Welcome to the Amerigo Game Rules!
If you’re new to the world of Amerigo or just looking for a refresher, you’re in the right place. I’ve got all the information you’ll need to understand the game and start playing. So let’s dive in!
Game Overview
Amerigo is a strategy board game where players explore and colonize the New World. As a player, your goal is to score the most points by constructing buildings, collecting resources, and controlling territories.
The Game Board and Components
The game board represents a map of the New World, divided into different territories. Each territory is marked with a specific resource type and other features. You’ll also find various tokens, cubes, and cards that represent different aspects of the game.
Game Rounds and Actions
Amerigo is played over several game rounds. In each round, players take turns performing actions to move their ships, collect resources, and build structures. You’ll have to strategically plan your actions to maximize your score.
The Action Tower
The unique mechanic in Amerigo is the Action Tower. This tower contains different colored cubes that represent the actions you can take. At the start of each round, cubes are drawn from the tower and placed on the corresponding action slots.
Each player has a personal Action Tile where they can choose which actions to take. The available actions for each round depend on the cubes drawn from the tower. You’ll need to adapt your strategy based on these available actions.
Gameplay
In Amerigo, you have many choices to make each turn. You can explore territories, build structures, collect resources, or attack other players. Each decision will impact your score and overall strategy.
Exploring territories allows you to claim new lands, discover resources, and set up trade routes. Building structures grants you special abilities and earns you victory points. Collecting resources is essential for constructing buildings and earning points. And if you want to hinder your opponents, you can attack their territories and steal their resources.
Game End and Scoring
The game ends after a set number of rounds. At this point, players tally their victory points based on the buildings they’ve constructed, territories they control, and resources they’ve collected. The player with the most points is declared the winner!
Now that you have a grasp of the Amerigo game rules, it’s time to gather your friends, set up the board, and start your journey in the New World. Have fun exploring, planning, and conquering in this exciting strategic adventure!
Imagine a world full of unexplored lands, just waiting for brave adventurers like you and me to discover them. These lands are not just empty landmasses; they are treasure troves of valuable resources, ready to be claimed by those who have the wit and strategy to conquer them. But beware, my friend, for the path to glory is not easy.
As we embark on this epic journey, we must remember that success in this game hinges not only on luck but also on careful planning and clever decision-making. The dice tower, that mystical contraption, holds the power to shape our destinies. It is through its random rolls that our paths will be determined. We must pay close attention to the cubes that emerge from the tower, as they hold the key to our fortunes.
But let us not forget that we are not alone in this quest. Our fellow explorers, equally determined to claim these lands as their own, will be watching our every move. We must keep a keen eye on them, anticipating their strategies, and staying one step ahead. Only then can we hope to outsmart them and secure our place in history as the greatest discoverers of all time.
And there is yet another challenge that awaits us – the dreaded pirates. These marauders of the sea are always lurking, ready to pounce on any unsuspecting explorer who lets their guard down. We must not underestimate their cunning and be prepared to defend ourselves when they come calling. Only by remaining vigilant and avoiding their clutches can we hope to emerge victorious.
So my friend, are you ready to embark on this grand adventure? Are you willing to face the unknown, armed with nothing but your wits and your ambition? If so, then step forward and claim your destiny as a legendary discoverer. The lands await, and it’s up to you to seize them.
Components
I got a ton of cool stuff in my board game! Here’s what you’ll find in the box:
- 1 dice tower
- 49 cubes
- 1 storage board
- 24 progress tokens
- 40 commodity tokens
- 50 production tokens
- 6 pirate markers
- 16 island tiles
- 5 treasure chests
- 8 frames
- 4 time markers
- 37 neutral landscape tiles
- 1 planning token
- 1 rulebook
Now let me tell you about what each player gets:
- 1 player sheet
- 2 ships
- 3 scoring discs
- 16 village tiles
- 1 victory point disc
- 1 player order disc
- 12 trading posts
- 2 victory point tiles
Now that we have everything laid out, let’s get ready to play!
Let’s start by setting up the islands for a game with 4 players:
Step 1: Placing the Islands
So, here’s what you gotta do. Lay out the 16 island tiles, and arrange them like the picture above. But you gotta follow some rules:
- First, make sure no water zones are totally surrounded by land. We want some balance, you know?
- And if any land spaces on adjacent tiles connect, they have to connect orthogonally. None of that diagonal stuff.
Got it? Good. Now, take the frame and put it around the tiles. Almost there!
#image.jpg
When you play the game, the first thing you need to do is put the time markers in order on the printed time marker space on one of the frame tiles.
If an island has 20 or more land spaces, it’s called a “big island.” Any other island is considered a small island. Make sure to put a treasure chest on each big island.
You should place the commodity tokens on the appropriate spaces of the islands.
Take the neutral landscape tiles and place them face down next to the island area. Don’t forget to put the planning token here as well.
Setting up the player components
When we start a game, each of us gets a player sheet. We pick a color and gather our trading posts, ships, village tiles, scoring discs, victory point disc, player order disc, and victory point tiles. The first thing we do is place one scoring disc on the first space of our progress, cannon, and gold tracks. For now, we keep our trading posts, ships, victory point disc, and player order disc next to our player sheet. Our 16 village tiles are placed face down next to the neutral landscape tiles.
The storage board
When setting up the game, here’s what you need to do:
First, place the storage board next to the game board. The storage board is where you’ll keep all the extra pieces.
Next, mix the pirate markers well and place 5 of them face down on the pirate spaces on the game board. The pirate markers represent the pirates that will challenge you on your quest.
Once the pirate markers are in place, take the remaining pirate marker and return it to the game box. This marker will not be used in the current game.
Now it’s time to set up the progress area. Mix the progress tokens face down and place them next to the storage board. Then, take one progress token and place it face up on each space of the progress area. The progress tokens represent the milestones you’ll achieve as you progress in the game.
We also need to set up the production spaces. Mix the production tokens face down and place them next to the storage board. Then, take one production token and place it face up on each of the production spaces. The production tokens represent the resources you’ll collect throughout the game.
Modifications For 2 And 3 Players
When playing with 2 players, put away the production tokens for 3 and 4 players in the game box. If there are 3 players, return only the production tokens for 4 players to the game box. Fill the production spaces only up to the number of players.
Now, it’s time to place our victory point discs on space 0/50 of the victory point track. Let’s shuffle all of our player order discs and stack them randomly on the first space of the special action track. The player whose disc is on top will go first. As for the other players, they will receive one gold for each player who comes before them in player order. To keep track of this gold, simply move the disc on the gold track of your player sheet to the right the appropriate number of spaces.
Preparing The Dice Tower
With the set-up complete, we can now move on to the game play.
Game Play
When you play the game, you’ll go through 5 rounds. And each round is made up of 7 phases. In each phase, every player gets to take one action. Just one!
Now, there are 7 different actions to choose from. And each action is connected to a different color:
#image.jpg
#image.jpg
So, here’s how this game works. For the first part, I’m gonna drop all the blue cubes into the dice tower. It’s kinda like the starting point, you know? Then, any cubes that make it into the tray, those are the actions I can take.
These cubes are important because they show me what actions are available to me and how many times I can use them. Let me break it down for you:
- Whatever colors come out of the tower, that’s the actions I can choose from.
- If there’s a lot of cubes of the same color, that means I can do that action more times.
Now, when it comes to actually choosing an action, we take turns, starting with the player who’s the farthest along the special action track. We can all choose the same action if we want. It’s like a free-for-all.
If you have more than one disc stacked on a space – like at the beginning of the game – we take turns from top to bottom of the stack.
If you can’t or don’t want to use all of your action points, you can choose to forfeit any or all of them.
Once everyone has done their actions, we move all the cubes from the action space to their storage spaces to end the current phase.
To start the next phase, we drop all the cubes in the next storage space into the dice tower in clockwise order. (For the second phase, we drop the black cubes; for the third phase, we drop the red cubes; and so on).
After we drop the white cubes into the tower, the game round is over. We do intermediate scoring, and then get ready for the next round.
Note: If there are no cubes in the storage space or if no cubes fall out of the tower, you don’t have to do anything during this phase.
If cubes fall out of the tower by accident, like if someone bumps the table, leave those cubes in the tray until the next phase starts. When the next phase begins, drop those cubes into the tower along with the cubes that belong in the storage space for that phase.
Let me explain each action in detail for you:
#image.jpgThe Blue Action: Move Ships
When you choose this action for the first time, you get to place your two ships in any spaces you choose on the frame.
With each action point, you can move each of your ships to a water space that is right next to it, either up, down, left, or right.
Did you know that a frame can hold any number of ships? It’s true! You can have as many ships as you want on a frame space. But here’s the thing – each water space on an island tile can only have one ship. So, while a ship on a water space doesn’t stop other ships from passing through, it’s important to remember that only one ship can be on each water space.
Example: I have 4 AP available, so I’m gonna put my first ship on a frame tile for free and sail it 4 spaces. But I think I’ll just move 3 spaces and land on an anchor space to set up a trading post. I won’t use the remaining 1 AP for this ship. Oh, and I’ll also spend 4 AP to do this.
If your ship ends its movement on an anchor space, you can put one of your trading posts on the nearby trading post space, as long as it’s not already occupied. Once you’ve done that, you can start building on this island.
Guess what? The first person to set up a trading post on an island gets 3 victory points for discovering it.
By the way, each corner frame has three water spaces, while each small frame only has one water space. So keep that in mind.
Example: You’ve got 5 AP to spend, so you decide to move your ship to another anchor point on the same island. Then, you place another trading post there, but you don’t earn any victory points since that island has already been discovered.
Note: You can actually have multiple trading posts on each island.
#image.jpgThe Black Action: Load Cannons
Now, it’s time to move the cannon scoring disc on your player sheet. For each action point you spend, you move it one space to the right, up to a maximum of 12.
Example: I’ve got 4 AP to use, so I’ll move my cannon disc 4 spaces to the right on the cannon track.
#image.jpgMy Action: Plan
With this action, I can grab neutral landscape tiles or my own village tiles from the general supply and put them next to my player sheet.
If I want to take one of my own village tiles, no matter the size, it’ll cost me 1 AP. But, if I want to grab a neutral landscape tile, it could set me back 1 to 6 AP, depending on its size. Just so you know, I can only grab one neutral landscape tile during each game phase.
Example: I’ve got 4 AP to spend, so I decide to grab a 2-square neutral landscape tile, along with a 4-square and a 3-square village tile from the general supply.
#image.jpgThe Brown Action: Progress
When I use my action points, I make progress by moving the progress scoring disc on my player sheet one space clockwise. Every time I reach or pass a space with victory points, I need to grab a progress token from the storage board and put it on my player sheet.
By the end of the game, I score victory points equal to the highest number I reached or passed on my progress scoring disc.
Example: I have 5 AP available, so I decide to move my progress disc past the victory point space. Then, I collect one progress token from the storage board and place it on my player sheet.
#image.jpgThe Green Action: Build
With this action, you can build the neutral landscape or village tiles from your personal supply next to your player sheet face down on any island that has at least one of your own trading posts.
Placing a village tile only costs 1 AP. On the other hand, placing a neutral landscape tile can cost anywhere from 1 to 6 AP, depending on its size.
When you’re building, you must follow these rules:
When it comes to creating tiles, you need to remember one important rule: build them on land, not on water. This might seem obvious, but it’s easier said than done. Trust me, I’ve learned this lesson the hard way.
For example: When I place a part of the village tile on a water space, that means I can’t put the tile there.
I place my newly built tiles face down, then I flip them face up and give them points based on the following:
When you expand your village or landscape in the game, you’ll notice that each tile has two victory point values. However, the number of victory points you receive depends on the size of the island you’re expanding on.
Building on Small and Big Islands:
On a small island, you’ll score the smaller number of victory points indicated on the tile. But if you’re lucky enough to expand on a big island, marked by a treasure chest, you’ll earn the larger number of victory points.
But completing an island is where things get really rewarding. When you cover the last empty space on an island, you not only score points based on the value of your tiles, but you also receive 3 bonus victory points for completing the island. If the island is a big one, you also get to claim the treasure chest and place it beside your player sheet.
However, the fun doesn’t end there! If you have at least one trading post on the island you just completed, you’ll gain even more victory points. The amount you earn depends on the specific rules of the game.
Example: I’ve built my tiles on a huge island, so I get 10 victory points (VP).
Let’s explore the battlefield of online dating. It’s a tricky place with its fair share of strategies, moves, and surprises. You never know what you’re going to get, but that’s part of the excitement.
When you’re searching for a potential match, it can be overwhelming. There are so many options out there, each with their own unique qualities and charms. It’s like a treasure hunt, except the treasure is a meaningful connection.
So, what should you look for? Well, it’s all about compatibility. You want someone who shares your values, interests, and goals. That’s the foundation of a strong relationship.
But there’s more to it than that. Chemistry is important too. You want someone who lights up your world and makes you feel like you’re floating on air. It’s the spark that ignites the flame of love.
But be careful, because chemistry can be deceiving. Sometimes it’s just a temporary burst of excitement, like a fireworks display that fades away. You need something more substantial for a lasting connection.
That’s where communication comes in. It’s the glue that holds everything together. You want someone who can make you laugh, support you when you’re down, and have deep conversations late into the night.
And let’s not forget about attraction. Physical attraction is an important part of any romantic relationship. You want to feel drawn to your partner, both mentally and physically. It’s what keeps the fire burning bright.
But remember, looks aren’t everything. It’s the inside that counts. You want someone who is kind, compassionate, and understanding. Someone who sees the beauty in your soul, not just your appearance.
So, when it comes to finding the perfect match, it’s all about finding that balance. Compatibility, chemistry, communication, and attraction all play a role. It’s like a puzzle, with each piece fitting together to create something beautiful.
And if you find all of these qualities in one person, then you’ve hit the jackpot. You’ve found someone who makes your heart skip a beat and your soul soar. It’s a rare and precious thing.
So, keep searching. Keep exploring. The battlefield of online dating may be full of challenges, but it’s also full of opportunities. You never know what amazing connection is just a click away. And when you find it, hold onto it tight and never let go. love, it with all your heart and soul.
When you play this game, you need to find the row that matches the number of your trading posts on the island. Once you find it, multiply that number by the value on the topmost time marker. That will give you your victory points.
There’s another way to score victory points too. If you’re the player who places the last trading post on an island, you complete it. When this happens, you record all the victory points you scored during this action on the victory point track right away.
Example: So, let’s talk about what happened in the second game round. You know, the red player built a 2-square village tile and completed the whole island. And guess what? They scored a bunch of victory points! They got 2 VP for the built tile, 3 VP for completing the island, and a whopping 12 VP (that’s 3 times 4) for having 2 trading posts on the island. In total, they scored 17 VP! Oh, and they even claimed the treasure chest. On the other hand, the blue player scored 4 VP (just 1 times 4) for their 1 trading post on the same island.
Note: Don’t forget to move the treasure chest if you need to when building tiles on an island.
#image.jpgThe Yellow Action: Buy Production Tokens
Now, let’s move on to the yellow action. This is where you can buy production tokens. You know, those tokens that help you produce stuff! The cost of a production token is between 2 to 4 action points (AP). It’s right there on the token. When you buy a production token, you stack it on your player sheet with the commodity tokens of the same type.
Hey there! Let’s talk about a cool thing called production tokens. They’re like magical tickets that players get to start the game. Each player has a special sheet that shows all the different types of good they can make, and guess what? At the beginning of the game, they get one production token for each type of good!
For instance: I have 5 action points (AP) available, so I decide to spend 5 AP to purchase two cotton production tokens from the storage board. I place these tokens on top of my existing cotton commodity tokens on my player sheet.
Note: By the end of the game, combinations of matching commodity and production tokens will earn me victory points.
#image.jpgThe White Action: Special Action
When it’s time to use the White Action, I have two options:
Change The Player Order:
Take A Special Action:
At the end of the game, I will earn victory points based on the highest number I reach or surpass on the special action track.
Gold
If I don’t want to perform an action, I can choose to take gold instead.
So here’s how it works: I’m gonna count how many cubes are in the action space and then divide that number by three. After that, I round up the result and move my disc on the gold track by that amount. Simple, right?
Oh, but there’s more! If my total gold goes over 12, I get to score some victory points. I get 1 victory point for each gold that exceeds 12. Pretty cool, huh?
Example: So, there are 10 cubes in the action space, and the blue player grabs 4 gold. Now, he already had 9 gold, so he puts his gold disc on space 12 and immediately earns 1 VP for the last gold he collected.
Players can also get gold in these ways:
- If a player’s disc reaches the end of the cannon, progress, or special action track without using all their action points during that phase, they get 2 gold, no matter how many points they didn’t use.
- Once a big island is completed, the player gets a treasure chest. They can keep this treasure chest or get rid of it to receive 3 gold.
- Some progress tokens give players gold right away or on a regular basis.
Note: If you’ve already reached the end of one of these tracks before and you take this action again, you’ll still get 2 gold.
As a player, it’s important to understand that there are different tracks you can follow in the game. Each track offers unique benefits and rewards. One of these tracks is called the gold track. If you’re looking to earn some extra gold, this track is perfect for you.
When it comes to choosing the right track, it’s essential to take into account your goals and strategy. If you’re looking to accumulate wealth and resources, the gold track is a great choice. By following this track, you’ll have the opportunity to earn additional gold, which can be used to buy new items or upgrade your existing ones.
Understanding the mechanics of the gold track is crucial for maximizing your earnings. By advancing along this track, you’ll unlock various rewards at different milestones. These rewards can range from extra gold to special abilities and bonuses. It’s important to plan your moves carefully to ensure you reach these milestones and reap the benefits.
One of the key aspects of the gold track is the ability to receive 2 gold even if you’ve already reached the end of the track previously. This means that you can continue to earn gold by taking this action again, even if you’ve already reached the end once before. It’s a great opportunity to boost your wealth and increase your chances of success.
Overall, the gold track offers a unique and valuable opportunity to grow your wealth in the game. By strategically navigating this track, you can accumulate more gold, which will ultimately enhance your gameplay experience. So, if you’re looking for a way to increase your resources and elevate your game, the gold track is definitely worth considering.
Remember, the key to success is planning and making informed decisions. By understanding the benefits and rewards of each track, you can make the right choices to advance in the game. So, don’t hesitate to explore the different tracks available and embark on your journey to victory!
Example: Guess what? With 5 AP up for grabs, I get to pick the black action! But here’s the thing, I’m already packing 10 cannons, which means I can only add 2 more. The rest of those cannons? Well, they magically turn into 2 shiny gold coins!
Let me break down what you can do with that gold:
So, here’s the deal: those colorful cubes in the action space? They decide how many action points you have for each action in a phase. But here’s where it gets interesting – for every gold coin you use during that phase, you get an extra action point. How cool is that?
Oh, and don’t forget, my friend – the more gold you have at the end of this adventure, the more points you rack up. Each shiny gold coin is worth a whole victory point. Cha-ching!
For example: If you have 2 AP available, you can choose the brown action then spend 1 gold for an additional AP. This will allow you to move forward 3 spaces on the progress track and claim another progress token from the storage board.
The End of the Game Round and Intermediate Scoring
Once the white cubes have been dropped into the dice tower during the seventh phase, the game round comes to an end and it’s time for an intermediate scoring.
During this scoring, each player needs to fire cannons equal to the strength of their pirates. This means adding up the values of all the face-up pirate markers. To do this, you will need to move your disc on the cannon track to the left by that number of spaces.
Imagine this: You’re playing a game, and your goal is to defeat a bunch of pirates. You have cannons to help you fight, but if you run out of cannons and the pirates are still strong, you’re in trouble. You’ll take damage equal to the pirates’ strength, and your score will suffer. Ouch!
But here’s the good news: if you still have some cannons left after using the required amount, you get to keep them for the next round. So, don’t worry if you have a few extra cannons – they’ll come in handy later!
Oh, and here’s an important tip: if you would end up with negative points, don’t worry. Just leave your score marker on the 0/50 space, and you can work on improving it in the next game. It’s all part of the fun!
Alright, let’s dive in and rewrite this text while keeping the same ideas!
It’s storytime, folks! Gather ’round and let me tell you a tale of daring pirates and strategic battles!
Once upon a time, six fierce pirates set sail and launched an attack on the brave players. Now, picture this: our blue player, who only had four trusty cannons at their disposal. It was clear they needed a plan of action.
So, what did our resourceful blue player do? They quickly moved their cannon disc to position 0, sacrificing six valuable victory points in the process. It was a difficult decision, but when your survival is on the line, you must make bold moves.
Now, let’s get ready for the next round of this thrilling game:
- Hey there! Let’s uncover another pirate marker.
- Okay, now we need to refresh our progress. First, let’s put all the progress tokens on the right side of the progress area back in the game box. Then, move any progress tokens on the left side to the empty spaces on the right side. Finally, let’s add 4 new progress tokens to the left side.
- Next, we need to refill our production tokens. Take all the production tokens on the storage board and put them back in the game box. Then, let’s refill the empty spaces with new production tokens.
- It’s time to adjust the time marker. Take the top marker from the stack and put it back in the game box.
Note: Usually, fewer than 8 progress tokens will be displayed after the first round of the game.
The Game’s Conclusion
The game comes to an end after the 5th round. As per usual, players perform an intermediate scoring, followed by the final scoring. Make sure to immediately record all victory points on the victory point track. Here’s how to score:
Gold:
Goods:
Progress:
Special Actions:
The player with the most victory points emerges as the winner. If there is a tie, the player who is ahead of others in player order becomes the ultimate victor.
