Nyet! Game Rules
Welcome to Nyet!, the strategic card game that will challenge your wits and test your decision-making skills. In this game, you must carefully plan your moves and outmaneuver your opponents to claim victory.
Objective
The objective of Nyet! is to score the fewest points by strategically playing cards from your hand and avoiding winning tricks. Each trick won will add points to your score, so the key is to carefully consider which cards to play and when.
Setup
To begin, shuffle the deck of Nyet! cards and deal 13 cards to each player. The player to the left of the dealer begins the first trick.
Gameplay
During each trick, players must follow the suit led, if possible. If they don’t have a card of the led suit, they can play a card from a different suit or use a Nyet! card, which acts as a wild card. The highest card of the led suit wins the trick, unless a Nyet! card is played, in which case the highest value of any suit wins.
After a trick is won, the player who won it leads the next trick. The game continues until all the cards have been played.
Scoring
At the end of the game, players count the points they’ve accumulated. Points are awarded for each trick won, with higher value cards carrying more points. The player with the fewest points is declared the winner of the game.
Strategy
In Nyet!, strategy is key. To maximize your chances of winning, it’s important to carefully observe the cards played by other players and plan your moves accordingly. Think several steps ahead and anticipate the moves of your opponents.
Knowing when to play a Nyet! card can also be a game-changer. These powerful cards can help you avoid winning unwanted tricks or secure valuable tricks. However, playing a Nyet! card too early could backfire, so timing is crucial.
Conclusion
Nyet! is an engaging and challenging card game that will put your strategic thinking to the test. By carefully planning your moves, observing your opponents, and mastering the art of timing, you can become a Nyet! champion. So gather your friends, shuffle the cards, and let the games begin!
When we play this game, we divide into 2 teams. Our goal is to score points by taking tricks. What’s interesting is that each trick is affected by the decisions we make at the beginning of the round. We get to choose the colors of the trump and the value of the trick.
Now, here’s where things get really exciting. Every round, we each get to place a NY3T! token on one of the boxes on the gameboard. We can choose whichever box we want, and it determines what is NOT allowed in the round. For example, if I put my token on the red trump box, then red cannot be the trump for that round.

Specifications of Game Setup
Bonus Card X2
Hey there! This special card is pretty cool, but it’s only for when you’re playing with 3 or 5 people.
In games where it’s 1 vs. 2 or 2 vs. 3, one player on the smaller team gets the Bonus card.
So here’s the deal: the first player gets to decide who on the smaller team gets the Bonus card. And guess what? You can even give it to yourself! This card lets you double your points. How awesome is that?
5 Players
Alright, listen up. If you’re playing with 5 people, you’ll need all 60 cards. Got it? Great. Now, each player gets dealt 12 cards. The teams are gonna be 3 vs. 2.
The first player gets to pick whether they want to be on the 2-player team or the 3-player team. And get this – they also get to choose who plays on each team. They’re like the team captain or something.
Oh, and don’t forget – the first player hands out the Bonus card to someone on the 2-player team. Keep in mind that the game ends after 10 rounds.
4 Players
Alright, folks. If you’ve got 4 people ready to play, you’re gonna need all 60 cards. And each player gets 15 cards. Make sure you deal ’em out right.
Now, the teams are gonna be 2 vs. 2. And the first player? Well, they get to choose their teammate. They’re the ones who get to decide who’s on their side.
Just a heads up – the game only goes on for 8 rounds. So make sure you give it your all!
3 Players
To play the game, you’ll need a deck of cards. Start by removing cards 11, 12, and 13 from each color, leaving you with a deck of 48 cards. Next, deal 16 cards to each player. The players will form teams – one is Team 1 and the other is Team 2. The first player gets to choose whether they play alone or with a partner. If they choose to play alone, they receive the Bonus card.
The game consists of 9 rounds. After each round, the game ends.
For 2 players:
If there are only 2 players, you’ll use all 60 cards in the deck. Deal 15 cards to each player. The remaining 30 cards are set aside face-down and not used in the current round. However, they will be shuffled back into the deck for subsequent rounds. The game ends after 8 rounds.
How to Play
The game is divided into rounds, and each round has two phases: the Nyet! phase and the trick phase. During the Nyet! phase, the rules for the round are determined.
Playing a Round
To start a round, the dealer shuffles the cards and deals them to the players. Then, move on to the Nyet! phase.
The Nyet! Phase
When we start playing, we all take a moment to look at the cards we have. It’s like peering into a mysterious world, full of possibilities. We understand that these cards hold the key to our fate in the game. Excitement fills the air as we get ready for the upcoming round.
But here’s the twist – we don’t just sit back and let fate decide our destiny. Oh no, we have a secret weapon – the Nyet! tokens. These little game-changers allow us to have a say in the terms of the round. They give us the power to shape our destiny and influence the flow of the game.
So, armed with our Nyet! tokens, we strategize and plot. Our minds are racing with ideas, trying to anticipate what the other players might do. It’s a battle of wits and cunning, as each of us tries to outsmart the rest.
But there’s a catch. The Nyet! tokens are a double-edged sword. They can elevate us to the position of power or bring us crashing down in defeat. It all depends on how we use them and the choices we make.
As I hold my Nyet! tokens in my hand, a surge of adrenaline courses through my veins. I feel a rush of excitement and anticipation. Will I be able to use these tokens to my advantage? Will I be able to steer the game in my favor?
Only time will tell. The Nyet! phase is about to begin, and it’s up to me to make the most of this opportunity. I take a deep breath, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead. With my Nyet! tokens in hand, I am ready to conquer the game.
When playing the game Nyet!, the first thing I do as the dealer is place one of my Nyet! tokens on an empty box that corresponds to a symbol of my choice on the game board. Let’s say I have a lot of blue cards, so I decide to cover the box with a Nyet! token, which means that blue is not a trump for this round.
Now it’s your turn. You continue the game by placing a token on another symbol of your choice, moving clockwise around the board. The goal is to cover one symbol on each line until there is only one empty box left per line. Once a line has only one empty box, no more tokens can be placed on that line.
Welcome to the Gameboard!
Let me break down each line of the board for you:
On each line, you’ll find important information for the current round.
Take a look at the empty boxes:
- Line 1: This shows the first player of the round.
- Line 2: Here, you’ll see the number of cards that need to be discarded by each player. These cards won’t be used in the round and won’t count towards points.
- Line 3: The color of the trump card is displayed on this line.
- Line 4: This line tells you the color of the supertrump card for the round.
- Line 5: You’ll find the value of a trick and the loot on this line. It’s an important piece of information.
Line 1: First Player
Before we start the round, the first player needs to choose their team. The other players will automatically become the opposing team. The first player will also be in charge of deciding who gets the Bonus card and will take the first turn.
Line 2: Discard Cards
In this round, every player has to get rid of a specific number of cards. Don’t worry, though, these discarded cards won’t be used during the round and won’t contribute to the final score. They’re just set aside for now.
When you see an empty box labeled “except 1,” it means that you need to get rid of one card from your hand, but you can’t choose a card with a value of 1. So make sure to consider all the cards you have and pick one to discard, keeping in mind that the 1s are off-limits.
Another box you might come across is labeled “pass left.” If this box is empty, it means that every player must give one card to the player sitting on their left. So take a look at the cards in your hand and choose one to pass to your left, making sure to follow this rule. Passing cards can add an exciting twist to the game!
Lastly, there’s a box called “Nyet!” If this box is empty, it means that you don’t need to discard any cards. You can hold onto all the cards in your hand and continue playing as usual. Isn’t it nice to catch a break sometimes?
Let’s Talk About Trump
Have you ever played a card game where one of the colors is more powerful than the others? That’s what we call the “trump” color. In this game, the trump color can be blue, red, yellow, or green.
What are the Supertrumps?
Supertrumps are special cards in the game. They have a value of 1 and come in different colors, such as blue, red, yellow, or green. However, there can also be no Supertrump at all.
During the Nyet! phase, if you happen to pick a Supertrump, something interesting happens. It becomes a double agent! No matter what color it was originally, the Supertrump will take on the color of the Trump card in the trick phase.
Scoring Points (trick/loot)
Don’t worry about the value of the cards when it comes to scoring. Every trick I win and every 1-value card that the other team takes (loot) earns us points. If I win a trick or a card worth 1, we get the number of points we chose. But be careful! If the other team takes a trick or a 1-value card, we actually lose points. Those are the ones in red, and each one is worth -2 points.

The Tricky Phase
Before we get into the tricky phase, there are a few things we need to do:
- I pick my teammates.
- We get rid of some cards or pass them around.
Now we’re ready to start the first trick. I’ll go first and play a card face-up in front of me. Then it’s your turn, and we’ll keep going around clockwise. Here are the rules:
- If you can, you need to match the color I led with.
- If you can’t match the color, you can play any card from your hand, even a special Trump or Supertrump card.
- If I led with a Trump card, you must play a Trump or Supertrump card if you can.
- If I led with a Supertrump card, you must play a Trump or Supertrump card if you can.
After each player has played a card, we’ll see who wins the trick. Let’s keep playing and have some fun!
Let’s look at an example of a game with 5 players: In the first line, there is an empty box. So, the Wolf player can pick 3 players to form a team with the Crane and Tiger players. They also get to choose whether the Bonus card goes to the Bear or Eagle player.
In the second line, there is another empty box called NY3T!, which means no cards are discarded. The third line tells us that the trump color for this round is yellow. And the fourth line let’s us know that the blue 1-value cards are the supertrumps.
Lastly, the fifth line shows that in this round, every trick and loot are worth 2 points.
Who Wins the Game?
When playing a card game, determining who wins each round can be quite tricky. Let me break it down for you:
- First off, let’s talk about regular cards. The card with the highest value in the same color as the starting card is the winner. However, if multiple cards of the same value and color are played, the last card played takes the round. This rule applies to both regular cards and trumps.
- Now, let’s move on to trumps. If one or more trumps are played without a supertrump, then the trump card with the highest value becomes the victor.
- Finally, we have the mighty supertrumps. Once a supertrump is played, it automatically wins the round. No questions asked.
When a player wins a round, they collect the cards and create a separate stack in front of them. It’s important to stack each trick won separately to keep things organized.
Once all the rounds have been played and no one has any cards left in their hand, it’s time to tally up the points and see who reigns supreme.
When we play this game, it’s all about counting the tricks we win and the Loot we capture (don’t worry, I’ll explain what that means!). We take those numbers and multiply them by the points shown on Line 5 of the game board. Then, we write down our results on the scorepad.
Now, let’s talk about the Loot.
If an opponent plays a 1-value card in a trick, and I win that trick, I get to snatch the card and keep it for myself. This means that all the 1-value cards can be won as Loot by the other players.
When I take a trick, any 1-value cards played by my opponents go straight into my stash. I can collect up to 3 Loot cards in one trick, which is pretty awesome.
Here’s an example of how it works:
So, here’s what happened: It was a game with three players – player 1, player 2, and player 3. Player 1 started things off by playing a green 9 card. Then, player 2 played a green 1 card, and player 3 played a green 4 card.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. Player 4, who’s on the opposing team, didn’t have any green cards to play. But don’t worry, they had a trick up their sleeve. They chose to play a yellow 1 card, which happens to be a trump card.
Now, it’s time for the final player, player 5, who’s on the same team as player 1. Just like player 4, they didn’t have any green cards either. So, they decided to play a yellow 7 card. And guess what? Player 5 won the trick and took all the cards!
Player 5 knew what to do next. They placed the yellow 1 card in front of them and stacked the other four cards face-down next to it. But here’s an important detail: the green 1 card that player 2 played wasn’t considered a loot card because it was played by one of player 5’s teammates.
New Round
After the scoring was done, the NY3T! tokens were removed from the gameboard. And then, the player to the left of the last dealer became the new dealer. That person shuffled and dealt the cards, and a new round began.
End of the Game
The game keeps going for a certain number of rounds, as indicated in the chart. And that’s when the game comes to an end.
When we play the game, each one of us will get a turn as the dealer. It’s a fair system because everyone gets the same opportunity.
The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible. At the end, the player who has the highest score is the winner. If two or more players have the same score, they all become winners.
There’s another way to play
You can also choose to play with a different ending. Instead of counting rounds, you can play until someone reaches 100 points. This adds a different challenge to the game and keeps things interesting.
