To begin, each player is dealt a hand of cards. The cards come in different shapes, numbers, and colors. For example, if the card on the table is red, you can play any card that is also red, regardless of its shape or number. Similarly, if the card on the table is a circle, you can play any card that is also a circle, regardless of its color or number. And if the card on the table is a 5, you can play any card that is also a 5, regardless of its color or shape.

But what happens if you don’t have any matching cards in your hand? Don’t worry, my friend. Qwitch has got you covered. You can always draw a card from the deck and hope for a lucky break. Keep in mind that you can only draw once per turn, so use this opportunity wisely.

Getting Started

Let’s begin by setting up the game:

Take the Direction Cards (+, -, =) and shuffle them. Place the shuffled pile face-down in the center of the playing area.

Now, shuffle the Qwitch Cards (letters and numbers) and place one of them face-up next to the Direction Card pile. This will be your discard pile, and it should be easily accessible to everyone.

Deal the remaining Qwitch Cards to the players, making sure to do so face-down. Each player should receive the same number of cards. If there are any extra cards left, place them at the bottom of the discard pile.

Lastly, each player can take five cards from their pile to hold in their hand.

How to Play the Game

First, I’ll turn over the top Direction Card and say, “Go!” to kick off the game. But here’s the catch: we need to be quick!

Take a look at the Qwitch Card on the discard pile. It will show a combination of a letter and a number. Now, focus on the Direction Card. It will have a + (up), – (down), or = (same) sign. Your goal is to find a matching card in your hand that fits the equation.

Example (+): Imagine the Card on top of the discard pile is B2, and the direction card says “up”. That means you can play ANY card with a C on it OR a 3 on it.

Example (-): But if the Card on top of the discard pile is B2, and the direction card says “down”, you can play ANY card with an A on it OR a 1 on it.

Example (=): However, if the Card on top of the discard pile is B2, and the direction card says “same”, you can play ANY card with a B on it OR a 2 on it.

Note: Just remember, we have letters from A to H, and numbers from 1 to 8. Keep in mind that you can’t go “up” from H8 or “down” from A1, so there’s no wrapping around.

If you happen to have a card that you can play, don’t waste any time! Put it on the discard pile and shout out the letter/number on the card you just played.

Hey there! Let’s talk about playing this awesome card game. Remember, we all play at the same time, so there’s no waiting for turns. The goal is to get rid of all the cards in your hand as quickly as possible. Sounds fun, right?

Alright, now pay attention: you can play multiple cards in a row, but you can’t play more than one card at the same time.

Keep playing until one of two things happens: either nobody can play any more cards or a player has emptied their hand completely. If we hit a standstill where nobody has any playable cards, don’t worry! We can pause and refill our hands to have five cards each. At the same time, the dealer will reveal a new Direction Card, and we’ll get right back into the game.

If you find yourself with no Cards in your hand (but you still have some in your pile), just shout, “Stop!” This will pause the game for everyone. Each player will then draw cards from their pile until they have five cards in their hand again. After that, it’s back to business as usual, as the dealer reveals a new Direction Card and play resumes.

The game will continue until one lucky player has successfully emptied both their pile and their hand of cards. That player will be crowned the winner! Don’t forget to celebrate your victory with your best Qwitch dance!
