How to play Cacao Official Rules

Welcome to the Cacao Game

Let’s Explore the Rules Together

Do you love playing games? If yes, then the Cacao game is perfect for you. In this game, I will explain the rules and help you understand all the important details.

Game Setup

Firstly, you need to set up the game. Each player needs a player board and a set of worker tiles. Place the six jungle tiles in the center of the table. Shuffle the remaining tiles and create a face-down jungle stack. The market tiles and sun tiles should be placed close by.

The Goal

Now let’s talk about the goal of the game. Your aim is to score the most points by cultivating and harvesting cacao on your player board. The game is played over multiple rounds, and the player with the highest score at the end is declared the winner.

Game Rounds

During each round, you will perform different actions. You start by placing your worker tiles on the available spaces on your board. Then, you take turns, activating the actions of each worker tile one at a time. This allows you to grow, harvest, trade, and sell cacao beans.

Worker Tiles

The worker tiles are the key to your success in the game. You have different types of workers, each with their own special ability. Some workers help you grow cacao, while others assist in harvesting or trading. Make sure to use your workers strategically to maximize your chances of winning.

Jungle Tiles

The jungle tiles play an important role in the game. When you place a worker tile next to a jungle tile, you can take advantage of its special ability. The jungle tiles offer unique bonuses that can give you an edge over your opponents.

Market and Sun Tiles

The market and sun tiles are also crucial elements of the game. The market tiles allow you to trade cacao for gold or other valuable resources. On the other hand, the sun tiles give you additional scoring opportunities if you fulfill certain conditions.

End of the Game

The game ends when either the supply of jungle tiles runs out or a player fills their entire player board. At this point, players tally up their scores, taking into account their cultivated and harvested cacao, as well as any bonus points earned from market and sun tiles. The player with the highest score is declared the winner.

Now it’s Your Turn

Now that you know the rules, it’s time to gather your friends and start playing the Cacao game. Have fun exploring the jungle and cultivating delicious cacao!

When it comes to starting a game of Village Builder, the first thing you need to do is choose a color. Each player gets their own color, which is represented by the Village board, the water carrier, and the Worker tiles.

Once you have your color, place the Village board in front of you and put the water carrier on the water field with the value “-10”. This will be your starting point.

Now, let’s talk about the Worker tiles. These tiles show a sandy area with a hut in the middle, matching your color. Around the edges of the tile, there are four Workers in different arrangements.

Depending on the number of players, you may need to remove some of the Worker tiles from the game. Each player should also shuffle their remaining Worker tiles and create a facedown draw pile next to their Village board. From this pile, draw three Worker tiles to start the game.

Lastly, we have the Jungle tiles. These tiles add variety and challenge to the game. Each Jungle tile has different features and effects, so they’re definitely something to keep an eye on as you play.

Now that you know the basics of setting up the game, it’s time to start building your village and see who can create the most prosperous community! Good luck!

The Jungle tiles have a lot of green and show places where you can do different things with your workers.

I’ll give you two Jungle tiles and you should put them facing up in the middle of the table, but make sure they’re diagonal to each other. These are the start tiles: one single plantation and one market, and they both sell for 2.

The other Jungle tiles should be shuffled and put in a facedown draw pile.

Take 2 Jungle tiles from the draw pile and put them next to it, face up. These tiles will be the Jungle display. Make sure to sort the gold coins, cacao fruits, and sun tokens into their own separate supplies.

Welcome to the World of Cacao

Hey there! Let’s dive into the fascinating world of the “Fruit of the Gods”. As the leader of your tribe, it’s up to you to guide your people towards prosperity and glory by growing and trading cacao. Remember, the player with the most gold at the end of the game wins!

How to Play

Gameplay is divided into multiple rounds, which are played in a clockwise direction. The oldest player goes first and starts the game.

As I play the game, I get to add Worker and Jungle tiles to the playing area. It’s really fun!

Now, let’s talk about the rules for placing these tiles:

  • When placing a Worker tile, I can’t put it next to another Worker tile. They need their own space.
  • The same goes for Jungle tiles. They can’t be next to each other either.

By following these rules, the tiles will form a cool checkerboard pattern of Workers and Jungles. And here’s the interesting part: the starting tiles have already determined whether I have to put a Worker tile or a Jungle tile on each empty square of this pattern. The squares where Jungle tiles must be placed are called Jungle spaces.

Now, let’s talk about the game turn.

On my turn, I have to do the following steps in order:

A) Place 1 Worker tile

When you play Cacao, you have the option to select one Worker tile from your hand and position it next to one or more Jungle tiles. You can arrange the Worker tile in any way you like. #image.jpg#image.jpg

B) Fill Jungle spaces

When I place Worker tiles, something interesting can happen in the Jungle. You see, if one of the Worker tiles I place makes an empty space in the Jungle have at least 2 neighboring Worker tiles, that empty space needs to be filled. It doesn’t matter who owns the neighboring Worker tiles. Sometimes, I might have to fill multiple empty spaces in a single turn. When that happens, I get to choose which Jungle tile from the Jungle display I want to use to fill each space. It’s like picking out the perfect puzzle piece! Just remember, the Jungle display is only restocked at the end of each turn. Now, if by some rare chance I have to fill more than 2 empty spaces in one turn, I first place the 2 face-up Jungle tiles. Then, I draw more tiles from the facedown pile to fill the remaining empty spaces. But here’s the thing, if the Worker tile I placed doesn’t create an empty space that needs to be filled, or if there are no more Jungle tiles in the pile or display, then I don’t get to place any Jungle tiles. It’s all about the timing and availability. So, let’s get strategic and see what surprises the Jungle has in store for us!

C) Do the actions for the Jungle tile

When I land on a Jungle tile during my turn, I have the opportunity to take some exciting actions! These actions may help me in my quest to win the game. Let me explain what they are.

One of the actions I can take is to draw an Event card. These cards can be quite useful. They might give me special abilities or provide me with extra resources. Event cards can really give me an advantage!

Another action I can choose is to search for treasure. You never know what you might find in the jungle! I might discover some valuable artifacts or uncover hidden paths that lead to secret locations. It’s like going on a treasure hunt!

If I’m feeling brave, I can also choose to explore deeper into the jungle. This action allows me to draw a Discovery card. These cards reveal exciting new locations and possible rewards. Who knows what wonders I might stumble upon?

Lastly, when I’m on a Jungle tile, I can decide to rest and recover. Exploring the jungle can be tiring, so taking a break might be just what I need. By resting, I can regain some energy and prepare for the next leg of my adventure.

So, the Jungle tile offers me a variety of actions to choose from: drawing Event cards, searching for treasure, exploring deeper, or taking a rest. Each action has its own benefits and risks. It’s up to me to decide which one to take and how it will help me on my journey.

Remember, the Jungle tile is full of surprises and opportunities. By taking advantage of these actions, I can increase my chances of success and become the ultimate adventurer!

When a new Worker tile is placed next to a Jungle tile, all the Workers on that tile become active. Being active means that you can do the action of the adjacent Jungle tile. The different actions that Jungle tiles offer are explained in detail on the overview sheet for Jungle tiles. We separated the overview sheet from the game rules to make it easier to understand. After filling Jungle spaces during a turn, each player can perform the actions of the newly placed Jungle tiles that border their already placed Worker tiles. Here’s an important thing to remember: each worker can only be activated once during the game, either when you place the Worker tile or when you fill adjacent Jungle spaces with Jungle tiles later. You and the other players can perform the actions at the same time and independently of each other. And don’t forget, you have the choice to not perform any action if you want. You can decide the order in which you do the actions. However, you have to complete the actions for the workers on one edge of the tile before you can do the actions for workers on another edge of the tile. Oh, and by the way, if you want to exchange your gold coins for smaller denominations, you can always go to the bank.

Wrapping Up My Turn

Now that I’ve finished steps A through C, it’s time for me to draw a tile from my Player draw pile and add it to my hand.

If I’ve already used up all the tiles in my Player draw pile, then I can skip this step.

But if there are less than 2 Jungle tiles in the Jungle display, I need to replenish it by drawing tiles from the Jungle draw pile. Of course, if the draw pile is empty, then I can skip this step too.

And now, it’s the next player’s turn, starting clockwise!

The Game Comes to an End

We reach the end of the game when all players have placed their last Worker tile.

Now it’s time to score the temples, one by one. The players who come in first and second place will receive some gold. To avoid confusion, let’s flip over the scored temple tiles to their back side.

Don’t forget, for each Sun token I still have at the end of the game, I’ll earn 1 gold from the bank.

So here’s the deal: I’ve got a little game for you that involves collecting gold. It’s pretty simple, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

First things first, you’ll need to gather up your gold and take note of the value of the water field your water carrier is on. That’s an important step. Don’t forget it!

Oh, and just a heads up: those leftover cacao fruits won’t give you any gold. Sorry!

Now, let’s talk victory. The person with the most gold is the winner! Easy enough, right? But, if there happens to be a tie, we’ve got a solution for that too. The player with the most cacao fruit among the tied players takes the win. And if, by some chance, there’s still a tie after that, then everyone shares the victory. It’s a happy ending for all!
