How to Play the Medium Game
Hey there! Are you ready to dive into the world of the Medium Game? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Today, I’m going to walk you through the rules and give you a head start on your mediumship journey. Let’s get started!
Setting Up
To begin, find a quiet and comfortable space where you can fully immerse yourself in the game. This is your sacred zone, your connection to the other side. So, make sure you’re in a place where you feel safe and calm.
Now, grab a pen and a piece of paper. You’re going to need these to jot down any messages or images that come to you during the game. Trust me, you won’t want to miss anything!
Connecting
Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Feel yourself grounding into the present moment. Relax your body and let go of any tension or stress you may be carrying.
As you open your eyes, focus on the game’s box. Feel the energy emanating from it. This is where the magic happens.
Reach out and touch the box. Imagine a bridge forming between you and the spirit realm. Visualize this bridge getting stronger with every breath you take.
Receiving
Now, it’s time to open the box. As you do, feel the energy flowing through you. Take a moment to appreciate the connection you’re about to make.
Inside the box, you’ll find a deck of cards. These cards hold the messages from the spirits. You are the medium, the channel through which these messages will pass.
Pick up the deck and shuffle it. This is an important step, as it allows the spirits to mingle and mix their energies within the cards.
As you shuffle, focus on a question or intention you have. Ask the spirits to guide you and provide the answers you seek.
Interpreting
Now, it’s time to draw a card. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and ask the spirits to reveal the card with the message you need.
When you’re ready, open your eyes and draw a card from the deck. Look at the image on the card and let your intuition guide you. What thoughts or feelings come up?
Write down any messages or insights that come to you. Don’t worry about making sense of them right away. Trust that the spirits are speaking through you, and the meaning will become clear in time.
Continuing the Journey
Congratulations! You’ve completed your first reading. Now, it’s time to continue exploring the messages from the spirits and developing your mediumship skills.
Remember, the Medium Game is not just about receiving messages; it’s also about deepening your connection with the spirit realm. The more you practice and trust yourself, the stronger your abilities will become.
So, dive in, have fun, and let the spirits guide you on this incredible journey. Happy mediumship!

Imagine playing a game of Medium. It’s filled with excitement, mystery, and mind-bending fun. A key part of this game is the set of cards that you use. Each card has a number in the corner, which helps you make psychic connections with your fellow players. When you set up your Medium deck, remember to use one less set than the number of players. For example, if there are four players, you’ll need three sets of cards. You can choose these sets at random. Let’s say we’re playing with four players. We might choose sets 8, 13, and 14. These sets will help us tap into our psychic abilities and make the game even more exciting.

To add an extra sprinkle of magic to the game, we have Crystal Ball cards. These cards are like windows into the future, and they add an extra layer of mystery and intrigue.
Now, we’re ready to begin. Each player starts with six cards, which are placed face-down. These cards hold the key to unraveling the psychic connections and unlocking the secrets of the game.
In the center of the table, we place the Mind Meld tokens, point-side-down. They’re like little tokens of telepathy, waiting to be discovered.
The stage is set. Let the mind-bending adventure of Medium begin. Are you ready to tap into your psychic powers and make some mind-blowing connections? Get ready to go on a journey like no other. Let’s dive in and see what the universe has in store for us.
Let’s get started by organizing the cards into three piles: one for our first attempts, one for our second attempts, and one for our third attempts.
We need to randomly select a player to go first.
Now, it’s time to play the game!
Phase One: Find the Medium
Step 1: The game begins with one player playing a card, followed by their partner.
On your turn, you will be partnered with the player on your left. They will choose a card from their hand and play it face-up in front of you. Then, you will select a card from your own hand and play it next to your partner’s card, also face-up.
Remember to say the word out loud as you play the card. With these two words, you and your partner will work together to find the Medium.
The Medium: This is the word that connects the two words on your cards. It could be the word that the two words suggest, the word that is defined by them, or even a compromise between them.
Step 2: Let’s try to match with our partner.
I need to mentally connect with my partner to find a word. I can take a deep breath if I want, or just relax. First, I need to make sure my partner is ready. Then, we can count down together:
THREE. TWO. ONE. After that, I will say the word that I think is the Medium.
For example, if the words are:
TACO and BEACH: Maybe the Medium is SHELL?
SNOW and SIDEWALK: It could be SHOVEL.
LARGE and SMALL: The Medium is literally MEDIUM.
If I match with my partner, that’s called a Mind Meld! We get a Mind Meld token from the First Attempt pile, which is worth 5 or 6 points. We should put it between us to keep track of our shared tokens. Then, it’s the next person’s turn to play.
So, if you and your partner don’t agree on the first try, don’t worry! You get another shot at matching by using the words you just said instead of the words on the cards.
Let me give you an example. Let’s say the cards you had were “TIGER” and “BLACK.” On your first try, you said “PANTHER,” but your partner said “STRIPE.” Well, now “PANTHER” and “STRIPE” are the words you’ll use to find the Medium on your second try. Just remember, you can’t use any of the words from the original cards, so no “TIGER” this time.
If you manage to match on your second attempt, you’ll earn a Mind Meld token worth 3 or 4 points. Take that token from the Second Attempt pile and place it in a pile between you and your partner.
Hey there! So, let me explain the game to you. On your second attempt, if you still haven’t found a matching word, you only have one more shot. But here’s the catch: you can’t use any of the words you’ve mentioned before as the Medium. Cool, right?
If you want to try a Mind Meld, go for it! You’ll get a Third Attempt token worth 1 or 2 points. Just pop it into the pile of tokens you’re sharing with your partner, and your turn is done.
If you don’t find a match after your third attempt, that’s it. No points for you this round. But hey, don’t feel bad about it. Even Medium players struggle with this sometimes!
Phase Two: Time to Fill Up Your Hand
Once your turn is over, put the words you used into the discard pile. Then, both you and your partner draw a card so that each of you has a fresh new hand of six cards. Ready for the next round!
Keep the Game Going
Now it’s my turn to tell you what happens next in the game! Pay close attention as I explain how the game progresses around the table. This is going to be fun!
So, now that your partner has taken their turn, it’s time for them to pass the torch to the player on their left. That player is going to get their chance to play a card and make their move. Exciting, right? Just wait, because it’s about to get even better!
Here’s the best part: the player sitting to your right will be anxiously waiting for their turn to come. They’ll be eager to join forces with you and create a perfect mind meld. Imagine the satisfaction you’ll feel when that happens – it’s going to be fantastic!
So, get ready! Take a moment to strategize and plan your next move. The game is in full swing, and it’s your time to shine. Keep your wits about you and play your card wisely. After all, the player to your right is counting on you to make that mind meld happen.

Hey there, check out this awesome diagram of a 6-player game!
When we play, we go in a circle, moving in a clockwise direction.
Take a look at the arrows in the diagram. They show you who each player is partners with during the game. In a 6-player game like this, there are a total of 6 teams.
Now, let’s talk about the Extra Special Power (ESP) Cards.
After you’ve played a few games, you can spice things up by adding the Extra Special Power (ESP) cards. These cards give each player a unique power that they can use once during the game. In Medium, there are two ESP cards: Psychic Link and Clear Mind.
At the start of the game, give each player one Psychic Link card and one Clear Mind card. Place these cards face-up on the table in front of each player, so everyone can see the colorful side with the points and card text. When a player uses one of these powers, they will flip the card face-down to the black and white side. Each unused ESP card is worth 2 points, which are shared with your partner(s) at the end of the game.
In the game of ESP, only one player can use an ESP card during a turn. If multiple players try to play one, the person who flipped their card first gets to use it.
Don’t forget to add the points from unused ESP cards to your total at the end of the game. If you’re playing with partners, include their points too.
The Psychic Link
Try to predict what your opponents will say.
When it’s another team’s turn and they reveal their cards, you can join in. Count down and say your word at the same time. Here are the possible outcomes:
- If all three of you match on the first attempt, you and the team you played with earn a First Attempt Mind Meld token.
Let me break it down for you. In this game, there are a few things that can happen when it’s your turn to guess. Here are the options:
1. You guess correctly and match with one player on the other team. In this case, you get a First Attempt Mind Meld token and the other team gets to try again.
2. If you don’t guess correctly and nobody on the other team does either, you’re out of the game and the other team gets to keep playing.
3. Lastly, if the other team guesses correctly but you don’t, they get a token and you don’t.
Remember, any points earned from Psychic Link are shared with your teammates.
Now, let’s talk about Clear Mind. This special card allows you to refresh your hand. At the beginning of your turn, you can play this card to discard as many cards as you want from your hand. Then, you draw back up to six cards. If you happen to draw a Crystal Ball card, you place it face-up on the table and continue drawing cards until you have six again.
So there you have it! These are the different outcomes and the benefits of the Clear Mind card in the game. Good luck and have fun!
Game Over
Keep playing until the crystal ball breaks
Hey there! So, you wanna play a game, huh? Well, let me tell ya, this ain’t your average game. This is the real deal. The end of the line. The final countdown. And let me warn you, it’s not gonna be a walk in the park.
Now, here’s the deal. You see that beautiful crystal ball in front of you? Yeah, that one. Well, you gotta keep playing until that sucker shatters into a million pieces. That’s right, your job is to keep going until there’s nothing left of that ball but a pile of shards.
Sounds easy, right? Well, think again. This game is no joke. You’re gonna have to bring your A-game if you wanna stand a chance. It’s gonna test your skills, your reflexes, and your patience. But hey, that’s all part of the fun, right?
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Why would I wanna play a game that’s so hard?” Well, my friend, sometimes the greatest satisfaction comes from overcoming a challenge. The feeling you’ll get when that crystal ball finally breaks will be like nothing you’ve ever felt before. It’s an adrenaline rush, a surge of pure joy. Trust me, it’s worth it.
So, what are you waiting for? Are you ready to take on this epic quest? To face the impossible and come out on top? I believe in you, my friend. I know you’ve got what it takes to conquer this game. So go out there and give it your all. Show that crystal ball who’s boss!
Remember, the game isn’t over until that ball shatters. And when it does, oh boy, you’ll know you’ve achieved something truly great. So get out there and make it happen. Good luck, my friend. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Once you draw the very first Crystal Ball card, you’ll put it down face-up right in the middle of the table.
More and more, the energy of everyone in our group starts to mesh together, making the crystal ball start to crack! That’s when we draw another card. Make sure you have six cards in total. And when the second Crystal Ball card gets drawn, we do the same thing.
But oh no, the crystal ball doesn’t hold up against all that mental power! It keeps breaking apart as we keep drawing cards. Finally, when the third and last Crystal Ball card is drawn, it completely shatters our crystal ball. And that’s when we know the psychic connection in the room is gone.
We’ll finish playing the round we’re on, so that each team gets the same number of turns before the game ends. And when it does end, it’s the team of the player who started, along with the player on their right side.
Time to tally up the scores and see who came out on top!
Hey there! So, since you’re on two teams, you actually get two scores to keep track of. Pretty cool, right? You have one score for the player on your left and another score for the player on your right. Just add up the points from your shared pile of Mind Meld tokens and any unused ESP cards, if you’re using them.
Now, the team with the most points is the winner. I mean, who doesn’t love points and winning, right? But hey, if there’s a tie, no worries! We can just call it a tie and move on. No need to stress about it.
Alternate Rules
Playing In Teams
If you have an even number of people, you can choose to play on a team with a specific partner instead of playing with the person to your left and right.
Partner with the person sitting across from you for the whole game. Each turn, take turns playing the first card. The team’s score includes all points earned from ESP cards.
The diagram above shows a 6-player game. In a 6-player game like this, there are only 3 teams.
Games for Two Players
For two players, use three sets, shuffle in the Crystal Ball cards, don’t use ESP cards, play as one team, and count your shared points. Just play for fun!
What You Need to Know
Yes, you can use proper nouns.
No, it doesn’t have to be one word – just one idea. Something like GARLIC BREAD or WASHING MACHINE or LADY BIRD JOHNSON is totally fine.
But you do have to say a word. If you count down,
“3. 2. 1..”.and you don’t say anything, your turn is immediately over. So make sure your partner is ready before starting the countdown.
The rest of the table decides if two words are a match or not, and the official rule is: be cool about this.
Here’s a tip: You’re more likely to get a match if your guesses are more general than specific.
You’re more likely to match on WIZARD than on MERLIN or on FLOWER rather than HYDRANGEA.
But the most important thing we can tell you is: keep the game moving. Go with your first instinct. Maybe you’ll get it right away, or maybe you’ll get it on the second try. Just have fun.
The best way to play Medium is the way you and your friends like to play. The only way to match is to say the word your friend is thinking. And the best way to connect with your partner is to look into their eyes and mentally send your word to them through your psychic link. Feel the psychic energy in the room.
