Essential Elements
Ah, the allure of Influence: a force that shapes our world and influences our decisions. But what exactly is it? And how does it work? Let me break it down for you in simple terms.
Influence can be a tricky thing. It can sway opinions, guide actions, and make things happen. But it’s not always easy to understand or control. The thing about Influence is that it’s like a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can elevate your status and help you achieve great things. On the other hand, it can also be a force that’s hard to control and can lead to unintended consequences.
So, how do we navigate this complex world of Influence? Well, it all starts with understanding the key components. There are various factors that come into play when it comes to Influence, and it’s important to take them all into account.
When you’re looking for Influence, there are a few things to keep in mind. First and foremost, you need to choose the right cards. These cards are like your tools, and they come in different forms, each with its own unique power. Some cards have a direct impact, while others have a more subtle influence. It’s up to you to decide which cards to play and when.
Then, there’s the question of timing. Timing is everything in the world of Influence. Knowing when to act and when to hold back can be the difference between success and failure. So, always keep an eye on the board and pay attention to what others are doing. This will give you valuable insights into their strategies and help you make better decisions.
Of course, there’s also the matter of negotiation. Influence is not just about taking action, but also about building relationships. You need to be able to convince others of your ideas and gain their support. This is where the art of negotiation comes in. Learn to read people, understand their motivations, and find common ground. This will give you a powerful advantage in your quest for Influence.
Ultimately, Influence is about power and control. It’s about shaping the world according to your vision and making a lasting impact. So, if you’re ready to step into the world of Influence, then you’ll love this game. With its mix of strategy, negotiation, and unpredictable twists, it’s sure to keep you entertained for hours.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your cards, gather your allies, and dive into the world of Influence. The board is set, and the game is about to begin. Are you ready to make your mark?
Hey there! Let’s take a closer look at this unique gameboard. It’s like a treasure map with 16 potential business opportunities just waiting to be explored.
On each deal, you’ll find two important details. First, there’s the number of dividends that will be paid out. These dividends represent the profits you can earn if you invest wisely. Second, you’ll see the specific investors required to make the deal happen. These are the people who hold the keys to unlock those dividends.
The number of investors needed for a deal impacts the amount of dividends you’ll receive. More investors mean higher dividends, so choose your deals wisely!
It’s important to note that the value of each dividend is determined when the deal is made. This means that the potential earnings can change throughout the game, keeping things exciting and unpredictable.
Example: I need the Red, Blue, and Yellow Clans to come together, along with 2 investors from the Magenta, Orange, and Green Clans – a total of 5 investors.
Goal of the Game
My goal is to bring investors together and make deals, earning money and dividends along the way. I can also participate in other players’ deals to make some extra cash. The player with the most money at the end of the game wins.
Setting Up
I am representing one or more investor clans, also known as Investors, throughout the game. Let’s shuffle the 6 Investor placards, which have investors on both sides, and give one to each player.
Alright, here’s what you need to get started with this game:
If there are 3 players, each of you will get two Investor placards. But if there are 4 or 5 players, the extra Investor placards will be placed face up next to the game board. You’ll need to place your Investor placards in front of you on the table to represent the clans you’re playing as.
Next, shuffle the deck of Influence cards and deal 5 cards face down to each player. These cards will be your starting hand. The remaining deck is placed face down in the middle of the board. Make sure no one else sees your cards!
Now, stack the deal cards in order from #1 to #15. Put them in the middle of the board. The top deal card will show you the current value of each dividend. The dividend values will increase as the game goes on.
Hey there! Let’s get this game started, shall we? First things first, we need to choose someone to be the banker. This person will handle all the money stuff and make sure everyone gets paid when a deal is made. Remember, everyone starts with empty pockets!
Now, let’s decide who gets to take the first turn. We’ll do this by randomly choosing someone. Once that’s settled, the player to their right can place the marker on any space on the board. And with that, the game is officially underway!
How to Play
When it’s my turn, I get to make a choice:
- I can try to make a deal where the marker stands.
- I can roll the die and move the marker clockwise the indicated number of spaces, but I have to skip over board spaces that have deal cards.
When I reach the new space, I have another choice:
- I can try to make the deal that’s shown on this space.
- I can draw three cards from the deck of Influence cards. But I can’t hold more than 12 cards. If I draw more than 12 cards, I have to immediately get rid of some until I have 12 cards, or I can play a Recruitment triple.
Whether I choose to draw cards, make a deal, or unfortunately fail to make a deal, the player to my left (most of the time) will take the next turn.
Tip: Before we begin, make sure to gather enough cards to give yourself an advantage during negotiations and protect yourself from other players’ moves.
Time to Strike a Bargain
Hey there! When you say these words, you kickstart negotiations for the deal at the place where the marker is. Until you make this announcement, your rivals can’t say or do anything to sway your decision or play any cards that could influence you. This puts you in charge of the deal, and your goal is to get the Investors listed here to agree to make the deal with you.
If you see a big colored box in this space, it means that the Investor Clan mentioned there must take part in the deal. Next to a list of smaller colored boxes, you’ll find a number that tells you how many Investors from that list need to agree in addition to the bigger colored Clan boxes. Now, let’s talk about how to actually make the deal.
- When you’re the Boss, you automatically have the agreement of the Investors you represent. For example, if a deal requires the Red and Orange Investors and you hold both of these Investor placards, then you have their agreement.
- If necessary, you can add other required Investors to the deal by playing Clan cards from your hand and placing them face up in front of you.
When you try to make a deal, all players can join or interfere in the process. There is no specific order, and any player can participate at any time by:
- joining in negotiations, or
- playing Influence cards.
Joining in Negotiations
Players who have Investor placards or Clan cards in hand that are needed for a deal can negotiate with the Boss.
If you have an Investor placard, you can offer to let the Boss use that Investor right away. But if you have a Clan card, you have to first put it down in front of you for everyone to see. It shows that you control a Clan member who represents the Investor.
After that, you can negotiate with the Boss about how much it will cost to get the Investor or Clan member to agree to the deal.
The negotiations are only about cash payments for the current deal. You can ask for a dividend or any other amount of money. As the Boss, you have to decide if you’re willing to pay that price to get the Investor’s agreement!
You can’t make any payments before the deal closes. All payments are made only afterward. Once you play a Clan card, it stays on the table in front of you, even if the Boss doesn’t agree to pay the requested amount.
When it comes to Clan negotiations, there’s a fascinating dynamic at play. Since there are multiple Clan cards, it’s possible for more than one player to represent the same Investor in these negotiations. This gives the Boss the power to choose who they want to include in a deal.
Using Influence Cards
Every player, including the Boss, has the ability to use Influence cards to sway the negotiations in their favor or respond to the actions of others. What’s interesting is that players can play these cards at any point during the negotiations, without having to take turns.
Travel Cards (21)
Hey there! Let me tell you about Travel cards. They’re pretty cool! So, you can play a Travel card on a matching Investor placard or Clan card, and it kind of kicks that card out of the current deal. It’s like saying, “Sorry, you can’t join us right now!”
Now, the deck has three Travel cards for each Clan. Those cards can only be played on the matching Investor placard or Clan card. But wait, there’s more! The deck also has three gray Travel cards. And you know what’s special about them? They can be played on any Investor placard or Clan card! It’s like these cards have VIP access or something.
It’s pretty neat, right? Travel cards can shake things up and make the game more exciting. Who doesn’t love a little twist? So, keep an eye out for them when you’re playing. They might just help you out!
When I play a Travel card on an Investor placard, it stays there until the end of the negotiation round. Then, it goes to the discard pile. But if I play a Travel card on a Clan card, both cards are immediately discarded.
Travel cards have the power to influence the negotiation game.
Recruitment Cards (33)
Hey there! So, let me tell you about these awesome Recruitment Cards. They’re super special because you have to play them in sets of three, otherwise they’re totally useless. But don’t worry, once you play and discard a Recruitment triple, something really cool happens. You actually get to steal another player’s Investor placard and make it your very own. How cool is that? Oh, and just a quick tip – if you’re playing with 4 or 5 players, make sure to recruit the extra Investor placards near the board first. And yeah, one more thing – you can’t recruit Clan cards. They’re off-limits. But hey, don’t let that stop you from having a blast with the Recruitment Cards!
Boss Cards (10)
When I play this card and confidently say “I’m the Boss!”, I take control from the current Boss. Now, I get to call the shots and lead the negotiations for this deal. It’s pretty exciting!
All those Clan cards that have been played before stay on the table. And if anyone got sent Traveling, well, they’re still out of the game. But don’t worry, the former Boss can still be part of the negotiations and play their own cards.
You know, it’s possible for multiple Boss cards to be played in a single negotiation round. But here’s the thing: The person who played the last Boss card, they’re the one who gets to own the deal. And the player to their left, well, they’ll be up next. So, some players might have to hold their horses and wait a bit before it’s their turn.
Stop Cards (10)
If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to stop a certain action in a game, a STOP card is your best friend. It can be played immediately after a Travel card, a Boss card, or a Recruitment triple.
Here’s a tip: If you want to make things more interesting, you can also agree that the Boss must ask each player if they want to play cards before the Deal is concluded. Just a harmless variant to keep things exciting!
The purpose of a STOP card is to cancel the effect of the card it is played on. However, it’s important to note that a STOP card cannot be used to cancel another STOP card. However, there is one cool twist. If you want to help another player, you can play a STOP card to protect their negotiations or for any other reason.
Closing the Deal
Now, let’s talk about closing the deal. No matter who the Boss is, once you have the support of all the required Investors or Clan members for the current deal, it’s time to announce the terms of the deal. And then, you say the magical words: “Going once, going twice-the deal is closed!” Once the deal is closed, it’s important to remember that you can’t play any Influence cards.
If I play a Clan card and it’s not involved in the deal or sent on Travel, I can return that card to my hand. All other played Influence cards go on the discard pile. When the deck of Influence cards runs out, I shuffle the discard pile and put it face down as a new draw pile.
The banker pays me, the Boss, the dividends shown on the board space. The value of each dividend is determined by the top deal card.
Once I receive the dividends, it’s my responsibility to pay the other players the amounts we agreed on during negotiations. I have to honor all agreements for payment!
After I’ve made all the payments, I put the top deal card face down on this board space and move the marker clockwise to the next available space. Then it’s the player to my left who takes the next turn.
Not Able to Make a Deal
If you can’t find the investors or clan members you need, you have to admit that the negotiations didn’t work out. This isn’t ideal, but sometimes it’s the only option when others are being too demanding.
Sometimes, an investor is unavailable and there’s no one else in the clan who can help out. In these cases, the clan cards that have already been played are returned to our hands. Any other influence cards that were played are discarded.
Remember: When a deal falls through, it’s the next player’s turn, starting with the person on the left of the boss. The boss can’t start negotiations again, roll the dice, or draw more influence cards.
Game Money
To play the game, you need to follow a simple rule: keep your money visible on the table. You can stack it face-down, so other players can’t see the total amount. They may try to guess how much you have, but they can’t touch or count your money themselves.
Game Over
Once we reach the tenth deal and every deal after that, the Boss is going to take the deal card and put it on the board. Then, the Boss rolls the die. If the number on the die matches one of the numbers on the back of the deal card, it’s game over! But if not, the game keeps going.
Even if the dice doesn’t trigger the end, the game will still automatically stop after the fifteenth deal. At that point, it’s time to count up our money. The player with the most cash is the winner!
