GUBS Game Rules

Welcome to the exciting world of GUBS, where mysterious creatures and perilous encounters await you! In this game, you’ll embark on a thrilling adventure filled with strategy and cunning.

So, let’s dive right in and uncover the rules of this captivating game.

First and foremost, you’ll need a deck of GUBS cards and a playing surface. The deck consists of various types of cards, each with its own unique abilities. These cards include GUBS, buildings, events, disruptions, and traps.

Your objective is to collect the most GUBS, the adorable creatures inhabiting this fantastical world. To do so, you’ll have to outmaneuver your opponents by cleverly using your cards.

At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt five cards. On your turn, you can either draw a card from the deck or play a card from your hand. Each card has specific instructions, such as allowing you to protect your GUBS, steal opponents’ GUBS, or unleash special powers.

But beware! Your opponents will try to foil your plans using cards of their own, so stay on your guard and adapt your strategies accordingly.

Whenever an event card is played, it affects all players and might shake up the game. These events can drastically alter the course of play, so be prepared for unexpected twists and turns.

Now, you may encounter disruptions and traps while playing, which may hinder your progress. Disruptions cause chaos on the playing field, while traps capture your precious GUBS. But fear not, for you can find ways to counter these obstacles using your clever wit.

The game continues until the deck is exhausted. At that point, the player with the most GUBS in their possession is declared the ultimate winner!

Remember, GUBS is not merely a game of luck, but a game of skill and strategy. By carefully planning your moves and anticipating your opponents’ actions, you can increase your chances of victory.

So, gather your friends and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of GUBS. Unleash your creativity and outsmart your opponents to emerge triumphant. Are you ready to embark on this thrilling journey? Let the adventure begin!

Imagine this: you and your friends are playing a game called Gubs. The goal is simple – be the player with the most Free and/or Protected Gubs in play when the final letter of the word G-U-B has been drawn from the deck.

Setting Up

  1. First, we need to prepare the deck. Take a look through the cards and remove one Gub card for each player, excluding the Esteemed Elder. Each player will start the game with a Gub card placed face up in front of them.
  2. Next, we need to take out the three Letter cards – G, U, and B – from the deck. Shuffle the remaining cards thoroughly, then carefully insert the Letter cards back into the deck. Place one near the top, one in the middle, and one near the bottom. Keep shuffling until the deck is mixed up nicely.
  3. To start the game, give each player three cards. If any of the cards are Event cards, which you can identify by the symbol shown in the image, mix them back into the deck and draw replacements. Keep your cards hidden from your opponents by holding them in your hand.
  4. Put the deck face down in the center of the playing area. Next to the deck, create a discard pile.

When it comes to playing games, there’s something truly magical about the experience. Whether I’m exploring vast virtual worlds or solving challenging puzzles, I find myself completely immersed in the gameplay. Playing games offers a unique opportunity to dive into different roles and engage with a variety of challenges. It’s like stepping into someone else’s shoes and experiencing a whole new reality. I can be a heroic adventurer, a skilled athlete, or a strategic mastermind – the possibilities are endless. The beauty of gaming lies in its ability to captivate and entertain. It takes me on a journey filled with excitement, suspense, and sometimes even fear. The adrenaline rush I feel when I’m on the brink of victory is exhilarating. From racing against the clock to solving complex mysteries, each game presents a fresh set of obstacles to overcome. But gaming is not just about entertainment. It also offers a host of cognitive benefits. By engaging in problem-solving and critical thinking, I sharpen my mental skills and improve my focus. Games challenge me to think creatively and come up with innovative strategies. They provide an avenue for learning and growth while keeping me engaged and entertained.

So, here’s how the game works. The person who came up with the idea gets to choose who goes first, and then we take turns in a clockwise direction. When it’s your turn, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Draw: Get a card. You can choose not to get one, but don’t do it two times in a row. You can’t get a card after you play cards.
  2. Play: Use the cards you have, as many or few as you want. You don’t have to use all your cards. Sometimes you can’t. Read what the cards say to know what they do. Look at the Card Guide on the back for more help.
  3. Discard: You can’t finish your turn with more than eight cards. If you have more, throw some away until you have eight. (Remember: If you have less than eight cards, you can’t throw away cards randomly).
  4. After you play a card or just get one and finish your turn, tell the next player it’s their turn by saying, “Go”.

The Game is Over

Once the third Letter card is drawn, that’s it – game over! The winner is the player who has the most Free and Protected Gubs in play.

Trapped Gubs and Gubs in your hand don’t count for points. If there’s a tie, the player who has the Esteemed Elder card in play takes the victory. And if no one has the Esteemed Elder, the person with the fewest cards in hand claims the win.

Let’s See an Example

Let’s talk about the deck and discard pile, they’re the cards placed between all players.

We’re in the near end of the game because two letter cards are already out.

I want you to take a look at the five main types of cards:

1 The GUBS cards enter play face up in front of their owners.

2 The BARRICADE cards go on top of Gubs to protect them.

3 The TRAP cards are placed over Gubs in play and stay there until they get destroyed. Any “Trapped” Gubs at the end of the game don’t count for points.

4 The TOOLS cards help your colony, while the 5 HAZARDS are used to attack or steal from your opponents.

Both types are discarded once they’re used.
