Are you ready to embark on a thrilling adventure into the world of mythical creatures? If so, then you’ve come to the right place! In this game, you’ll have the opportunity to unravel the mysteries surrounding cryptids – legendary beings that have captured the imaginations of people for centuries.

Before we dive into the game, let me explain the rules. It’s important to understand how to play so that you can fully immerse yourself in this fantastical experience.

The goal of the game is to uncover the whereabouts of a hidden cryptid by analyzing clues and gathering information. You’ll need to use your critical thinking skills and deductive reasoning to solve the puzzle.

You start by selecting a region where you believe the cryptid may be hiding. Each region has its own unique set of clues that you can collect. Pay close attention to these clues as they hold valuable information that will lead you closer to your target.

Next, you’ll analyze the clues and make educated guesses about the possible location of the cryptid. You can also gather more clues by interacting with characters in the game. They might have additional information that could prove helpful in your quest.

Once you’ve gathered enough clues, it’s time to make your final prediction. Choose the region where you think the cryptid is hiding, and submit your answer. But be careful – once you make your prediction, there’s no going back!

Winning the Game

If your prediction is correct and you’ve found the cryptid, congratulations! You’ve successfully completed the game and unlocked a new level of understanding about these enigmatic creatures.

However, if your prediction is incorrect, don’t worry – you can try again! Use the knowledge you’ve gained from your previous attempt to make a more informed decision on your next try. With each playthrough, you’ll become better at deciphering the clues and honing your detective skills.

The Cryptid Game is an exciting and immersive experience that allows you to step into the shoes of a cryptid investigator. By analyzing clues, interacting with characters, and making educated guesses, you’ll deepen your knowledge and appreciation for these legendary creatures. So, are you ready to embark on this extraordinary journey? The cryptids are waiting to be discovered!

Hey there, fellow cryptozoologists! Our mission is to be the first to uncover undeniable evidence of a mysterious creature lurking somewhere in the vast wilderness of North America. Each one of us holds a unique clue, a key piece of information that will lead us directly to the creature’s habitat. We have to work together by combining our clues to locate the exact spot on the map where this elusive cryptid is living.

Now, each clue will either reveal a possible area where the creature can be found or eliminate certain areas where it cannot be found, based on the landscape and structures on the game board. As we play, we’ll ask each other questions in order to uncover the hidden meanings behind our clues. The first person to successfully decipher all the clues and locate the creature’s habitat wins the game!

What’s Inside

  • I have 6 numbered Map tiles
  • Each player has 5 sets of Player Tokens (cubes)
  • We have 4 Standing Stones (octagons) and discs in matching colors
  • I also have 4 Abandoned Shacks (triangles)
  • 5 Clue Books are available
  • There is 1 Pawn in the game
  • And finally, we have 54 Cards

The Map

The map is where we will be searching, and it’s the main focus of the game. It is made up of six numbered map tiles, which are divided into hexagonal spaces.

There are five different types of spaces: desert, forest, water, mountain, and swamp. Each tile has a number in one corner, which is used for setup.

Animal Territory

Hey there! Did you know that animals also have their own territories, just like humans do? It’s true! Let me break it down for you: when we talk about a territory, we’re referring to a specific area that belongs to a particular animal, like a bear or a cougar.

The Magic of Structures

Did you know that each space in this enchanting world can hold more than just treasures? It can also be home to a magical structure! Structures add an extra layer of wonder to this mystical realm, and they come in two different types: standing stones and abandoned shacks.

Now, let me tell you a secret – structures have their own special colors too! Just like a rainbow, they come in four different shades: white, green, blue, and black. Each color brings its own unique charm and mystery.

Picture a majestic white standing stone, standing tall and proud amidst the lush greenery. It exudes an aura of ancient wisdom, as if it holds the secrets of the universe within its ancient markings.

Or imagine stumbling upon a secluded green abandoned shack – nestled deep within the forest, moss-covered and seemingly forgotten by time. It whispers stories of forgotten tales and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.

If you’re lucky enough to come across a blue structure, prepare to be amazed! Its vibrant hue signifies an active enchantment, casting a bewitching spell on all who dare to venture close. What wonders await within this magical abode?

Now, brace yourself for the mysterious black structures – ominous and powerful. They possess an air of darkness and secrecy, shrouding their true purpose in shadows. What hidden powers do they hold? Only the bravest adventurers can uncover their secrets.

So, my friend, as you explore this captivating world, keep your eyes peeled for these extraordinary structures. They add a touch of enchantment and intrigue to your journey. Will you stumble upon a gentle white standing stone, a hidden green abandoned shack, a bewitching blue structure, or a formidable black mystery? Only time will tell.

Choosing the Right Game Pieces

When it comes to choosing the right game pieces, there are several factors to take into account. It’s important to understand the purpose and function of each piece. Are you looking for pieces that are known for their durability or their aesthetic appeal? Understanding this will help you make an informed decision.

First and foremost, you should consider the material of the game pieces. Some pieces may be made of plastic, while others are made of wood or metal. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it’s important to think about what you prioritize.

The size of the game pieces is another important factor to consider. You want your pieces to be easily distinguishable, but not too large that they take up too much space on the game board. Finding the right balance is crucial for an enjoyable gaming experience.

Additionally, the design of the game pieces can greatly impact your overall gaming experience. Do you prefer pieces that are sleek and modern, or do you enjoy a more traditional, vintage look? This is a matter of personal preference, but it can greatly affect your enjoyment of the game.

Lastly, the weight of the game pieces should be taken into consideration. Pieces that are too light may not have enough presence on the game board, while pieces that are too heavy may be cumbersome to handle. Finding the right weight for your game pieces will ensure smooth gameplay.

In conclusion, when choosing game pieces, it’s important to take into account the material, size, design, and weight. By understanding your preferences and considering these factors, you can find the perfect game pieces for an enjoyable gaming experience. So go ahead and have fun exploring different options – the right game pieces can elevate your gaming experience to a whole new level!

When we play the game, each of us has our own special cubes and discs. We use them to give information to the other players. Let me explain how it works.

First, let’s talk about the cubes. When I place a cube on the board, it means that the creature cannot live in that space. It’s like a little sign that says “No creatures allowed here!” I can only put one cube on each space, so it’s important to choose wisely.

Now, let’s move on to the discs. When I place a disc on the board, it means that the creature could be living in that space. It’s like a little sign that says “Maybe the creature is here!” I can stack multiple discs on a single space, so there might be a whole bunch of possibilities.

One really important rule is that once we put a cube or a disc on the board, we can’t take it off. We have to be careful and make sure we don’t make any mistakes. If we do, we can remove the cube or disc, but only if we made a mistake.

Clue Books and Cards

When setting up the game and assigning clues, we use a deck of cards and five clue books. The cards with a clear border are for the normal game, while the cards with a black border are used in the advanced game.

  1. First, we need to determine the number of players (3, 4, or 5).
  2. Next, we have a column of optional hints.
  3. The difficulty level is indicated by the edges of the cards.
  4. There are rows that tell each player which clue books and clues they should refer to.

When playing Cryptid, you have the option to play in normal mode or advanced mode. Normal mode is great for new players who are still getting familiar with the game and clues. It’s also more suitable for younger players.

There are only two differences in advanced mode:

  1. In advanced mode, players may receive negative clues in addition to positive clues. So, some clues may include the phrase “the habitat is not here”.
    1. All four structures of each type are used instead of three.

When we start the game, we need to choose a player to begin (it’s a good idea to pick the person who sets up the map). Each player will get a set of game pieces. Whether you use the app or the clue books, the map setup will be the same. The numbers in the left and right columns around the map picture tell you where each map tile should go, and the dots in the corners of each tile show you how to rotate it. The dot on the map picture shows you which space on the tile has the number.

The Easy Way to Start Playing

If you want to start a new game quickly, just follow the steps below:

    1. Put away the cards and clue books.
    2. Go to and follow the instructions there.

Once you have set everything up and assigned clues, you can put your device away. You won’t need to use it unless someone needs to check a clue or the group wants a hint.

How to Use the Clue Books

If you have chosen between a normal or advanced game, shuffle the cards of that type. Then, draw a single card and place it on the table. The card will tell you how to set up the map tiles and where to place the structures.

Okay, here’s what you need to do. After you finish all the steps and make sure everything is correct, turn the card over. On the other side, you’ll find the clues you should use. But first, check the leftmost column to find out how many players are needed.

Next, each player should take one of the clue books that matches the number of players in that row. The number in the clue book will be your clue for this game. Make sure to keep it hidden from the other players.

    Now Let’s Play!

The goal of the game is to figure out which space on the board is the cryptid’s habitat. To start, the first player must place a cube on a space that their clue book tells them cannot be the habitat.

When it’s my turn, I choose a spot on the board and place two of my cubes there. I can put my cubes on a spot that already has a structure, but not on a spot that already has another player’s cube. Then, it’s the next player’s turn.

When it’s your turn, you have two options. You can ask another player a question, or you can search for a spot. After you take your turn, it’s the player on your left’s turn, unless you’ve found the habitat.

Throughout the game, we all put our cubes or discs in different spots on the board. A cube means that spot can’t be the habitat based on the clues I have. A disc means that spot could be the habitat based on the clues I have. The only way to win is to search the spot that has the habitat.

    Important Principles to Follow

When playing this game, there are a few important principles to keep in mind:

    • Always be honest when placing your pieces on the map.
    • Remember, once a piece is placed, it cannot be taken off the board.
    • Avoid interacting with spaces that already have cubes. This means no questioning, searching, or placing pieces on those spaces.
    • If you make someone place a cube on your turn, you must also place one of your own on the board. This applies whether you questioned or searched.
    • If you already have one of your pieces on a space, you cannot add another piece to that same space.

Sometimes I have to tell the other players something about my clue. It’s important to be honest, but I can still give answers that mislead or reveal very little.

For instance, if I already have one cube on a mountain space, I might put another cube on a different mountain space. This way, the other players might think my clue is “the habitat is not in the mountains.”

When I want to question, I place my pawn on any space on the map and ask one of the other players, “Could the creature be here?”

I can pick any space to question, even if I know it’s not the right habitat. Sometimes, this is a clever tactic to confuse others and keep them guessing about my clue.

The player I ask must tell me if the space matches their clue and place their colored disc or cube on it to show if the creature could be there or not.

If they put a cube on the space, I have to put a cube on a different space that I know cannot be the habitat based on my clue. Then, it’s the next player’s turn.

So, here’s how you search for clues: put your pawn on a space that matches your clue, and say “I’m searching!” Then, you gotta put one of your own discs on that space. Simple, right?

If someone else already has one of their discs on that space, you can’t put yours there. But don’t worry, just find another space that fits your clue and doesn’t have anyone else’s disc. Put your disc there instead.

Once you’ve done that, it’s time to ask the other players. Go around in a circle, asking each player if the creature could be in the space you chose. They’ll put a cube or disc there if their clue matches, but only if they don’t already have one of their discs there. If they do, it’s the next player’s turn.

When I place a cube, the game pauses. No one else speaks up, and now you must place a cube on a different spot, but not the habitat mentioned in your clue. The next turn goes to the player on your left.

If nobody puts down a cube, you’ve successfully found the habitat and won the game! Take a moment to soak in the praise from the other players before examining the clues.

    About Being Honest

When it comes to playing Cryptid, honest gameplay is crucial. All players must place their cubes and discs without deceit or trickery. If you have a gaming group that struggles with honesty, this game may not be the right fit for you.

Mistakes can happen, even in this rare and intriguing game. If a player realizes they’ve placed a cube where a disc should be (or vice versa), they should admit their error to the other players right away. The player who made the mistake must immediately correct their piece on that space. They must also relocate the piece they removed to another valid space. It’s important to note that this correction can occur during any player’s turn, not just the player who made the mistake.

Imagine you’re playing a game where you have to place different objects on specific spaces. Let’s say you accidentally put a disc on a space that was meant for a cube. When you realize your mistake, what do you do? Well, you simply let everyone know about it, place a cube on the correct space, and move the disc to a different space that matches your clue. Keep in mind that you can’t place any of your pieces on a space that already has one of your pieces or any other player’s cube on it.

Now, let’s talk about getting a hint. Sometimes, you might find yourself really stuck and in need of some guidance. That’s when you can all agree to get a hint. If you’re using the cards, just check the number on your card and find the corresponding hint in the back of the rulebook. If you’re using the app, simply follow the instructions provided.

    Here are some helpful tips:

    • Before we start, make sure we all know about the different types of clues. You can find explanations in the rulebook and a list of clue types at the back of your clue books.
    • If a space already has another player’s disc, just stack yours on top so the space is still visible.
    • Using pen and paper to track other players’ information will make things easier.

When it comes to solving the game, there are different types of clues that can help me figure out the correct habitat. These clues are all about the distance between certain elements on the board. Some clues will tell me that the habitat has to be on a specific type of terrain, while others will tell me that the habitat is a certain number of spaces away from a type of terrain, structure, or animal territory.

Each element on the board is considered to be zero spaces away from itself. This means that if a clue says the habitat is within a particular distance of an element, it includes the space that element is on. So, if the clue says “within one space of a forest,” that means the habitat could be on any forest space, as well as any space that touches a forest space.

It’s important to note that every player will have different clues in each game. This means that the clue I receive will be unique to my game and will not be the same as the clues other players receive.

    Possible Clues

    1. The habitat is on one of two types of terrain.

Example: “I know where the habitat is located – either in a forest space or a swamp space. So, I will place my discs on those spaces. I also know that the habitat cannot be on any other type of terrain, so I will place cubes on spaces with different terrain types.”

Music is not just something I passively consume; it’s something I actively participate in. I love singing and dancing to my favorite songs. It’s a way for me to express myself and connect with the music on a deeper level. When I sing, I can feel the emotions in the lyrics and let them flow through me.

    2. The Habitat Is Within One Space Of A Type Of Terrain.

When it comes to habitats, they can be found nearby a specific type of terrain. This means that the habitat is located within a single space of the specified terrain type. This includes all the tiles that belong to that particular terrain.

For example: Let’s say we’re looking for a habitat that is nearby a desert. In this case, any space that is within one space of a desert tile could potentially be the habitat. However, it’s important to note that a cube should only be placed on a space that is more than one space away from a desert.

    3. The habitat is within one space of either animal territory.

The habitat is located close to the animal territories, within a single space. This means that the habitat can be found inside the animal territories themselves.

For example, if we consider the statement ‘The habitat is within one space of either animal territory,’ it means that the spaces that are near bear or cougar territories could potentially be the habitat. In such cases, the player would place discs on these spaces to indicate their significance. However, any spaces that are farther than one space away from an animal territory cannot be considered the habitat and should be marked with cubes instead.

    4. The habitat is near a certain structure.

The habitat is close to the specified type of structure, such as a standing stone or an abandoned shack. It is located within two spaces of the structure, including the space where the structure is situated. The color of the structure does not matter for this clue.

For example, if you see a standing stone nearby, the habitat could be within two spaces of that stone.

    5. Guess My Habitat

The habitat I’m looking for is located within two spaces of a specific type of animal territory. These animal territories can either be for bears or cougars. It’s important to note that only the specified type of animal territory counts for this clue.

For example: If the clue states, “The habitat is not within two spaces of bear territory,” it means that the habitat cannot be located near any bear territory within two spaces. You can identify bear territories by cubes on the board. However, if the space is not within two spaces of a bear territory, it can be the habitat and would be marked with discs instead of cubes.

    6. Finding the Habitat

I’m here to help you find the habitat you’re looking for. Now, the habitat is usually found within three spaces of a structure with a specific color. It’s important to consider that when I say “color of structure,” I mean the color of any structure nearby. The actual type of structure doesn’t matter for this clue.

Let’s look at an example to make things clearer. Imagine I tell you, “The habitat is within three spaces of a blue structure.” In this case, you would need to search for a habitat that is no more than three spaces away from any blue structure.

So, remember, when interpreting this clue, keep in mind that the habitat can be found within three spaces of a structure with the specified color. Take a look around, and if you find any structures with that color nearby, you’re on the right track!
