Saboteur: Cave-In! Game Rules

Hey there! Are you ready to embark on an adventure-filled game and dig deep into the mysterious world of Saboteur: Cave-In? Well, hold on tight because I’m here to guide you through the maze of game rules and help you become a master of deception and strategy!

Now, let’s talk about the game objective. As a player, your job is to navigate a treacherous underground mine and search for precious gold nuggets. Sounds thrilling, right? But here’s the twist – some of your fellow players could be secret saboteurs, trying to hinder your progress! So, keep your eyes peeled and trust no one!

To start the game, you’ll receive a secret role card – either a Miner or a Saboteur. The Miners are working towards the common goal of finding gold, while the Saboteurs have their own agenda of causing chaos and blocking the miners’ path. Who will you be?

As you cleverly navigate through the mine, you’ll encounter path cards, which represent tunnels. These cards can either help you reach the gold or steer you off course. Choose your path wisely! Oh, and did I mention there are action cards too? These powerful cards can be used to reinforce your own progress or disrupt your opponents’ plans. Trust me, they can be a game-changer!

Communicating with your fellow players is key in Saboteur: Cave-In. Use the special dwarf cards to discuss strategies and form alliances, but be cautious. Remember, some dwarves could be deceitful saboteurs disguising themselves as miners! So, choose your companions wisely!

Throughout the game, the hidden role of each player adds mystery and excitement. The Miners must work together to overcome obstacles and reach the gold. But the Saboteurs? Well, they’re lurking in the shadows, planning their next move. Will you be able to uncover their true identity and foil their plans?

Finally, the game ends when the treasure cards are revealed. If the Miners have managed to uncover the gold, they’ll rejoice in victory. But if the Saboteurs have been successful in sabotaging their efforts, the treacherous game will be theirs to claim.

So, my adventurous friend, are you ready to unleash your inner miner or saboteur and immerse yourself in the thrilling twists and turns of Saboteur: Cave-In? Gather your friends, strategize, and let the underground adventure begin! Good luck!

The story is about the good dwarves who have lost their tools in a cave labyrinth. I’m not sure how this happened, maybe some saboteurs stole them? But regardless, the dwarves are on a mission to find their tools. As they explore the labyrinth, they uncover regular safe labyrinth cards.

Their goal is to find all their missing tools before the saboteurs can cause a rock slide by uncovering the rock slide card. If the dwarves are successful in finding their tools before the rock slide occurs, they win.

On the other hand, the saboteurs win if they can cause the rock slide before the dwarves uncover all their tools.

To set up the game, follow these steps:

1. Create the main deck:

– Take as many “Tool” cards as there are players.

– Include a single “Rock Slide” card.

– Add enough “Labyrinth” cards to make the deck five times the number of players. For example, if there are six players, the deck should have thirty cards in total.

– Deal each player 5 cards.

  1. Let’s start by dealing out Role Cards: Each Player gets one Role Card. Here’s how many to distribute based on the number of players (there might be more Role Cards than Players):
  2. 4 Players: 3 good, 2 Saboteurs
  3. 5 Players: 4 good, 2 Saboteurs
  4. 6 Players: 4 good, 2 Saboteurs
  5. 7 Players: 5 good, 2 Saboteurs
  6. 8 Players: 6 good, 3 Saboteurs
  7. 9 Players: 6 good, 3 Saboteurs
  8. 10 Players: 7 good, 3 Saboteurs
  9. Keep in mind that the Saboteurs may not know who the others are!
  10. Now, randomly give one player the Headlamp (turn marker)

Let’s Start Playing

Every Round, it’s time to check our hands. We’ll shuffle them without looking again, place them face down, and the play begins!

Hey there! So, here’s the deal: each of us gets to pick a player and check out one of their tunnels by turning over a face-down card. And guess what? We’re totally allowed to ask questions and talk about it!

But here’s the twist: if we reveal a card that says “Rock Slide,” the game is over and the Saboteurs win! Crazy, right?

Now, if we manage to find the last Tool before anything else, the Good Team wins! Not too shabby!

But if neither of those things happen, we just pass the Headlamp to the person on our left and keep playing. We’ll take turns exploring until everyone has had a chance, and that’s when the round ends.

Then, we’ll shuffle the cards and deal them out again for up to four rounds. If we still haven’t found the last tool by then, well, the Saboteurs will have won. But let’s not let that happen!
