Moving a card is a bit trickier. You can only move a card one space at a time, either horizontally or vertically. The catch is that you can only move a card if there is an open space adjacent to it. So, choose your moves wisely to outmaneuver your opponents!

First, grab a deck of Victory Cards and shuffle it up. Deal out 16 cards face-up, arranging them in a 4×4 grid. Take a look at the illustration below to see how it’s done.
To create the border of the grid, you’ll need 20 Border Cards. Place them around the grid according to the illustration. These Border Cards mark the rows (A-D), columns (1-4), and the corner regions (Spades, Clubs, Diamonds, and Hearts).
At the start of the game, each row, column, and region will have four Victory Cards.
Now, it’s time to hand out the Kicker Cards. Shuffle them up and give each player one face-down at random. Players can look at their own Kicker Cards, but they must keep them secret. Each player also gets a set of 12 Hand Cards, with the same colored back.
Make sure each player shuffles their own deck of 12 cards. Then, draw an initial hand of four cards. You’re ready to start playing!

Remember, the card you take must match either the color or the shape (or both) displayed on top of your stack. Make sure to refer to the illustration below for clarification.

Here’s what we do: the card we choose goes on top of our stack. It’s important to keep this card face-up on the table in front of us. This way, we can always see what we’ve played. It’s like building a tower of cards, one on top of the other.
After we finish our turn, we draw a new card from our deck of Hand Cards. It’s like getting a surprise gift every time! But do you know what happens when we draw the very last card from our deck? We get to shuffle all the played Hand Cards back into a fresh new deck. It’s like starting over with a clean slate.
If you can’t play a Victory Card that matches the color or shape on top of your stack, you have a couple of options. You can skip your turn and not play or draw any new Hand Cards. Or, you can play your Kicker Card (more about that below).
Kicker Card
The Kicker Card gives you another choice. Instead of playing a Hand Card, you can play your Kicker Card on top of your stack of Victory Cards, even if it doesn’t match the top card.
But here’s the thing: on your next turn, you have to match the color or symbol on your Kicker Card to pick up a Victory Card, just like before. If you play the Kicker Card on your stack of Victory Cards, it doesn’t count towards your final score.
If you don’t use your Kicker Card, you get an extra point added to your final score.
End of the Game
Once all players have passed, the round is done. Make sure to refill the board with 16 Victory Cards.
Let’s talk about how to play the game. First off, leave all the Victory Cards where they are on the board. Next, fill in all the empty spaces on the board with new Victory Cards from the deck. Simple, right?
Now, it’s time to begin. The player who passed last is up first. Keep that in mind as we dive into the game.
At some point, we might run out of Victory Cards in the deck. When that happens, the game ends. So keep an eye on those cards!
When it comes to winning, it’s all about having the most cards in your stack of Victory Cards. But here’s a twist: your Kicker Card doesn’t count if you play it on your Victory Card stack. However, if you never played it, it adds one point to your score. Interesting, isn’t it?
We’re not done yet! Each player gets a chance to take the first turn of the round. That means playing as many rounds as there are players. Fair and square, right?
