Hey there! Want to know more about the exciting new rules for Edge of Darkness? Well, I’ve got you covered. So, grab your favorite beverage and let’s dive right in!
The Vision Card
Let’s start with one of my favorite features: the Vision Card. This nifty little card gives you a sneak peek into the future. It shows you what the world could look like if certain actions are taken or if certain events occur.
Now, it’s time to channel your inner fortune teller! Take a look at the Vision Card and use it as a guide to make strategic decisions. Will you seize glory or avoid catastrophe? The choice is yours!
Double-edged Research
Research is a powerful tool, but it comes with risks. When you delve into the unknown, there’s always a chance of unexpected consequences. In Edge of Darkness, research is a double-edged sword.
Each time you decide to research, you’ll flip a Research Token. This token can bring amazing discoveries or unforeseen disasters. The outcome is uncertain, so choose your research projects wisely!
Risk and Reward
Edge of Darkness is all about balancing risks and rewards. Whenever you take a risky action, you have the potential to gain great rewards. But, of course, there’s always the chance of failure.
When you face difficult decisions, consider the potential rewards. Will the outcome be worth the risk? It’s up to you to weigh the options and make the best choice for your strategy.
Legacy Development
One of the most exciting aspects of Edge of Darkness is the concept of legacy development. As you play the game, you’ll have the chance to leave your mark on the world. Your actions will shape the future for both yourself and future generations.
So, make each decision count! Build a legacy that will withstand the test of time and be remembered for generations to come.
In Conclusion
There you have it – a sneak peek at some of the additional rules in Edge of Darkness. I hope you’re as excited as I am to dive into this immersive world of strategy and risk.
Remember, the future is in your hands. Will you embrace the unknown or shy away from its mysteries? The choice is yours, my friend.
When we talk about “cards” in this game, we are referring to the sleeves and everything inside them.
Every card begins with either a Citizen or a Patrician occupying the top slot of the sleeve.
Now, let’s talk about “advancements.” They are the unsleeved slips that are initially placed on the location boards or extension boards. As the game progresses, they will be added into the “cards.”
An advancement is special because it has two sides. On one side, called the “City side,” you’ll find a “contact” in either the bottom, middle, or top slot. On the other side, known as the “Blight side,” there is a “threat” occupying one of the slots.
Sleeving is when you take an available advancement (also known as a “contact”) and add it to the sleeve of a card in the right slot. You can choose to add the advancement to the top, middle, or bottom of the card, but it has to go in the corresponding empty slot.
For example, you can only add a middle advancement to a card that has an empty middle slot.
The Deck, The Street, Discarding, and Shuffling
In Edge of Darkness, we play with a shared “deck” of cards. The cards from the deck are placed in the Game board in what we call the “Street”. The card on the far right of the Street, farthest away from the deck, is the first card. The top card of the deck is considered the sixth card in the Street.
Throughout the game, we will be drawing cards, using their abilities, and then discarding them.
When I run out of cards in my deck, I can shuffle all the cards in the Discard pile and make a new deck out of them.
Alliance
While we all use the cards in our decks, each card has its own owner.
Remember: Some cards, known as Guild cards, belong to a specific player. You can tell by the Guild’s banner on the top left. Other cards, called Neutral cards, don’t belong to anyone.
During the game, certain abilities allow me to claim the allegiance of a Neutral card. When I do, I put my Guild’s Allegiance slip on the card to show that this Patrician or Citizen has sworn allegiance to my Guild. With the Allegiance slip, the card now belongs to me.
When I have a card with my Guild banner, either because it originally had it or because I received my Allegiance slip during the game, that card becomes mine. It’s like my personal card.
Extra Information
Now, let me explain the symbols you will find in Edge of Darkness.
The Chosen Ones
This flag symbolizes the esteemed Chosen Ones. If a card carries this flag, it signifies that it has pledged its loyalty to the Chosen Ones.
The Chosen Ones are a council that represents the true force behind the clergy in the kingdom of Aegis. They view the Blight as a detestable evil that can only be vanquished by those of unwavering devotion.
Therefore, only the most dedicated individuals in Aegis, regardless of their background or heritage, are invited to join the guild and partake in the righteous battle under the name of the Chosen Ones. Their emblem is a pure white chalice.
Welcome to The Carnival Of Shadows!
Hey there! This banner is all about The Carnival of Shadows Guild. Having a card with this banner means that you are part of our awesome group.
I gotta tell you, every city has its fair share of sneaky people, and Aegis is no exception. The Carnival of Shadows is a secret group that’s active in all corners of the city, from the noble houses to the darkest undergrounds.
Let me share a little secret with you: these guys are like information superheroes. They know everything that’s happening in the city and they use that knowledge to their advantage. That’s their biggest weapon, and they’re really good at it. They even know how to deal with the corrupting power of the Blight that’s spreading through the city. They’re like the Blight’s worst nightmare!
Oh, and their signature color? It’s red, baby! And their symbol is a cool mask. So, are you ready to join the Carnival of Shadows and bring some excitement to Aegis? Put on your red and get your mask ready, because we’re gonna have a blast!
The Fede Cartel
This banner is the insignia of the guild known as The Fede Cartel. When you see a card displaying this banner, it means that the cardholder has pledged their loyalty to The Fede Cartel.
The Fede Cartel is a group of merchants who operate in various major towns throughout the Realm. They view the Blight as a direct threat to their interests in Aegis, as well as to the overall economy of the Realm.
Consequently, The Fede Cartel plays a crucial role in providing financial support for the ongoing war and the expeditions into the Forsaken Lands. These efforts establish a strong foundation for the consortium to establish its dominance. This guild primarily recruits individuals from the trades and those who have a knack for exploration. Their distinctive color is purple, and their symbol is two hands clasped together in a handshake.
Welcome to the Gilded Leaves Guild!
When you see this banner, you know that the owner has pledged their loyalty to the Gilded Leaves. It’s like a secret society, and being a part of it means you’re fighting against the Blight, the dark force that threatens our lands.
The Gilded Leaves are pretty special. They’re a group of mysterious people who travel all over, giving sneaky assistance in the battle against the Blight. They’re super smart and know everything about the Forsaken Lands.
Most of the Gilded Leaves are magicians or educated folks from the towns. They have a close connection with the Vale druids, which is pretty cool. Some of them are even warriors, ready to do whatever it takes to stop the Blight. If you see someone wearing green or a leaf symbol, chances are they’re a part of this guild.
Get to Know the Gilded Leaves
Hey there! This nifty symbol right here is called the Influence Icon. When you see a positive number next to it, it means you’ll be gaining Influence tokens. How cool is that? On the flip side, you might also have to “pay” or “lose” Influence as a result of certain actions or events. So, keep an eye out for that!
Now, when it comes to contact effects, threat rewards, or location abilities, you’ll notice that the Influence Icon doesn’t always have a number before it. In those cases, it simply represents “1 Influence”. However, if you do see a number (whether it’s 0, positive, or negative) before the icon, that means it represents that specific amount of Influence. Simple, right?
Imagine this symbol as the embodiment of Goodwill. When you see a positive number next to it, that means you “gain” Goodwill tokens. These tokens can be used as a currency or can be lost as a consequence of certain actions.
Now, when you encounter this icon in the context of contact effects, threat rewards, or location abilities, you must remember that if there is no number before it, it automatically represents “1 Goodwill”. On the other hand, if there is a number before it (whether it’s 0, positive, or negative), it signifies the corresponding amount of Goodwill.
Hey there! Let’s talk about this cool icon called Coins. When you see it, it’s all about gaining or losing Coin tokens. If there’s a positive number next to it, you gain that amount of Coins. Pretty sweet, huh? Now, when there’s no number before it, it simply means you gain 1 Coin. Easy, right? But it can get a bit tricky. If there’s a number before the Coins, it means you gain or lose that amount. Could be 0, could be positive, could be negative. Just depends on the situation. So, keep an eye out for the Coins icon and get ready to earn some tokens!
Hey there! Let me tell you about this cool icon I want to talk about. It’s called Reputation. You’ll find it in the game, and it’s pretty important. Let me explain.
So, when you see the Reputation icon, it’s like a little badge of honor. It shows how good you are, how well you’re doing. If there’s a positive number next to it, that means you’re gaining Reputation. You’re building it up! That’s a good thing.
Now, sometimes you’ll come across situations where the Reputation icon doesn’t have a number in front of it. In those cases, it still represents 1 Reputation. It’s like a default value. But watch out! Sometimes the icon will have a number in front of it. That means you gain or lose that specific amount of Reputation.
So, Reputation is all about how others see you in the game. It’s a way to measure your progress and skills. The more Reputation you have, the better you’re doing.
Hope that makes sense! Remember, Reputation is important, and it can have a big impact on your game. Keep an eye out for it, and work on building it up. Good luck!
PAY ATTENTION, because this little icon right here is all about the power to fight. When you see a positive number next to it, that means you have some extra strength coming your way. Think of this power as your Battle Strength. But here’s the catch, you’ve got to use it or lose it. Any Battle Strength not used during your turn disappears into thin air.
So, how do you use Battle Strength? Simple – just unleash it when you’re hunting threats. When you do, it acts as the damage you deal to the threat. But that’s not all! Battle Strength can also come into play during interactions like threat rewards and location abilities. In those cases, if there’s no number before Battle Strength, it automatically means you have 1 Battle Strength. But if there is a number, whether it’s 0, positive, or negative, then you’ve got that exact amount of Battle Strength at your disposal.
Hey there! Let’s talk about this cool icon and what it means. It’s pretty important, so pay attention!
This icon shows two things: the Damage that the threat can dish out, and the Damage it can take before being defeated.
Now, let’s break it down a little. When you see this icon used for contact effects, threat rewards, or location abilities and it doesn’t have any number before it, that means it deals 1 Damage. Easy-peasy! But if there is a number before the icon (that number could be 0, positive, or even negative), it means it deals that specific amount of Damage.
Hey there! Let me break it down for you. This cool icon here represents Threat cubes. When you see it at the bottom left of the contact, it means you need to grab some cubes from the bag and put them in your Threat Zone on your Player board.
If you don’t see this icon, it means you don’t need to grab any cubes. Now, when it comes to contact effects, threat rewards, or location abilities, this icon without a number means you should grab “1 Threat cube”. But if it has a number (positive, negative, or even zero) before it, it means “grab that specific amount of Threat cubes”. Got it so far? Great!
Types of Locations
Alright, let’s talk about the different types of locations. Every location has one or more icons, also known as types, which tell you what special abilities and effects are linked to them.
When setting up a game of Edge of Darkness, it’s important to choose the right location types for a great playing experience. These icons are used in solo games and can also assist with Setup in multiplayer games.
Allegiance: Let’s talk about Allegiance and what it means. Allegiance is a special ability that lets you claim the loyalty of Neutral cards. This is pretty cool because there are some awesome benefits that come with it. When you have the Allegiance of a Neutral card, it’s like you have a secret code that unlocks special powers.
First of all, having Allegiance lets you use those Neutral cards to their maximum potential. They become even more powerful and can help you out in ways you never imagined. It’s like having a secret weapon up your sleeve.
But that’s not all. When you have Allegiance, you become part of an elite group. You join a special club of players who have unlocked the true potential of these cards. It’s like being part of a secret society, with all its perks and benefits.
Having Allegiance also means that you can take advantage of special effects. These effects can range from giving you extra power to helping you out in tough situations. It’s like having a guardian angel watching over you, ready to swoop in and save the day.
So, how do you get Allegiance? Well, it’s pretty simple. All you need to do is play the right cards and make the right decisions. Pay attention to the cards you have and the choices you make. Sometimes, the cards themselves will give you clues on how to claim their Allegiance. It’s like they’re whispering secrets in your ear, guiding you on your journey.
Remember, Allegiance is a powerful tool, but it’s up to you to unlock its full potential. So, keep exploring, keep playing, and keep claiming the Allegiance of those Neutral cards. You never know what amazing things might happen when you tap into their hidden powers.
- If other players want to resolve any effects on the card, they’ll have to pay you 1 Coin for each effect.
- If the card gets discarded from anywhere except your own hand, it’ll go to your Guild Hall instead of the Discard pile.
- At the end of the game, each filled slot on your cards earns you Victory Points. So, if you sleeve an advancement on this card, you’ll get 1 point.
Hunting: These abilities and effects let you go and defeat threats in the tower, earning you rewards, as long as your Battle Strength is equal to or higher than the Damage of the threat.
Defeating a threat also clears all the cubes from the associated tray in the tower. So, there’s often a good reason to take down threats that would attack you if left alone.
Hey there! Let’s talk about the train in this game. The train is super important because it lets you have more trained Agents. Having more trained Agents means you can send them out to different locations. And guess what? Trained Agents are worth Victory Points at the end of the game, so it’s definitely a good thing to have more than just the starting 4.
Battle Strength: Let me tell you about Battle Strength. It’s a super important resource that you can gather during the game. It helps you defeat threats when you’re out hunting. Pretty cool, right?
Now, defeating threats is a big deal. It earns you Reputation, and that’s a good thing. It also comes with a bunch of rewards. But the best part is, when you defeat threats, they won’t attack you anymore. So basically, Battle Strength is like your shield against all the bad stuff out there.
Coins: Do you want to know how to gain Coins during the game? Well, Coins are these special abilities and effects that you can collect. They are super useful because you can use them to pay for different effects. For example, when you play a card, you can use your Coins to activate the cool stuff that card does. But, here’s the thing – if you play someone else’s card, you need to spend your Coins to activate its effects. It’s like paying rent to use someone else’s stuff!
Now, why would you want to collect Coins instead of spending them all the time? It’s because at the end of the game, each Coin gets you a quarter of a Victory Point. And you know what that means, right? More Coins equal more Victory Points! So, sometimes it’s a good idea to save up your Coins instead of spending them right away. Plus, it’s always satisfying to see your pile of Coins grow and knowing that it’s going to boost your final score.
Protecting Yourself: These special powers and maneuvers give you the power to lessen the impact of enemy attacks.
When you effectively protect yourself from an enemy strike, you gain a reputation point. On the other hand, if you fail to defend yourself against an attack, it can cost you one or more reputation points. So, being skilled at defense is vital for your overall success.
