Rules for the Double Trouble Game
As we dive into the exciting world of the Double Trouble game, I want to make sure you understand the rules. It’s important that we’re all on the same page so that you can enjoy the game to the fullest!
Let me break it down for you:
- Objective: The main goal of the Double Trouble game is to be the first player to bring all your game pieces back to your home base.
- Game Board: The game board is designed with colorful and interconnected spaces. It’s like a mini city that you’ll navigate through! Each space represents a specific action or event that you’ll encounter during the game.
- Game Pieces: You’ll start with two game pieces, each shaped like a little person. These represent your characters in the game. Your job is to move them strategically across the board.
- Rolling the Dice: To determine how far your game pieces move, you’ll take turns rolling the dice. The numbers rolled will dictate the number of spaces you can advance. Exciting, right?
- Gameplay: Once you’ve rolled the dice, you’ll move your game pieces along the interconnected spaces. Be prepared for surprises as you encounter different events along the way! Some spaces may help you, while others may hinder your progress.
- Safety Zones: Keep an eye out for safety zones on the game board. These are special spaces that offer protection to your game pieces. If an opponent lands on a space occupied by your game piece, it’ll be sent back to your home base. But fear not! If your game piece is in a safety zone, it’s protected from such setbacks.
- Winning the Game: The race is on! The first player to successfully bring both game pieces back to their home base is the winner of the Double Trouble game! Celebrate your victory and revel in the excitement.
So, now that you know the rules, it’s time to jump into the world of Double Trouble! Grab a friend, roll the dice, and let the adventures begin. May the best player win!

Setup
The first thing we need to do is set up the gameboard. Take a look at the image below to see how the wheels should be positioned:
Important Note: When you turn any Detour Wheel in the game, make sure the star circles align with the circles on the path.
We each get two arrow playing pieces of the same color. The youngest player starts, and we take turns moving clockwise to the left.
How to Play
On Your First Turn: Put one of your playing pieces on each of the START Spaces on the gameboard. Make sure both playing pieces’ arrows point in the same direction as the arrows on their START Spaces.
Roll both dice. Choose which die roll will move each playing piece. Move one of your playing pieces along the path for the number of spaces indicated by one die, and move your other playing piece for the number of spaces indicated by the other die. Once you’ve made your moves, it’s the next player’s turn.
Note: As you go through the game, make sure to always keep your arrow pointing in the direction you’re moving. You can’t change direction unless you land on the center Star Space.
Here are some other rules for moving:
- Count and move forward the exact number on the dice.
- You can pass other players on the path.
On every turn: Follow these steps for popping and moving, based on Rule 4. Different things can happen as you make your way along the path:
If you land exactly on a star space:

To change the direction of your game, simply turn one of the Detour Wheels. It’s an important strategy because it can help you get closer to the finish line or prevent an opponent from getting there. Here’s an example:
- If you land on a Detour Wheel Star Space, make sure to align your playing piece holder with the arrow pointing in the direction you want to go.
- If you land on the Center Star Space, turn a Detour Wheel as described above. On your next turn, you can move your arrow playing piece in any direction you choose. But remember, if you pass through the center star space without landing on it, you have to continue moving in the direction your arrow playing piece points.
If you land exactly on your own playing piece:
If you land exactly on another player’s playing piece:
Did you know that one of the playing pieces in a game can be sent back to START? It’s called a POP-OFF, and it’s a game within a game.
Here’s how you play a Pop-off:
- You and your opponent each choose a dice roller to pop.
- When the game begins, both players start popping the dice rollers until one of them gets a 6.
- If you’re the player who didn’t pop the 6, you lose the POP-OFF and have to immediately return your playing piece to one of the START Spaces.
Here are some tips for winning a Pop-off:
If you want to play a POP-OFF and you haven’t moved your second playing piece yet, remember the number on the other die before you and your opponent pop-off. That’s the number of spaces you’ll move your second playing piece.
If you send an opponent back to START on your turn and the space your playing piece is on is a Star Space, don’t forget to turn a Detour Wheel.
Remember: The only spaces that can have more than one playing piece at the same time are the START Spaces.
If you land exactly on one of the finish spaces:
If you only have one playing piece left on the gameboard:
End of the Game
The first player to remove both playing pieces from the gameboard wins.
In a 2-Player Game, you can choose to control 4 playing pieces.
