The Basics
At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt a hand of seven red apple cards. These cards have different words or phrases written on them. Your goal is to match one of your cards with the green apple card that’s drawn. The green apple card contains a descriptive word. The fun part is coming up with the most creative, funny, or clever match!
Creating a Match
To create a match, pick the red apple card from your hand that you think is the best fit for the green apple card. After all players have chosen their cards, the judge (that’s me!) will review the submissions. The judge will select the red apple card that they consider the best match for the green apple card. The player who submitted that winning card gets to keep the green apple card, earning themselves a point!
Being the Judge
When it’s your turn to be the judge, it’s your chance to have some fun! You get to decide which red apple card is the winner. It’s entirely up to you, so get creative with your choices! However, remember to be fair and respect the opinions of other players. This game is all about having a good time and showcasing your unique sense of humor!
Continuing the Fun
After a winner has been chosen, the role of the judge shifts to the next player in a clockwise direction. The game continues in this manner, with players taking turns being the judge and submitting red apple cards. The first player to reach a predetermined number of points, let’s say 10, wins the game!

How to Play the Game
Hey! So, the goal of the game is to be the first player to win 4 rounds by creating the best combinations. Sound good? Let’s go!
Oh, and just a quick reminder! Don’t forget to give the Apple Boards a wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel between turns. Nobody likes smudges, right?
Game Play
If you’re feeling creative, Everybody Writes is a game made for 4-6 players. But if you’d rather play cards instead of coming up with your own answers, Play Your Best Card is a great option that works with up to 8 players.
I. Everybody Writes! (4-6 Players)
- First, we need to choose a player to act as the judge. This player will start by turning over the top card from the fill-in-the-blank deck. They should read the card out loud for everyone to hear, and then place it face up on the table.
- Now it’s time for the other players to get their creative juices flowing! Each player should grab an Apple Board and a wet-erase pen. They will need to write down their best answer for the blank space on the card. Once they finish writing, they should place their Apple Boards face down on the table.
What Should I Write?
You have complete freedom to write down any person, place, or thing that you can imagine! It doesn’t matter if it’s just a single word or a whole phrase – as long as it fills in the blank, you’re good to go!

All you have to do is make the judge laugh!
And don’t forget, the more unexpected your answer, the more the judge might love it!
Tiebreakers
If two or more players write the same winning answer, the judge will ask each player to defend their choice.
You’ll have to explain why you wrote what you did and why you deserve to win the round.
Be creative and persuasive! The judge will choose the player who makes the best case as the winner.
End of the Game
The game ends when a player collects 4 cards.
The first player to reach this milestone is the winner!
II. Let’s Play the Best Card! (4-8 Players)
- First, we need to pick someone to be the judge. This person will be in charge of the game. They will deal 4 cards, face down, to each player, including themselves.
- Now, the judge will grab an Apple Board and come up with something interesting – it could be a person, a place, or even a thing. For example, they might say “Clown” or “An angry elephant”. Once the judge has their idea, they will read it out loud and place the Apple Board face up on the table.
- Next, it’s time for the players (except the judge) to choose the card from their hand that they think best matches what the judge came up with. Once they’ve made their choice, they’ll put the card face down on the table.
- I mix the cards and turn them over one by one. I read each sentence out loud and choose the one I think is the best. If you played the chosen card, you get to keep it. Keep the cards you’ve won on the table until the game is over. Any other cards played during the round are discarded.
- Now it’s your turn to be the judge! You become the new judge and deal enough cards to bring everyone’s hand back up to 4. Then, you write a new word or phrase to start the next round.
End of the Game
The game is over when someone collects 4 cards. If you’re the first player to do so, you win!
