Highway Rules: On the Road Again
Have you ever wondered about the rules of the road when it comes to driving on the highway? I sure have. Highways can be thrilling and a bit daunting at the same time. There are many things to consider and remember. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. In this article, I’m going to break down some key highway rules that you should keep in mind. So buckle up and let’s hit the road!
Taking Turns: Merging and Exiting
One important rule to remember on the highway is how to merge and exit safely. When entering the highway, it’s crucial to match the speed of the traffic already on the road. Use your blinker to signal your intent and find a gap to merge into. It’s important to be patient and wait for the right moment. On the other hand, when it’s time to exit, make sure to signal in advance, move into the exit lane, and reduce your speed gradually. Give yourself enough time and space to safely maneuver off the highway.
Following Distance: The Two-Second Rule
When driving on the highway, maintaining a safe following distance is key. Always remember the two-second rule. Here’s how it works: pick a fixed object on the road, like a sign or a tree. When the vehicle in front of you passes that object, start counting “one thousand and one, one thousand and two.” If you reach the object before finishing the count, you’re following too closely. Adjust your speed and increase the distance to ensure you have enough time to react in case of any sudden changes.
Speed Limits: The Law of the Road
The speed limit on the highway is there for a reason: to keep everyone safe. It’s important to follow the posted speed limits and adjust your speed according to the road conditions. Remember, the highway can be a fast-paced environment, and driving too fast can increase the likelihood of accidents. So, always pay attention to the signs and be mindful of your speed for the safety of yourself and others on the road.
Stay Alert: Avoid Distractions
Driving on the highway requires your full attention. It’s crucial to stay alert and avoid distractions. Keep your focus on the road ahead and be aware of your surroundings. Put your phone away, avoid eating while driving, and save your favorite tunes for when you reach your destination. Remember, distractions can lead to delayed reactions and accidents. So, stay focused and keep yourself and others safe on the road.
Passing with Caution: Overtaking Safely
If you find yourself needing to pass another vehicle on the highway, it’s important to do so with caution. Before making your move, make sure you have enough space and time to overtake safely. Signal your intent, check your mirrors, and blind spots, and accelerate smoothly to pass the other vehicle. Once you’re done overtaking, signal again and merge back into your lane. Remember, passing should be done safely and quickly, without excessively speeding.
Know the Signs: Understanding Traffic Signals
Lastly, it’s crucial to understand and follow the various traffic signs and signals on the highway. These signs provide important information and instructions that you need to follow. Whether it’s a speed limit sign, an exit sign, or a warning sign, paying attention to these signs can make your journey safer and more enjoyable. So, take the time to familiarize yourself with the different signs and what they mean.
Driving on the highway can be an exhilarating experience, but it also requires responsibility. By following these highway rules, you can ensure a safer and more enjoyable journey. So, next time you’re on the road, remember these rules, stay alert, and enjoy your ride!

This expansion is an add-on for Can’t Stop, a board game that you need to have in order to play this expansion. Here’s what you’ll find in the box:
– 72 tiles
– 1 white marker cone
– 1 set of rules for Can’t Stop: Rollin’ Down the Highway Expansion
These extra rules will add special situations that change the way the game is played. I’ll explain the effects of the tiles in just a bit.
To set up the game, place the game board in the middle of the table. Each player should have 11 cones in their favorite color.
Next, shuffle the 72 expansion tiles and place one face down in each square on the game board. Keep the white marker cone nearby, as you’ll need it for certain tiles.
Now you’re ready to start playing, just like in the normal version of the game.
There are some changes in the game play due to the expansion. Let’s explore those next.
When I decide to stop playing voluntarily, I have a few things to do before I can move my player tokens or place them on the board. First, I need to check each white marker space in any order I choose. If a space doesn’t have a tile, I can simply place or move one of my own tokens on that space, just like in the regular game.
But if the space does have a tile, things get interesting. I need to flip the tile face up and do the action that’s written on it. If the tile is already face up, I still have to do the action. Each tile has a different effect, and you can find more information about them below.
It’s important to note that tiles are only flipped if I choose to stop voluntarily and there’s a white marker on the space with the tile. Otherwise, we just continue playing with the regular rules for moving the markers.
Special Situations
- There are 24 tiles in total, with four of each number from 1 to 6.
- What happens: If you have a white marker on this tile at the end of your turn, you get to keep it and use it later. This tile is pretty special because it gives you the chance to change a dice roll to its number once during your turn.
- A twist: You can only use one of these tiles per dice roll.
- There were seven tiles on the board, four with a single point and three with two points.
- And so it began: Once revealed, this tile would hold its place on the board until the end of the game. If a player’s white marker landed on this tile, their token would advance the indicated number of spaces. This new space would become their chosen spot to stop. If another tile lay before them, its action would take effect, whether that meant revealing its hidden side or simply activating its function.
- Firstly, the “Roundabout” consists of three tiles, each with a magnificent map etched upon its surface. These tiles are your gateway to adventure.
- Effect: Now, here’s where things get interesting. When you find yourself with a white marker resting on this wondrous tile at the end of your turn, something magical happens. You get to claim the tile and keep it as a reminder of your conquest. But wait, there’s more! At the beginning of your next turn, you must bid farewell to the tile, but fear not. For on that very turn, you possess an expansion white marker cone. With this special cone, you have the power to progress not one, not two, but a whopping four numbers forward! Prepare to leave your opponents in the dust as you forge ahead.
- There are 3 tiles that say “Lost”.
- What happens: If you end your turn with a white marker on this tile, you take the tile to remind you and discard it at the start of your next turn. You can only use 2 white markers on that turn.
- You can win a column by making extra moves from effects caused by Detour, Roundabout, or Fast Lane tiles.
- If a column is already won and you move to the top because of a Detour or Roundabout move (for example, starting from the top space of 5 and moving to the win position of 4), simply remove your piece from the column. Only one person can be the winner in each column.
After resolving all effects, if you have more than one white marker in a column, remove the least advanced white marker with no effect. If you end your turn with more than one of your colored player markers in a column, remove the least advanced marker. If you are unable to place or move a white marker after rolling the dice and are forced to stop, you lose all progress for the turn and must remove the white markers without any effect. Columns are won in the same way as the normal rules. Check the Lateral Movement Diagram below for instructions on lateral movement.
Once a player claims their third column, the game ends and that player is the winner.
Here are the descriptions and effects of each tile:

Imagine a colorful shield with a number on it – a symbol of power and opportunity.
Traffic Hazard

Imagine a black image against a vibrant yellow background, creating an eye-catching contrast.
Now, let me break it down for you. Picture this: a game board with 13 tiles of various types, each adding a unique twist to your gameplay. There are 4 Accident tiles, 2 Flat Tire tiles, 2 Out of Gas tiles, 2 Flooding tiles, 2 Traffic Light tiles, and 1 Road Work tile. These different types of tiles add an extra layer of excitement and challenge to your gaming experience.
Here’s the deal: when it’s your turn and you end up with a white marker on the black and yellow tile, things get interesting. You’ll have to roll four dice and aim to match the number of the column you’re in. If you succeed, congrats! Remove the tile and place your colored token on that spot. But if luck isn’t on your side and you can’t match the column number, the tile stays put, and you won’t be able to move your colored token forward in that column. Tough break, right?
But wait, there’s more – Detour!

A black detour sign with an arrow pointing to the right on an orange background catches your eye.
You’ll find 10 tiles in this game – 5 with a right arrow and 5 with a left arrow.
What happens when you reveal this tile? It stays on the board for the whole game. If you end your turn with a white marker on this tile, your colored token gets moved one column to the left or right, depending on the arrow’s direction. That new space becomes your voluntary ending space. If there’s a tile on that space, you perform its action – it gets revealed if it was face down.
The Fast Lane

I gazed upon the black bordered white shield, with a dark numeral set against a vibrant green backdrop. It beckoned me to uncover its secrets.
A Roadblock of Sorts

There are 7 tiles in total: 4 tiles with a value of -1, and 3 tiles with a value of -2.
Here’s what happens when you reveal this tile:
The tile stays on the board for the entire game once it’s revealed. If you end your turn with a white marker on this tile, your player token is moved back by the number shown on the tile. The space you land on after moving back is considered the new ending space. If there’s another tile on that space, you perform its action, revealing it if it’s face down.
Let’s take a look at the map:

A mysterious black “Map” text with an unfolded map icon.
Ah, the intriguing allure of a map. Just the thought of exploring new lands, uncovering hidden treasures, and deciphering ancient mysteries sends a thrill down my spine. Maps are like portals to fantastical worlds, offering endless possibilities and uncharted territories. And if you’re anything like me, then you’ll love the enigmatic power they possess.
But let’s take a moment to delve into the inner workings of a map. Understanding how it operates is key to unleashing its full potential. So, allow me to shed some light on a particular type of map tile known as the “Roundabout.”
Roundabout

The tile I’m about to describe is colored blue and features a white numeral and arrows. It’s a unique tile, and it’s called “Lost”. Let me tell you all about it.
Lost is made up of 5 tiles, and each tile can be moved in any direction by one space. It has a special effect that lasts for the entire game once it’s revealed. When a player finishes their turn with a white marker on this tile, they get to move their player marker one space in any direction. You can move either up or down the column or over to an adjacent column. The new space you end up in will be considered as your voluntary ending space. If there is another tile on that space, you’ll need to perform its action, and if it’s face down, you’ll need to reveal it first.
There’s also a variant of the Lost tile where you discard it after you use it. This adds an extra level of strategy to the game. Keep this in mind when making your decisions!
Lost

Imagine a red circle with white text that says “Lost 2” and a white bar, just like a Do Not Enter Traffic Sign.
Special Notes about Movement
If you make extra moves because of certain tile effects, like Detour, Roundabout, or Traffic Delay, you might end up moving below the bottom of a column. For example, you could go from the first space in the 7 column to the 6 column, or move down a column. If this happens, the white marker is taken off the board and you lose all progress. Look at the Lateral Movement Diagram for more information.
Remember that the board wraps around, which means the 2 column is to the right of the 12 column and the 12 column is to the left of the 2 column.
Here is the Lateral Movement Diagram to help you when you need to move from one column to another.
Trapped in a Never-Ending Cycle
Did you know that you can get stuck in a never-ending loop? It’s true! This loop can be as simple as going one step forward and then one step back, or it can be much more complicated, taking you through different paths and spaces.
If you find yourself trapped in a loop, there’s something you need to remember. When you reach a space that you’ve already been in before, you must stop moving forward. But here’s the twist – this rule only applies to that particular space. The loop, however, remains intact as a danger zone for everyone else playing the game. So even if you’re stuck in one place, others can’t relax just yet!
The key to success, my friend, is to avoid getting caught in the loop altogether. Trust me, it’s not a pleasant experience. So, keep your eyes open, strategize wisely, and stay on the lookout for any looping traps that might come your way. Don’t be fooled by their siren call – steer clear of them and ensure your journey remains smooth and uninterrupted.
