Hoshi Battle Game Rules
Hi there! Are you ready to learn the rules of the Hoshi Battle game? Great! Let’s dive in and discover the exciting world of Hoshi Battle.
In Hoshi Battle, the goal is simple: be the first player to capture five Hoshi stones. Now, you might be wondering, what are these Hoshi stones? Well, they are special magical stones that hold immense power. Legend says that whoever possesses five of these stones can unlock unimaginable abilities.
So, how do you play the game and capture these valuable Hoshi stones? Let me walk you through it.
First, you and your opponent will sit across from each other, facing the game board. The game board consists of a 7×7 grid with different symbols on each cell. These symbols represent the Hoshi stones.
Now, here comes the challenging part. On your turn, you must carefully choose a cell on the game board and remove the symbol from that cell. You can only remove a symbol if it is adjacent to another symbol or if it has at least one free side. This means that you can’t remove symbols from the corners or edges of the game board.
Once you remove a symbol, it’s time to strategize. You can choose to place the symbol you just removed anywhere on the game board, as long as it follows the same rules mentioned earlier. This is where your decision-making skills come into play. Should you place the symbol close to your opponent’s symbols to hinder their progress, or should you focus on your own strategy?
As the game progresses, the board will start to change, and new opportunities will arise. The key to success in Hoshi Battle is to carefully plan your moves and anticipate your opponent’s next move. Flexibility and adaptability are crucial in this game.
Remember, the first player to capture five Hoshi stones wins the game. It’s not just about luck; it’s about strategy, cunning, and the ability to outmaneuver your opponent.
So, are you ready to embark on an epic journey and become the ultimate Hoshi Battle champion? Gather your wits, sharpen your skills, and let the battle begin!

Setting Up the Game
Note: These instructions are for two players. Instructions for more players and different versions can be found at the end of these instructions.
You and your opponent sit across from each other, close enough to touch. Remove anything that might distract you and clear the play area. Keep the dice and Hoshi Stones within reach. Place The Arena in the center, between the two of you.
- First, mix up the Hero cards and the Duel cards.
- Next, give each player five Heroes. Pick three that you like and put the other two aside face down.
- Then, give each player five Duel cards. Choose three of them to keep and set aside the remaining two face down.
- Now, each player has a hand of six cards – three Heroes and three Duel cards.
Let’s Try Something Different
If you’re an experienced player, here’s a variant that you might want to give a shot: Combine steps 2 and 3 by dealing one less card of each type.
In simpler terms, deal four Heroes and four Duel cards to each player at the same time. Then, each player chooses three Heroes and three Duel cards from their eight cards.
Playing the Game
This game is all about going head-to-head in a series of intense Duels. The objective is to exile your opponent’s Heroes from the world. But before we dive in, let’s choose a starting player. Since the game is played simultaneously, the starting player is just the one who gets to reveal their cards first.
Kicking Off the Duel
It’s time to get the action started! Each player selects one Hero and one Duel card from their hand and places them face-down in front of themselves. Keep the rest of your cards set aside for now. Then, let’s begin with the starting player:
- Symbol 1: Represents something cool!
- Symbol 2: Represents another cool thing!
- Symbol 3: Represents yet another cool thing!
- Playing fair and respecting your opponent’s rolls is a must. No interference allowed!
- If you hurriedly pick up the die after rolling and it falls off the table, tough luck! The result is lost. Quick, roll again!
- When you roll a
, you have only one shot at hitting your opponent. If you miss, you can’t try again right away. Roll another
first. Quick, keep rolling!
- If you roll a
but your opponent goes into a defensive position, after a moment it will count as a miss. Both players must return to rolling!
As you reveal your chosen Hero, speak out the unique abilities that it possesses. Let’s take an example. If your Hero is the Lord of the Night, it has a remarkable ability which states: “When your opponent tries to hit you, they must cover their eye with one hand. If they fail to do so, the hit will be canceled”. It’s crucial that your opponent knows about this ability beforehand, so they can respond accordingly during the duel.
Let’s dive into the world of YourDuel cards! They add an extra layer of excitement and strategy to the game. I’ll explain how they work, using two examples: Rage and Backstab.
First up is Rage. The card tells me to play it after I’ve been hit. It’s like a secret weapon that I can unleash when the time is right. I don’t have to play it if I don’t want to. It’s all up to me! Just picture this: I’m in the heat of battle, and I take a hit. That’s when I can reveal my hidden Rage card and turn the tables on my opponent. Talk about a game-changer!
Now, let’s talk about Backstab. This one requires a little more finesse. I need to roll a special symbol and try to touch my opponent’s hand. If I succeed, then I get to reveal the Backstab card, and my opponent gets hit. It’s like a sneak attack that catches them off guard. But remember, I can only play this card after I’ve rolled the symbol and made contact with their hand. It’s a clever way to catch my opponent by surprise and nab one of their Hoshi Stones.
YourDuel cards are all about strategy and timing. They give me the power to turn the tides of battle and keep my opponents on their toes. It’s an exciting twist that adds a whole new level of excitement and unpredictability to the game. So, the next time you play YourDuel, don’t forget to take advantage of these incredible cards!
Hey there! Let me walk you through the basics of playing this cool game! First, grab a die for your Hero. It’s a good idea for you and your opponent to use different colored dice. Now, let’s take a look at the symbols on the three faces of the die:
Next, grab two Hoshi Stones and place them in front of you. These stones are important in the game.
Alright, now that you’re all set up, let’s get started! Count out loud from three to zero, and the Duel begins!
Fighting a Duel
The Duel is played in rounds. A round usually ends when one player gets “hit” and loses a Hoshi Stone.
During a Duel, there are some important rules you need to follow. Let me tell you about them.
Rules of the Duel
In a Duel, we don’t take turns! Both you and your opponent duel at the same time!
Just use one hand to play!
Roll your die as quickly as you can, together with your opponent. To roll faster, you can simply “pinch” and let go of your die, but make sure it actually lifts off the table and rolls. You can’t just push it around with your finger!
When you roll the die, the first thing you need to do is make sure it touches the area inside the Arena. This is really important because if the die doesn’t touch the Arena, the roll doesn’t count. Even if the die rolls out of the Arena, it’s still considered valid.
However, it’s crucial that you remember to roll the die inside the Arena when you pick it up again.
When you roll a dice, you have the chance to swing your hand and try to touch your opponent’s hand with the one they used to roll. Just give it a gentle tap! You can aim for either the palm or the back of their hand – both are considered fair targets.
If you manage to touch your opponent’s hand, you’ve successfully “hit” and the round comes to an end. Your opponent will then have to get rid of one of their Hoshi Stones. Once they’ve discarded a stone, the Duel continues with the next round.
If you don’t manage to make contact with your opponent, whether it’s because you missed or you touched them somewhere other than their hand, like their arm, it’s considered a “miss” and the round keeps going. To have another chance at hitting, you’ll need to roll again.
When you notice that your opponent has rolled a certain number or if you see them attempting to strike you, you can move your hand up to protect yourself. Essentially, you can take a defensive stance like this:
Note: Sometimes, when you touch your opponent’s hand, it doesn’t mean you’re actually hitting them. It’s crucial to refer to what the card says.
Let me give you an example. Suppose your Hero is the Fire Harpy. It says, “Roll : you may try to touch your opponent’s hand. If you succeed, he battles with the
for the rest of the Duel.” Now, let’s say you roll
and touch your opponent’s hand. In this case, it doesn’t count as a hit, and your opponent won’t lose a Hoshi Stone. However, they can still defend themselves if they see that you rolled @x.jpg!
The Conclusion of a Duel
If you run out of Hoshi Stones, you lose the Duel. Your Hero is taken out of the game and sent back to its own dimension. The Duel card you used for that Hero is discarded, regardless of whether you revealed or used it.
Now, you need to pick up the cards you set aside earlier and select a new Hero and Duel card for the next Duel. Just like before, reveal your Hero (and Duel card if necessary). The new Hero starts with full health, so you get your two Hoshi Stones back. And now, a new Duel can begin.
If you win the Duel, you continue to the next one using the same Hero and Duel card. You keep the same number of Hoshi Stones — your Hero doesn’t recover between Duels!
If your opponent runs out of Heroes, the game is over and you are the winner!
Game Over
If your opponent runs out of Heroes, the game is over and you win!
Code of Conduct
If we both roll the same number and touch each other simultaneously, it’s a draw and neither of us loses a Hoshi Stone. Let’s keep playing and roll again!
Just so you know, you can pretend to have rolled a result even if you didn’t, it’s called bluffing. But be careful, if you touch me while bluffing, you lose one Hoshi Stone!
If a dice falls off the table or if you’re not sure about a rule, you can ask for a timeout. The timeout starts after I finish my action, like rolling the dice and making a move. We’ll resume the game after a countdown.
Hey there! Let me break down the rules for you in a straightforward way.
If a card contradicts the rules, always go with what’s written on the card. And if there’s a situation that the rules don’t cover, just use your common sense and work it out fairly with your opponent.
Now, I have to emphasize that this game is all about fun and there’s no need for any physical force here. It’s just like playing “patty cake.” So, be gentle and don’t forget to take off your jewelry. Respect your opponent and play fair!
Constructed Deck Variant
Before the game starts, you and your opponent each need to prepare two decks. One deck should have four Heroes and the other deck should have four Duel cards. The total cost of the cards in both decks can’t exceed the agreed-upon amount of points (we suggest 40 points). Oh, and don’t include more than one copy of the same card in your decks.
Alright, let’s get started! First things first, let’s shuffle your Hero cards and Duel cards. Make sure to do this separately, okay? Once that’s done, draw three of each. Remember, we’re only using these cards for the game, so keep the rest aside.
Now, let’s dive into the duel. Keep going until all three of one player’s Heroes are exiled. And guess what? The other player wins the game! So make sure you strategize and play your cards wisely.
Oh, and here’s a fun tip! You can even combine this variant with the rules for three or more players. That way, you can have even more excitement and competition in your game.
