The Goal of the Game
Your objective is to avoid collecting all the letters of the word CHARM while other players do. The game is played in rounds, where cards are rapidly passed from one player to another.
During each round, your mission is to gather four cards of the same suit and be the fastest player to grab one of those charming heart-shaped charms. But don’t take too long, or they’ll all be snatched up!

- To set up the game, place the charms in the center of the playing area. You’ll need one less charm than the number of players. For example, if there are 5 players, you’ll need 4 charms.
- Next, choose a player to be the first dealer. We’ll call her the Starlette. The Starlette shuffles the deck and deals 4 cards face down to each player. After dealing, she places the remaining cards face down in a pile in front of her. Remember, everyone should only look at their own cards. No peeking at other players’ cards, okay?
How to Play
Round One
Now it’s time to start the game! The Starlette begins by picking the top card from the pile in front of her. If she wants to keep the card, she adds it to her hand. Then, she passes a card from her hand that she doesn’t want to the player on her left.
If I don’t like the card I’ve picked, I can simply pass it to the player on my left and choose a new one from the pile. And the same goes for every player after me – they all get to decide whether they want to keep the card passed to them or pass it along.
But here’s the twist: the last player, the person to the Starlette’s right, doesn’t pass her cards to the Starlette. Instead, she discards them into a pile in front of her called the “Whatever!” pile.

Hot tip #1: Remember, you can only have a maximum of 4 cards in your hand at any given time!
The Starlette keeps picking and passing cards to her left until one of the players manages to collect four cards of the same kind. When that happens, they shout “Charmed!” and everyone rushes to grab a charm as quickly as they can.
When you don’t have a charm, you need to collect a “C”, which is the first letter of the word “CHARM”.
Here’s a helpful tip: Try to pass cards to the player on your left as quickly as possible.
B. What Happens in Each Following Round
After a letter is given out, all of the charms are returned to the middle of the playing area. The player on the left of the Starlette becomes the new Starlette.
The new Starlette shuffles and deals out the cards for the next round, following the same rules as Round One.
Another tip: If there are no more cards in the Starlette’s pile during a round, shuffle the “Whatever!” pile to create a new pile for the Starlette.
The End of the Game
If you’ve managed to collect all the letters in the word CHARM, you are no longer part of the game. The rest of the players must then remove one charm from the center and continue playing.
The last player remaining after everyone else has spelled CHARM will be declared the winner!

The Starlette for that round gets to come up with a question or think of a silly thing to do. (If you’re the Starlette, the player to your left should ask the question or create the dare).
For example, some questions might be, “Who’s your favorite singer?” or “What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever done?” And here are a few sample dares: “Balance a charm on your nose”, “Put something you’re wearing on backward”, or “Touch the ear of someone who isn’t playing this game”.
This version of the game can end whenever you want it to, or when everyone has had to tell the truth and take a dare at least once!
