Familiarize yourself with the game components and layout. It’s crucial to have a clear understanding of the game’s mechanics and objectives before braving the untamed wilds.

Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It

The Path Less Traveled

One of the key aspects of the solo variant is that you control not one, but two explorers. You’ll navigate the jungle, making crucial decisions at each step of the way. Balancing your resources, managing your explorers’ health and resolve, and carefully selecting your actions are all vital to your success.

When someone embarks on a solo expedition, there’s an undeniable sense of uncertainty. You never know what lies ahead. But fear not! As you progress through the game, you’ll uncover and reveal new cards and events, shedding light on the path ahead. Stay alert, for the jungle is full of surprises, both good and bad.

Hey there! In this cool new version, it’s just you and your explorers on a quest for glory. The rules for this solo adventure are pretty similar to the cooperative version, so make sure you read those first.

Getting Started

In order to form your team, I invite you to select one explorer from each Expertise. Once you have chosen your explorers, you will need to take three Ammunition tokens and three Food tokens and place them in your team area. It’s important to ensure that each explorer starts with three Health tokens.

Now, let’s set up the game. Lay out all nine expedition cards in the middle of the table, making sure to end with the lost city. Place a pawn on the first expedition card. After that, shuffle the adventure cards and deal yourself six. Please note that in this version, the rules for Morning and Evening are slightly different than usual.

The Morning

During the Morning phase, the cards will be rearranged in number order as they are added to the path, just like in previous versions. However, in this version, you will be playing cards both from your hand and from the top of the deck.

First, let’s get started by drawing two cards from the deck. Place them on the table to create the beginning of your path. Now, select two cards from your hand and add them to the path. Great! Next, draw a third card from the deck and place it on the path. To finish up, play a third card from your hand onto the path.

Now it’s time to resolve the cards from left to right. Remember to deduct one Food when you’re finished.

Evening

During the Evening phase, the order in which you play cards will be significant. Start by playing one card from your hand to create the path. From here, you have two options. You can either draw a card from the deck or choose a card from your hand to add to either the left or the right of the existing path cards on the table.

Here’s how you play the game: Keep repeating these steps until you’ve used up all the cards in your hand and drawn three new cards from the deck. This will create a path that’s made up of six cards. Make sure to resolve the cards from left to right, and don’t forget to lose one Food when you’re done. After that, draw six more cards for your hand and start a new Morning.

In the evening, you can choose a card from your hand or the top of the deck and put it to the left or right of the cards on the path.

When the game ends, there are three possible outcomes:

1. If the pawn reaches the lost city of Z, you win.

2. If all three explorers die, you lose.

3. If the adventure deck runs out of cards for the second time, you lose.

In this version, you can also earn points. At the end of the game, you earn one point for each remaining Food and Ammunition token, one point for each unused Expertise card in your team area, and five points if you haven’t shuffled the deck yet.

To calculate your final score, multiply your points by the number of surviving explorers.
