your [name of room]!” Moose in the Room cards will be counted when the game ends.
A few important notes:
You can only play Moose in the Room cards on opponents who have a There’s a Moose in the House Card in front of them. Also, you are only allowed to play one Moose in the Room card per Empty Room.
Door

Hey there! Did you know that door cards are like a shield that keeps moose out of your house? It’s pretty cool, right? You can play a door card on top of an empty room card, and just like magic, the room is protected!
When you do this, you have to say “Slam!” It’s like the secret code that tells the door to shut permanently. So once you play a door card, it stays there until the game is over.
Hey, listen up!
Here’s something important: you can only play door cards to your own house, and you can only play them on rooms that are empty. So make sure you’ve got an empty room before you start slamming those doors!
Moose Trap

Got a pesky moose trying to invade my house? No worries! I’ve got just the thing to deal with it – a Moose Trap card! When some sneaky person tries to put a moose in one of my empty rooms, I’ll whip out this card and play it right away.
I’ll make sure to show the Moose Trap card to my opponent, and with a triumphant cry of “Moose Trap!”, I’ll snatch both their Moose in the Room card and my Moose Trap card and toss them into the discard pile. But hey, I’ll keep my Empty Room card because who knows, someone else might try to sneak another moose in later on!
After that, I’ll draw another card so that my hand is back to four cards. And the game goes on, with the player on my left taking their turn, completely unaware of the moose invasion that almost was!
Just a Heads Up
Keep in mind, the Moose Trap card can only be played as an instant action during someone else’s turn. So, don’t try to whip it out during your own turn – that’s against the rules!

Game Over
Once all the cards are drawn from the deck, we keep the game going by playing the cards in our hands, taking turns like we always do.
If we find ourselves unable to play any cards from our hand, we simply say “pass” to let everyone know. We keep going until all players have either run out of cards or have no moves left, and that’s when we count the Moose in the Room cards.
The player with the fewest Moose wins the game. In case of a tie, the player with the most closed doors takes the victory.
Let the Fun Begin
Having moose inside our houses is absolutely ridiculous! Let’s make this game even more entertaining by coming up with jokes and clever remarks throughout the entire gameplay.
Here are a few ideas: When you play the Moose in the Kitchen card, you can get creative and say something like, “I’m coming over for some Chocolate Mousse!” And if you decide to play the Moose in the Bedroom card, you could go for a fun bedtime theme and say, “Bedtime for Bullwinkle!” The most important thing is to have fun and let your imagination run wild!
