Welcome to the future. The world is on the cusp of a technological revolution, and it’s all thanks to sentient robots. These incredible creations are poised to revolutionize information, transportation, and industry. But here’s the catch: while building these robots is now a piece of cake, programming them is another story altogether. Many companies claim to have cracked the code, but only one will come out on top.

That’s where you come in. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to acquire these valuable Bots and integrate them into your network. But be warned – they will have a profound impact on your systems. To succeed, you must anticipate their effects, calibrate your Bots with precision, and attract the right investors who will help you lead the way in the sentient revolution.

Let’s get started with the game setup. First, I’ll give you 4 Agent pawns, 5 Assistant pawns, and 2 turn order markers in your chosen color. Now, take these 5 dice, each in a different color. Great!

Next, we need to place the Turn order board in the center of the table. This board is important for keeping track of the order of play. Place it within easy reach for everyone.

Now, let’s organize the Investor tokens. We’ll create 3 stacks, making sure each stack has the same number of tiles. Each stack will contain 5 different investor types. Place the stacks face-down next to the turn order board.

It’s time to prepare the card deck. Shuffle it well and place it face down near the turn order board. We’ll be using these cards during the game, so keep them handy.

Each player will have their own player board. You’ll receive a left side board, and I’ll randomly deal you a right side board. The right side board will show your starting investor and complete your company name. Exciting!

Finally, we’ll determine the player order. Take one turn order marker from each player and create a stack on the first circle of the player order track. The player on top of the stack will be the start player, followed by the second player, and so on. We’re all set!

    Getting Ready for the Round

(Follow these steps before each round begins):

    1. Prepare the factory: Take 4 cards from the deck and arrange them in a line where everyone can see. These cards represent the Bots that your Agents can acquire. It’s best if all players can read the cards face-up.
    2. Position an investor token between each card and at each end, as shown in the diagram below. Use the 5 investor tokens that correspond to the current round.

    The Factory

How to play Sentient Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Okay, here’s what you do: roll your 5 dice and put them on the spots that match their colors on your board.

(Only in the 2nd and 3rd rounds) Grab the turn order markers from the previous round and hand them out to the players. Each player always starts with 1 turn order marker and there’s another one on the turn order board that shows where you stand in the turn order.

    How to Play

Sentient has 3 rounds. In each round, you’ll add 4 new Bots to your network. At the end of the round, these Bots will give you points. You have 5 dice in your network.

The Bots you add to your network can make the dice next to them higher or lower. They will also score points based on the dice next to them at the end of the round. Some Bots score points if you have the same number on adjacent dice, while others score points if the numbers are low or even, and so on.

When I play the game, I can earn investor tokens by strategically placing my Agents to take cards from the factory. These tokens are valuable because they score points for collecting Bots of specific types.

There are two types of pawns that I can use in the game: Agents and Assistants. Agents have a single purpose, which is to claim a card. On the other hand, Assistants can be used in two ways. They can add to my influence when placing an Agent, or they can prevent any positive or negative effects of a card.

At the start of each round, the player at the top of the player order stack takes the first turn. Then, the play proceeds down the stack, repeating until the end of the round. The turn order remains the same throughout the entire round.

When it’s my turn, I have a few options:

    1. I can get a Bot, or
    2. I can pass or discard Bots (but only once per round).

    A. Getting a Bot

Getting a Bot involves 3 steps:

    1. Step 1: Placing an Agent – I need to place an Agent and maybe some Assistants above a card in the factory.
    2. Step 2: Connecting to the Network – I have to place the card between two dice in my network.
    3. Step 3: Calibrating – I must adjust the adjacent dice based on the card, or I can use an Assistant to cover up the +/- symbols.

    Step 1: Placing an Agent

How to play Sentient Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Hey there! When you want to add a card to your network, just follow these steps. First, place your Agent above the card you want to add. You can also place some Assistants in the same spot to boost your influence with the nearby investors. Each Agent and Assistant gives you 1 influence point.

Next, take the card and replace it with one from the top of the deck. If the deck is empty, don’t worry! Just reshuffle the discard pile to make a new draw deck.

Add the Card to Your Network

How to play Sentient Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When you put your Agent in play, grab the card you picked and stick it between two dice in your network. Put it in a spot where you haven’t put a card yet this turn (that means each of the four cards you pick in a turn go in separate ‘slots’ in your network).

    Adjust

How to play Sentient Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Once you place the dice, look at the corners of the card to adjust the adjacent dice. If you see a +, increase the adjacent die by one. If there’s a -, decrease the die by one. The = sign means the die stays the same.

    1. Using Assistants: If you don’t want to adjust a die, you can place an Assistant on top of the +/- on the card to ignore its effect. You can even place two Assistants on the same card if you want. Assistants only block the effect of a card, they don’t change individual dice. Assistants stay on the card until the round ends, and then they’re returned to you.
    2. When a die with a 6 is calibrated with a +, it becomes a 1. And when a 1 is calibrated with a -, it becomes a 6.

    B. Pass/Discard Bots

Hey there! Let me break it down for you in simple terms. When it’s your turn, you usually take a Bot card, right? But guess what? You can choose not to! Instead, you can put your turn order marker on the space for the next round. Cool, huh?

Now, here’s the deal. If another player already has their marker on that space, no worries! Just put your marker on top of theirs. Easy peasy!

But wait, there’s more! If you still have at least one agent with you, you can get rid of all the available Bot cards in the factory and replace them with four fresh ones from the deck. And guess what? That’s the end of your turn!

How to play Sentient Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Once it’s your turn, it’s time for the next player in line to take their move. The round continues until all players have placed all four of their Agents, collected four cards, and passed at least once. Keep in mind that if you run out of Agents but still have your turn order marker, that means it’s your last turn and you’ll pass. Don’t worry about discarding and replacing the bots.

    The Round Ends

At the end of each round, here’s what you need to do:

    1. Score the Cards
    2. Get Investors
    3. Refresh

    Score the Cards

    • Information Bots have a single number on them. If one of the adjacent dice matches this number, you’ll score 2 points. If both dice match, you’ll get 7 points.
    • Transport Bots earn points based on the relationship between the dice. For example, if one die is greater than the other or if both dice are equal, you’ll score points.
    • Industry Bots have a scoring system based on the combinations of even and odd dice they roll.
    • Military Bots score points based on either the difference or the sum of the dice they roll. For example, if both dice add up to 9 or more, they score.
    • Service Bots have a variable scoring system that depends on the value of the dice adjacent to them. The amount of points they score can change depending on one or both of the adjacent dice.

For example: When scoring the cards from left to right:

How to play Sentient Official Rules UltraFoodMess

    1. Let’s talk about the Service card first. It’s an interesting one because the points you get are determined by the sum of the two dice, minus 6. In this case, the sum of the dice is 11, so you earn 5 points.
    2. Now, let’s move on to the Industry card. This card earns you 3 points if both dice show odd numbers. And guess what? Both dice show odd numbers, so you earn 3 points.
    3. The next card is the Information card. This one is a bit trickier. It earns you 2 points if one of the dice is a four, and it earns you 7 points if both dice are fours. In our case, only one of the dice is a four, so you earn 2 points.
    4. And finally, we have the Transport card. This card earns you 4 points if the left die is greater than the right die. And guess what again? The left die is indeed greater, so you earn 4 points. If we add up all these points, we get a total of 5 + 3 + 2 + 4 = 14 points.

    Let’s Attract Some Investors

When the scoring of cards is completed, I assess the investor tokens. Each Agent and Assistant has a value of 1 influence. You earn the investor token if you have the highest combined influence in the card slots next to it. Keep in mind that the investor tokens on the ends only have 1 adjacent card slot. For the player with the second highest influence, there is a 1 VP chip as a reward. In case of a tie, the player with the most Agents wins. If there is still a tie, the player who is highest in the player order stack for the current round (not the next round) takes the victory. Remember to place all the won investor tokens above your player board. These tokens will be scored at the end of the game, earning you 1 point per card of the associated type that you have.

How to play Sentient Official Rules UltraFoodMess

    1. Information – I’m the Yellow player and I have the majority of influence, with four adjacent to the Information investor, so I get to take it. Red player earns 1VP.
    2. Industry – All three players have four influence adjacent to the Industry token, so we need to consider the influence on either side. Since I’m the Red player and the start player, I win this one. White player is next in turn order, so they earn 1VP.
    3. Military – I’m the Red player and I have the majority of influence surrounding the Military investor, so I get to take it. White and Yellow players are tied, but White player is earlier in turn order, so they earn 1VP.
    4. Service – I’m the Yellow player and I have the most influence surrounding the Service investor. Red and White players are tied, so Red player earns 1VP based on turn order.

I’m going to rewrite the text for you, but before I do, please note that the HTML tags must remain intact. Here’s the rewritten content:

    The Importance of Transport

I want to talk to you about the important role that the Transport investor plays in the game. Both the Yellow and White investors have 3 influence adjacent to the Transport investor, but what sets them apart is the number of Agents they have. White has more Agents, giving them an advantage and winning them the Service investor. This means that Yellow earns 1VP.

    Let’s Refresh

    • First, we need to remove any remaining cards and unclaimed investor tokens or VP chips from the factory.
    • Next, we remove the player order tokens from the round we just completed and give them back to the players.

Now we’re ready to start the next round. The player on top of the player order stack becomes the first player, and the turn order continues down through the stack.

Don’t forget to refer to the “Setting Up The Round” section to prepare for the next round. After scoring in the 3rd round, we’ll proceed to the final scoring and the end of the game.

    The End of the Game

Collecting Investor Tokens: When you play the game, you’ll receive different types of investor tokens. These tokens have a value determined by the number of cards of the corresponding type that you have in your possession. Each investor token is worth 1 point per card of its type.

For example: If you have 3 Industry investor tokens and you also have 4 Industry cards, each Industry investor token will be worth 4 points, giving you a total score of 12 points for the Industry type.

Let’s say you have 1 Information investor token and 2 Information cards. In this case, you will have a total of 2 points for the Information type. However, if you have a Service investor token but no Service cards, you won’t receive any additional points for the Service type.

If you have 1 Military investor token, you’ll score 1 point for each Military card you possess. So if you have a total of 3 Military cards, you will get 3 points for the Military type. Finally, if you haven’t acquired any Transport investors during the game, your 3 Transport cards won’t give you any extra points.

How to play Sentient Official Rules UltraFoodMess

So, you’ve finished playing the game! Now it’s time to find out who the winner is. The one with the highest score takes the crown. Simple, right? But what if there’s a tie? Don’t worry, we’ve got a tiebreaker for you. In the event of a tie, the player with the most investor tokens snatches the victory. And if, by some incredible stroke of luck, you’re still tied, well, celebrate together! Because in the end, both of you are winners. So tally up those scores and let’s see who comes out on top!
