Cracking the Code: Block Buster Game Rules

Hey there! Have you ever found yourself absorbed in the exhilarating world of Block Buster? Well, I definitely have, and let me tell you, it’s a blast! But, have you ever wondered how to play this mind-boggling game? How to decode those mysterious rules? Don’t worry, my friend, I’ve got you covered. Let me break it down for you.

So, here’s the deal. In Block Buster, you’ve got a grid filled with colored blocks. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to eliminate these blocks. But hang on, it’s not as easy as it sounds. There’s a catch! You can only eliminate a block by creating a group of three or more blocks with the same color.

Now, how do you do that? Great question! All you gotta do is swap the position of two adjacent blocks by clicking on them. If, after the swap, you’ve created a group of three or more blocks with the same color, you’ve hit the jackpot! Those blocks will vanish into thin air, leaving you with a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.

But wait, there’s more! As you progress through the game, you’ll encounter special blocks that will spice things up. For example, there’s the bomb block. When you eliminate this bad boy, it will explode and destroy all the blocks around it. Talk about a game-changer!

Oh, and did I mention the time pressure? Yeah, Block Buster is as thrilling as it is challenging. You’ve got a limited amount of time to make your moves and eliminate those blocks. So, think fast, act swiftly, and embrace the thrill of the ticking clock!

Alright, now that you’ve got the basics down, it’s time to dive into the world of Block Buster. So grab your mouse, prepare your mind, and get ready for a gaming experience like no other. Are you up for the challenge? I believe in you, my friend. Let the block-busting adventure begin!

When playing this game, your objective is to surround point blocks with your own color blocks in order to earn victory points. However, be cautious, because if you have penalty tokens or leave your blocks on the board at the end of the game, you’ll receive penalties.

The game will continue until every player is unable to place their blocks on the board. Once the game is over, the player with the highest number of victory points will be declared the winner.

Getting Started

Alright, let’s get started with the game! First, place the game board right in the middle of the table. Now, everyone needs to pick their own colored blocks. If there are just two players, each person takes 14 blocks. If you have three players, each person takes 15 blocks. And if you have four players, each person takes 16 blocks.

Next, we need to set up the point blocks. It’s important to follow the pictures for this part. Make sure you place the point blocks exactly as they are described.

How to Play the Game

First, we need to decide who goes first. This is an advantage, so the starting player gets some penalty tokens. If there are three or four players, even the second player gets a penalty token.

The penalty tokens are important because they affect your score. A token with two red cubes is worth minus two points, and a token with one red cube is worth minus one point.

Number of Penalty Tokens for Each Player

It’s my turn to start the game! We take turns going clockwise around the board. When it’s your turn, you can place your first block anywhere on the board.

But remember, there’s a boundary that limits where you can place your blocks based on the number of players.

After your first block, each subsequent block has to be connected to the side of the previous block. It’s like building a puzzle!

So here’s how it works: If I manage to surround a point block with more blocks than anyone else, I’ll win that sweet point block. And get this, around that point block, there are 12 spots where I can put my blocks.

Now, picture this: If my blocks take up more of those spots than anyone else’s, I’ll be the lucky one to snag that point block when the game is over.

When I play the game, here’s what happens: the Blue player has blocks that take up 7 spaces, while the Yellow player has blocks that take up 5 spaces around a special point block.

This means that the Blue player gets the point block as a result of their positioning.

Now, let’s talk about scoring. At the end of the game, each point block is worth 3 victory points. If a player has 2 point blocks of the same shape, they get 7 victory points. And if a player manages to collect 3 point blocks of the same shape during the game, they automatically win!

But here’s the twist: sometimes a player can’t connect their blocks because other players’ blocks are in the way. It’s frustrating, I know. But don’t worry! There’s a solution. In that case, the player can use penalty tokens. These tokens allow them to place new blocks in spaces that are separate from their previous blocks.

Example 1: I can’t place my new block if my previous blocks have been blocked by the Blue player.

I can still place my block by skipping one space, like in picture1.

In this situation, I have to take a penalty token worth -2 points.

Example 2: If I choose to skip two spaces like in picture 2, I have to take two ‘-2 point’ penalty tokens.

Just like these examples, whenever anyone skips a space, they have to take a ‘-2 point’ penalty token. These tokens will be subtracted from the total victory points at the end of the game.

Note

However, the total sum of penalty tokens cannot go below -10 points, even if a player receives penalty tokens at the beginning of the game.

Also, if there are no more penalty tokens left during the game, any player who needs them cannot take them.

Scoring for 3-4 Players

When the game is over, each 1-point block you have on the board is worth 3 points. If you have 2 blocks of the same shape, you get 7 points, and if you have 3 blocks of the same shape, you get 12 points. But watch out! If you manage to get 4 blocks of the same shape, you automatically win the game!

The End of the Game

If you can’t place a block on the board, you can say “PASS” and the next player will take their turn. The game is over when no player can place any more blocks on the board. At this point, everyone counts up their victory points.

Just like before, each 1-point block you have is worth 3 victory points, and each 2-point block of the same shape is worth 7 victory points. But be careful! Deduct any minus tokens you have from your total victory points.

If you have any blocks left on the board at the end of the game, you lose points for each square in those blocks (-1 point per square). So make sure to plan your moves wisely!

The player with the most victory points is the winner of the game!

Here are Some Tips:

You can use the penalty tokens to occupy better spaces for your next move. It’s best to place the blocks with more squares before the blocks with fewer squares. If any player gets 3 point blocks with the same shape, the game ends right away. So, always be careful of what others are doing!
