The Great Persuader Game Rules
Welcome to The Great Persuader, a unique game that will test your persuasive skills and challenge you to think critically. In this game, I will guide you through the rules and strategies you need to succeed. Are you ready to become a master persuader?
Let’s start with the basics. The objective of The Great Persuader is to convince others to adopt your point of view. Whether you’re trying to persuade a friend, a family member, or even a stranger, your ability to present your ideas effectively is key.
To play The Great Persuader, remember these fundamental principles:
1. Know your audience: Understanding who you’re trying to persuade is crucial. Take the time to gather information about the person or group you’re speaking to. What are their interests, beliefs, and values? This knowledge will help you tailor your arguments to appeal to their specific needs and desires.
2. Build your case: Once you have a clear understanding of your audience, it’s time to build your case. Start by presenting a strong and compelling argument that supports your point of view. Use logical reasoning, facts, and evidence to back up your claims. Remember, the more convincing your arguments, the more likely you are to persuade others.
3. Use persuasive language: The words you choose can make a significant impact on how your message is received. Use persuasive language that evokes emotion and captures the attention of your audience. Be confident, passionate, and articulate in your delivery. This will help you engage your listeners and make a lasting impression.
4. Address counterarguments: Anticipate potential objections or counterarguments that your audience may have. By addressing these concerns head-on, you can show that you have considered different perspectives and are well-prepared. This demonstrates your credibility and makes your arguments stronger.
5. Listen actively: Persuasion is a two-way street. It’s not just about convincing others; it’s also about being open to their ideas and perspectives. Listen actively to what your audience has to say and respond thoughtfully. By showing respect and engaging in meaningful dialogue, you can establish rapport and increase the likelihood of persuasion.
6. Adapt and adjust: Not every strategy will work for every situation or individual. Be flexible and willing to adapt your approach as needed. Pay attention to how your audience is responding and adjust your arguments accordingly. This will help you maintain credibility and increase your chances of success.
Now that you understand the rules of The Great Persuader, it’s time to put them into practice. Remember, persuasive communication is a skill that can be developed with practice. The more you engage in persuasive discussions, the better you’ll become.
So, are you ready to step into the world of persuasion? Let the games begin!

- Instructions
Let’s Get Started!
Alright, here’s how the game goes. Two players, called the “Persuaders,” take turns trying to convince another player, who we’ll call the “Customer,” that their offer is either good or bad for them. For example, one Persuader might say, “Working as a scarecrow has been the dream of your entire life!” while the other might say, “Why on earth would you want to win the lottery!?”
The Customer will listen carefully to both Persuaders and then choose one of them. But here’s the twist: all the other players get to bet on which Persuader they think will win. So, who will be the most convincing?

Setting Up the Game
Okay, here’s what we need to do to get started. First, everyone needs to grab a voting token and a “Changed My Mind!” tile. Good? Great. Now, let’s pick someone to be the Customer, and they’ll be in charge of the sand-timer and special die.
The two players sitting next to the Customer will be the Persuaders. They don’t get to vote, so they’ll just put their voting tokens in front of them. The player on the left will have the megaphone showing, and the player on the right will have the heart showing. This way, we can tell who they are without even asking.
Okay, now the rest of us can choose which side we’re on by using our voting tokens. Ready? Let’s go!

Hey there! Let’s get this game rolling!
How to Play
First, give the cards a good shuffle. Ready? Great!
The customer will roll the special die. This roll will determine which side of the card the persuaders will read out loud. Let me give you an example: If the customer rolls red, both persuaders will read the red side of their cards.
Now, it’s time for everyone else to secretly vote for which persuader they think the customer will choose. Grab your voting token and place it in front of you with your chosen vote up. Keep it covered with your hand so others can’t see it.
You can base your bet on anything you want – maybe the persuader’s skills or the cards they drew. It’s all up to you!
Once everyone has placed their bets, the persuader sitting to the right will give a speech. Get ready to listen!
- Red Side: I can explain the benefits of my offer and point out the drawbacks of the other person’s offer.
- Blue Side: I can highlight the disadvantages of my offer and emphasize the advantages of the other person’s offer.
- 3 or 4 players: each player has to be the Customer twice;
- 5 to 8 players: each player has to be the Customer once.
When it’s my turn to speak, I have two options:
But here’s the catch – I can only talk for as long as the sand-timer allows. The customer starts the timer when I begin speaking and keeps an eye on it. Once the sand runs out, the other person gets their turn to present their offer.
We can even interrupt each other and have discussions, but ultimately, it’s the customer who decides which offer is best!
After both speeches are done, you have to pick one of the two Persuaders. Your decision can be based on the goodness of the offers, the speaking skills of the Persuaders, or simply your own preferences. Once you announce your choice, we reveal all the bets.
If your chosen Persuader wins, you get 2 points. And if you placed a bet on that Persuader, you get 1 point too.
We write down all the scores on the scoring pad so we can keep track.
Note: You always choose the Persuader who convinced you the most. If you pick a Persuader from the red side, it means you want their offer because they explained all the advantages.
When it comes to the blue side, the Persuaders show the downsides of their proposal and the advantages of the other side: if the Customer picks a Persuader (who will get 2 points), they accept the offer from the other Persuader!
For example (Red side): Alfred got “Working as a Scarecrow” and Bobby got “Walking Backwards For a Year”. Alfred has to explain why it’s better to work as a scarecrow instead of walking backwards for a whole year.
Once the sand-timer runs out, Bobby has to explain the opposite. In the end, the Customer decides they would rather walk backwards for a year: they accept Bobby’s offer, and Bobby gets 2 points.
For example: I drew the card that says “Winning a million-dollar lottery,” while Daniel drew the card that says “Discovering the Fountain of Youth.” Now, let me explain why winning a million-dollar lottery is not as great as it sounds, and why discovering the Fountain of Youth is actually much better.
First of all, winning a million dollars may seem amazing at first. You can buy anything you want and live a life of luxury. But let me tell you, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Money can bring a lot of problems with it. People might start treating you differently, always asking you for favors or loans. It can be really stressful to manage all that money and make sure you don’t waste it. Plus, you might attract the wrong kind of attention and become a target for scams or theft. Trust me, winning a million dollars might not be as great as it sounds.
On the other hand, discovering the Fountain of Youth would be truly incredible. Imagine never growing old, never experiencing the aches and pains of aging. You would have boundless energy and vitality, always feeling young and alive. You could accomplish so much in life, pursue all your dreams and passions without the limitations of time. And think about all the knowledge and wisdom you would accumulate over the years. You would be able to make a real difference in the world. Discovering the Fountain of Youth is definitely the better choice.
Now that you’ve heard both sides, I’m sure you can understand why I believe discovering the Fountain of Youth is the superior option. So, what do you think? Which card would you choose?
Once we make our choices, the game moves on. The used cards are put away, and the next player becomes the Customer, while the two players to their left become the new Persuaders. It’s an exciting game full of unexpected twists and turns. Are you ready?

In the game, each of us has a special tile called “Changed My Mind!” We can use this tile once during the whole game. When we use it, we have to put it back in the box.
If you play the special tile, you can change your bet. But remember, you can only do this after both speeches are done, but before the Customer announces the winning offer!
The Game Ends
The game ends when we have played a certain number of turns. The number of turns depends on how many players we have:
The winner is the player with the most points at the end of the game! If there is a tie, all the tied players win!
Special Rules for 3 Players
We don’t have a voting phase. We only score points when we are the winning Persuader.
