On one side of the game board, there’s a grid divided into a 7×7 square shape. This side is meant for playing with 2 or 4 players. The other side of the board is specifically designed for the 3-player game. To make things even clearer, the board is split into three different levels, each color-coded.
The Spaces on the outer edge are marked in red and are known as Slum level spaces. Moving inwards to the middle ring, you’ll find spaces that are marked in blue, called Midtown level spaces. And finally, at the very center, there are spaces marked in green, known as Heights level spaces.
Player Mats
Every player will receive a player mat. These mats are essential for keeping track of various important aspects of the game.
The Player Mat: Unveiling Its Inner Workings
So, you’ve laid eyes upon the enigmatic player mat. What is it, you ask? Well, allow me to peel back its layers and reveal its secrets.
First, let me introduce you to its structure. The player mat is a strategic tool, crafted with meticulous care and intention. Its purpose? To guide you through the immersive experience of the game.
At its core lies a symphony of colors, symbols, and information. These elements work harmoniously to convey vital details and strategies, unique to each player. The player mat is a gateway, offering you a glimpse into the vast world before you.
Now, let’s explore its anatomy. It consists of various sections, each serving a specific role. One such section is the resource tracker, a precious gem that allows you to monitor and manage your resources.
Adjacent to the resource tracker, you’ll find the action selection area. Here, you can unleash your strategic prowess, choosing actions that align with your objectives. It’s a realm of endless possibilities, where every decision shapes the course of your journey.
No player mat is complete without the player boards. These personal tabs hold the key to your progress, offering glimpses into your achievements and setbacks. It’s a testament to your growth as a player, a constant reminder of your triumphs and lessons learned.
Furthermore, your player mat may include spaces for card placement, dice rolling, or other game-specific mechanisms. Each space holds a purpose, creating a symphony of mechanics that elevate your experience.
So, how does one navigate this intricate web of elements? Fear not, my friend. The rulebook, your trusted guide, holds all the answers. It unfurls a tapestry of rules and guidelines, empowering you to unleash your potential and conquer the game.
Remember, my dear companion on this grand adventure, the player mat is no mere trinket. It is a strategic ally, a gateway to realms unexplored. Embrace its allure, and let it carry you through the wonders that lie ahead.
1 – Turn Track: I keep track of how many turns you have taken during the round. Every time it’s your turn, this number goes up by one.
2 – Actions: These are the things you can do on your turn. You get to take one action per turn.
3 – Gain Influence Conditions: This is a list of conditions in the game. When you meet one of these conditions, you can move your influence marker one space ahead on your influence track.
4 – Influence Track: This shows how much influence you have. Your influence affects many aspects of the game.
5 – Gang Member Pool: This is where you place your figures. You start by putting your figures here at the beginning of the game, and you can put any new figures you gain here as well.
You can move figures from the gang member pool to your entry space on the board.
Unit Cards: Your Essential Game Arsenal
Hey there! Let’s talk about unit cards, the nifty tools that form the backbone of your game. When you embark on your adventure, you’ll find yourself equipped with a set of these bad boys in your deck. But guess what? The fun doesn’t stop there! You have the chance to amass even more unit cards as you journey through the game.
Cracking the Code: The Anatomy of a Unit Card
1 – Name: Hi there! I’m the unit’s name, nice to meet you!
2 – Type: You know, there are 2 kinds of unit cards: gang leaders and gang members.
3 – Yellow Attack Value: Now, this is where things get interesting! When I’m played by a player with a yellow gang leader, I bring an attack value to the battle. Pretty cool, huh?
4 – Red Attack Value: On the other hand, when a player with a red gang leader decides to include me in the battle, I’ll bring my attack value into the mix. I’m a force to be reckoned with!
5 – Blue Attack Value: Ahoy there, matey! If you happen to have a blue gang leader, then you’re in for a treat! I bring my own attack value into the battle and make a big splash!
6 – Green Attack Value: Hola! If you’re lucky enough to have a green gang leader, you can count on me to add my attack value to the battle. Together, we’ll conquer the world!
7 – Special Ability: Every unit has a unique power that applies specifically to itself. During your turn, you can play a card to activate its special power. If a card has the term ‘Battle’ in its description, its special ability will activate when that card is revealed during a battle.
8 – Number of Cards: This indicates how many copies of each card are included in the game.
Developments
Throughout the game, you’ll have the opportunity to place development tiles on the game board. However, keep in mind that placing a development tile doesn’t grant you control over it. To take control of a development tile, you need to have at least one figure on each space of the board that the development tile occupies. Additionally, each development tile corresponds to a development card.
Understanding a Development Tile
1 – Title: The card’s name.
2 – Fame Rating: This indicates how famous a player becomes at the end of each round they control the development.
3 – Development Symbol: This symbol corresponds to the development draft card for this tile. It helps players quickly locate the draft card to reference the development’s special ability.
4 – Cost: The number of ARCs (Alien Refugee Credits) required to place this development on the board.
5 – Level Restriction: These colors indicate where on the board this development can be placed. Red means it can be placed on red spaces. Red and blue mean it can be placed on red and/or blue spaces, and so on.
6 – Control Space: Before you can use a development tile, you have to control it.
What Makes Up a Development Card
1 – Card Name: The card has a name, which helps identify it.
2 – Development Icon: There is a symbol on the card that matches a development tile. This symbol makes it easier for players to find the correct tile.
3 – Special Ability: The card provides a special advantage when you control the associated development.
4 – Tile: The front of the development tile is shown on the card for quick reference.
5 – Renown: This number represents the amount of renown you earn at the end of each round when you control the development.
6 – Level Restriction: The colors indicate where on the board you can place this development. For example, a red level restriction means the development can only be placed on red spaces. A red and blue level restriction means it can be placed on red and/or blue spaces, and so on.
7 – Number of Developments: This is about how many copies there are of each development.
8 – Cost: This tells you how many ARCs a player needs to pay to put a copy of this development’s tile on the board.
Renown
The game board has special spaces marked with prestigious awards. At the end of every round, I gain the renown from each space I control. Sometimes, a development with its own award is built on top of a space that already has an award. In that case, I get both the development’s renown and the space’s renown if I control it.
The player to my right gives me the renown tokens and counts them out. I can choose to hide the value of these tokens by flipping them face down once I take them.
Now let’s talk about black market cards. Throughout the game, I have the opportunity to buy these cards and add them to my deck. Each card offers unique benefits to me.
Let’s take a closer look at the anatomy of a black market card.
The Basics of Black Market Cards
When it comes to black market cards, there are a few key things to know:
- Name: Each card has its own unique name.
- Type: Black market cards come in two types: permanent and regular.
- Special Ability: Some cards have unique abilities that can greatly impact gameplay. The permanent ones stay in play for the whole game.
- Number of Cards: This tells you how many copies of each card exist.
- Reward: At the end of the game, each black market card is worth 1 renown.
- Cost: The cost is the number of ARCs needed to buy the card.
YCU Coordinates Cards
Now, let’s talk about YCU Coordinates Cards, which are an important part of the Yugai Patrol Phase in each round.
Anatomy of a YCU Coordinates Card:
1 – Placement Grid: This nifty visual guide shows where on the board the YCU tokens will go.
2 – 2/4 Player Game: Check out these coordinates for where YCU tokens will be placed if there are 2 or 4 players.
3 – 3 Player Game: Take a peek at these coordinates for where YCU tokens will be placed if there are 3 players.
YCU Tokens
YCU tokens are like little city patrol units called Yugai Control Units. When one of these tokens lands on the same spot as your gang members, get ready for some combat action. And if you move onto a spot that already has a YCU token, yep, you guessed it – combat time!
Anatomy of a YCU Token
1 – Attack Value: This is how tough a YCU token is in a fight. The higher the attack value, the harder it is to beat. If there are multiple YCU tokens in one place, you add up all their attack values.
2 – Bribe Value: This is how many ARCs you can use to get rid of a YCU token without fighting it. You just pay the bribe value and put the token back in the bag.
Figures
So here’s the deal: the game gives you plastic figures in 4 different colors. And you get to choose which color you want. These figures are like little gang members on the board, but the cool thing is, they come in different races. But here’s the thing, the race doesn’t really matter when it comes to playing the game. It’s all about the color of the figure.
Now, whenever you add a new unit card to your deck, you get a new figure in your gang member pool. But don’t get confused – this figure doesn’t actually represent that specific card. It’s more like a symbol of your gang growing. The figure doesn’t have any special powers or anything like that. It’s just there to show that your gang is getting stronger.
